    Exactly, 7-8 out of 10

Solid but not ground breaking and has some flaws

From what I have read exploring the open world seems to be the best part of it. The people that are mainly looking for that will probably enjoy it quite a bit. Those that view exploration and lots of lore packed into it as secondary to actual gameplay and story might be a little more ho-hum about it.

Seeing the reviews bugs seem to be pretty prevalent though, like teleporting while speedering and stuff.

Definitely want to play it, definitely waiting for it to hit GP or PSPlus.

I got the gold edition on disc from GameStop preorder so I should be able to pick it up tomorrow if you get 3 days in advance but I'll ring them up first

I’m still debating whether I’ll get it right away, I definitely want to play it but next week Space Marine 2 comes out which I know I’ll be playing a lot more of. On the other hand I doubt I’ll be occupied with SM:2 long enough to see Outlaws get a price drop.

Ah who am I kidding, I’ll probably fork out the premium cost tomorrow on an impulse buy to start playing it early

It'll be a glitchy mess until it gets patched, like most releases these days. I miss the good old days when you could buy the complete game day 1 (because it was on disc/cartridge) and not have to wait around for devs to fix it.

There will already be a day one patch but otherwise yes, having a game be released janky sucks but it still happened back in the good old days.

At least now they can be patched

It feels like the overall tolerance for bugs has massively tanked in the past ten years or so, idk if it’s really reflecting trends in game development or if players just have more ways to document them. Personally it’s never been something I dwell on while playing games, I just kind of assume there will always be bugs. The last game I played on release in a fairly bad state was Cyberpunk on base Xbone but even that was a great experience for me. I played Jedi Survivor on pc at release too, there were many complaints of poor performance and I remember it even affected review scores but it worked fine on my rig.

That said it’s been awhile since I played an Ubisoft open world and this will be my first one since getting a gaming rig. It’s been able to handle everything so far including extremely demanding stuff like VR conversion mods for Cyberpunk, so if I see problems with Outlaws that will be a surprise to be sure and an unwelcome one.

This is what the 3-day "early access" really is - free bug testing for the company that people pay for.

After some deliberation I decided to go with a 1 month Ubisoft+ subscription which grants “early access” play. The main point of consideration was paying $17 or $105, seemed like a straightforward decision. And hoooo boy, am I glad I did, because, well I had no idea just how true this assessment would be:

The game runs . . . great, for the most part. I’m running on high graphics, with vsync, no ray tracing, 60fps lock, it plays wonderfully. Very smooth, no texture pop-ins, snappy responses, just a great and satisfying performance. Except that the game crashes every 10-13 min.

Like, right on the dot, as if it’s a built in feature. At first I thought it was a problem with Ubisoft Connect failing to authenticate or something, so I disabled vpn, disabled cloud synchronization, tried every setting I could think of, nothing works. And there’s a thread on the Ubisoft Discord with 100+ comments of people with the same problem. It’s awful because you’re constantly worried about when the next crash is coming and can’t just relax and play through it. I’ve gotten to Toshara, but I think I’ll probably just wait for them to fix this, whatever the bug is.

To the game itself, I like it a lot so far, wish I could really sit down and enjoy it. The production design has this post-TROS look to things, kind of like how Galaxy’s Edge looks. Warm colors, rounded architecture. The music is nice, I like the main theme which is important considering I have to hear it every damn time I restart and load the main menu.

So far I’d say Kay is not so much “scoundrel” in the Han Solo tradition, more specifically she’s a thief. The opening prologue/tutorial is reminiscent of Disney’s Aladdin with Nix being the adorable animal sidekick/best friend. Lots of databank entries to fill in the lore, an interesting little twist during Kay’s first big heist which I won’t spoil. Her voice acting is better than I thought it would be, although often the character seems to talk like someone younger, maybe 10-14y/o rather than 18-23y/o as her depiction would suggest. Anyways, it’s hard to get a firm impression because playing it with constant crashes is just so aggravating, it’s impossible to just “zone out” and enjoy. [face_waiting]

Apparently the patch can brick your save so…yay eventual GP release.

I downloaded and installed but haven't played yet because I had an urge to clear out a bunch of sidequest stuff in Horizon Forbidden West. Then I had a bit of a decision about cleaning up space on my ps5 and I realized I had God of War Ragnaok sitting on there for years I haven't played because it came with the system so deleted and then deleted Lego Marvel Superheroes 2 because now that I have Lego Skywalker Saga that's all the Lego I need, and I realized I can't bring myself to delete Horizon Forbidden West which adds to my never delete list of that, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Spider-Man 2 which is like 350 gigs of games I don't want to delete. But the game box said 100 gigs for Outlaws but it's actually only about 50 gigs (still have room for the DLCs to come, as I got the gold edition). Well I still have some more Horizon missions so maybe there will be a better patch in a few hours or tomorrow

I tried to play Fallen Order and kept getting killed all the time. Frustrating!

Is this game similar in terms of difficulty?

My confirmation has not come through yet.

I did originally pre order and then when hit went away I thought I'd hang fire. I'm a bit more flush than expected with the new job though so I decided last night that I actually would. Hopefully my confirmation will be a little later tonight

    And it's now dispatched.

Played about 40 minutes of Outlaws, first thing I did was bet and lose my last 5 credits on the Fathier races

Bought the game and played it all day today. I’m having a great time!

Currently working my way through the missions on Toshara. Incredible world building with beautiful landscapes and very Star Wars-y feeling criminal underworld buildings and cantinas.

Gameplay is decent. Hopefully gets more fun as you upgrade and unlock more weapons. The speeder bike is fun but very touchy.
The starship gameplay is really good though. Have no problems with that at all.

Sabacc is awesome. After all these years I finally know how to play.

Kay Vess is a great playable character. And I love the RPG elements to the game where you can decide which syndicates you help or betray which builds different levels of trust.

    Can’t wait to play more!

Spent the last two days or so playing as much of Outlaws as possible and I gotta say, I am very pleasantly surprised. The game is more stealth oriented than I expected, which is a good change of pace, and surprisingly punishing if you get caught out. Also really enjoying the story and open world. Lots of fun "Star-Wars-y" characters like the Enforcer Commando Droid. The dialogue is light without being too "Well that just happened". And there's tons of stuff to do without the game feeling repetitive, since most everything except the randomly generated filler jobs has narrative bookends and unique encounters.

Definitely gonna keep going and see if it wears out for me after a while, but so far so good.

Well they released a hot fix patch, but unfortunately it hasn’t helped my crash-to-desktop problem. Still crashes after about 10 min of playing, every single time. I’m worried because this problem doesn’t seem to be very widespread, the vast majority of pc players seem to be able to play without any issues, and so I’m not very confident Ubisoft will be in a hurry to resolve it. There a lot of other players I’ve found who are experiencing the same issue but altogether doesn’t seem to be a significant portion of the player base.

    Very disappointing :(
