Excited to pick is up this weekend. Glad to see Ackbar used, excited that Dodonna is still a key Rebel leader, and I am suddenly digging the "Chancellor" Mothma title. Actually makes sense in a "government-in-exile" kinda way. The Rebellion was founded and supported by Senators, plus in light of the Prequels that title makes more sense than Chief of State. --Adm. Nick
It also ties into that comment from PL#1 about Mon Mothma being further adrift when it comes to invalidated titles.
Mothma alternatively went by President and Chief of State -- the latter is a KJA title, while the former is a bit older in provenance (referring to ANH, and used by the earliest sources for Mothma). In the NEU, she uses Chancellor. That's excellent. Especially since we know that she was "left adrift" after the Senate was disbanded, so it looks like she decided to use the opportunity to give herself an illegal promotion. Basically we have a completely unelected person claiming to be chancellor of the galaxy, rebelling against the man who -- you know -- was actually elected.
I wonder if she was elected to the position by the Rebel leadership, namely the numerous senators in its ranks. It is a rebellion, yes, but the symbolism of having the leader of the Alliance to Restore the Republic titled as chancellor is a great decision by the NEU. In reality, president hasn't been used in any official sources other than the ANH novelizstion, but that was before George decided to switch the title in the Prequels. --Adm. Nick
..now I have to go turn Rebellion on Ironically, last time I was playing I somehow managed to let the Emperor get captured right off of Coruscant
"How could this have happened, my most loyal servant?" "Uh, everything that has transpired has done so according to your design." "It has?" "Oh, yeah, totally." "Good, good..."
That's certainly the way the Saga Edition Rebellion Campaign Guide portrayed it, back in the old EU - elections every two years - and the position is automatically terminated with the fall of the Emperor.
So I haven't seen anything on this, but who is the mysterious Rodian shooter? New character? Old character? Kinda hoping a new character, and also hoping it is one that doesn't get killed off. They seem amazing.
It's a new mystery character who seems to have popped up out of the blue.....which was a pleasant surprise.
The Bantha hunt scene reminded me of Dances with wolves when the Native Americans saw the result of a white man buffalo hunt. I can imagine the sand people coming across the massacre of their sacred animal with sadness and despair.
The art was very uneven but the panel layouts were fine and the story keeps improving. A good issue but I'm looking forward to putting all the pieces together!
Suddenly, the Galactic Civil War is a true civil war...two groups vying for control of the same political entity. This is better than what it became, where the Rebels won and instead of trying to restore the Republic, created a New Republic. BTW, I don't remember Jabba saying he met the Emperor. He just calls him , "My friend the Emperor". Just strikes me as political niceties.
"We don't need a new senate. WE ARE THE SENATE." Very interested in finding out the immediate political #Aftermath of Sheev's demise.
This could backfire on the Rebels. They may want to restore the Republic but it would be seen as the government that allowed the Clone Wars to happen and gave rise to the Empire.
What makes it different than before? Are you talking about her chancellor title or something else? I don't see it any different than the EU Alliance to Restore the Republic. As far as backfiring, the late EU had Seppie elements helping the Rebels -- seeing the Empire as an extension of the Republic they fought against. Wonder if we'll see that in the canon.
