GL seems to know a little bit of portuguese - and to be very fond of linguistic jokes...Check this out:

"Amidala", in portuguese, means "Tonsil"; "Panaka" is "Jerk"; and - the worst one - "Sifo-Dyas" is to our language as a name like "Goth-Fucd" would be to english - different spelling, but sounds similar to a real "nasty" (and hilarious) meaning...

That's why his name was subtitled "Zyfo-Vias" in Brazil. But it really didn't work indeed: Can you imagine the reaction of the crowd in brazilian theaters when we heard that question: "Jedi Master Syfo-Dyas ?" ?

I forgot one terrible:

Count Tyranus Dooku had his name changed in brazilian subtitles as well...just because, as it happened with Syfo-Dyas, "Tyranus Dooku" would be in english as something like "Takinfrom Theass" - and "Dooku", itself alone would mean "Fromtheass"...
