Star Wars Names. For Real.

Ok. In a world of Obi-Wans, Qui-Gons, Anakin's and Yoda's, where did Padme come up with.... Luke?

But seriously. Do you think, or know anyone in real life who is naming their children after these characters? I personally think there is a lack of good boys names out there and REALLY like the name Anakin. I am actually looking for opinions on naming children after Star Wars characters because its something I'm thinking about doing. Thanks

 

Name em' Palpatine, lol, kidding. Luke fits well even with all of the other names .

luke is a fairly common name. it isnt that rare.

 

oh i know luke is a common name. Thats what I mean. I mean in the GFFA, Luke is the weird name. And in our world, its fairly common. My question was more about the name Anakin. That is the one I was thinking of using. But I dont want my kid to be like... beat up at school for his name, you know?

 

There's a lot of strange Star Wars names, and most of them are probably going to get your child beat up. That is, unless they're the ones giving the beatings (but then you've got a stack of new problems). If you want to give a child a Star Wars name, it's best to name them after one of the actors, or an obscure character that most people won't know.

As for "Anakin" in particular, it probably would be best to not name a child that.

i actually like the name anakin, maybe it's because of SW, but i am serious thinking of name one of my kids anakin

Indeed. It sounds too much like Chew baccy (tobacco). Still, given that some people are stupid enough to name kids after corporations (I've heard of at least one named ESPN, I kid you not) or products, any Star Wars name sounds fairly normal.

 

Maybe Luke is a strange name in Star Wars world the same way Chewbacca or Anakin is strange in our world.
Considering in wich state Padme was when she had given him the name, it would be no wonder.

 

I really agree with you alot. If I was to ever have kids, I'd probably do the same exact thing... and if you want to name the dude Anakin, go for it. NEwayZ.. someone said he might get beat up on.. man, with a name like that, I don't really think so. If any have a fanitism for SW, then, they'd kno.. powerful Jedi named Anakin, this perosn is named Anakin... run... ...I mean.. there's nothing really wrong with that. i like alot of the names form the movies...

So, I'd think he get made fun of, but there are some better, more normal names out there.

I remember several years back a woman legally changed her name to Obi-Wan to win 1000 dollars in a radio contest...

 

I saw that someone said no one named their kid Chewbacca but that actually isn't the case. I know someone who named their Kid "Yoda Chewbacca".

 

Imagine calling your son Palpatine...
or... Nute Gunray!


Well those aren't as bad as callin your kid... Needa or Rune Haako.

 

I'll name my kid Sleazebaggano, after the famous Elan Sleazebaggano in AotC.

 

He's going to need a lot of intensive therapy when he's older.

 

Three persons in Sweden are named Chewbacca. Poor kids.
