Hey, remember when games were on physical media and had to, you know, largely be correct from release because -- again -- they were on physical media?

No because day one updates have been a thing as long as the PS3. Which came out in 2008

    Bloody kids.

I never had to patch Frogger or Chuckie Egg.

My copy has just arrived and is now installing, I should be able to dive on some point after work.

Also for me the game hasn’t been that buggy except once when I fell through the floor, but it corrected me after a few seconds

plus two crashes.FPS was pretty stable and I didn’t notice drops like I did for Survivor

Yeah so far I've had almost no issues when it comes to performance and stability. One crash (which might have been due to multiple console cycles), and a few minor graphical glitches.

With the caveat I was not trying any major do-not-get-caught sequences, tonight might be my best, sustained positive run.

Ripped off an Imperial terminal then a small outpost. Which just so happened to be the same one that the code sequencer steal task was located. It also saw an Imperial officer takedown, which I needed for an ability unlock. Also saw me wait out an alert status, it didn't trip the Wanted trigger.

Also did some treasure spots, as I could access those with ion shots. Tangled with some raiders and local wildlife, Toshara Tiger, meet grenade launcher!

Then nabbed some black market transparisteel and legged it back to the Trailblazer to do the ion accuracy upgrade.

The full screen aids play to an absurd degree. It's far easier, though not always, to see enemies, and their probable sight lines. Speeder navigation is better too, I'm going back and forth from the two cities more easily.

While on one of those trips, as I'm going along at sunset, with the breeze blowing and a river / wetlands on the left, the game decided to really show off its graphics. It was stunning.

I liked playing Sabacc even if I have no idea what I'm doing. Lost even more at the Fathier races. There was a sneak mission and I tried to run and gun my way through but the enimes kept respawning I got through by hiding but I certainly didn't stealth it through just shot a bunch, hiding, then objective

My go-to Sabacc strategy has been to “cheat” with Nix every turn in the first round to make sure I’m able to win it, use all my tokens to make sure I do and thus preserve chips to outdraw anyone who survives to second round. If an opponent does have a very strong hand in the first round I will stand through it and save tokens and hope I still have enough chips to win in round two.

In general I’ve found it’s usually a good idea to invest your resources into winning the first round, as round winners are strongly rewarded by recovering chips.

    I'm back to loathing it.

Had got some abilities unlocked, thought they might help, nope. Against poorly indicated, perfect shot, infinite spawn enemies, you still have no chance.

You take out an outpost, leave no witnesses, you still get reputation hit as the game magically sees all you do.

You get spotted? The telepathic hive mind instantly knows where you are and can teleport in as many as it needs to kill you.

Your view of the action is constantly compromised, aim assist doesn't work, the controls are too complicated to use easily in stress situations.

I was enjoying it, thought I was getting somewhere, then nope, which makes it all feel a waste. But I'm also looking at it and wondering how the hell it made it out the door.

Who tested this and said it was good? Because it isn't, it's a mess - one being heavily carried by its license and its world designers, who are the only ones coming out of this with any actual credit.

The Infinite Spawn when an alarm goes off is really terrible the game is forcing me to stealth. The hell of it is when can I just mow people down or have to stealth?

In a bid to get it back up, did it work? Kind of.

The instant everyone knows remains immensely irritating, but did find a way of, well, gaming it. Take out as many as possible without being spotted, leg it when they go alert, wait it out, return. Crude yes but it did work.

Faction rep improvement is not yet open, looks like I have to do False Flag. Vid guide first then I'll try it.

But did get a couple more abilities, including Nix's alarm sabotage, maybe that'll help.

Smoke bomb did get its first test, not sure about it right now, but do have it upgraded.

It's the odd little things that I find weird. Like needing to manually aim for the stun shot. If the timer wasn't so long it wouldn't be so bad, but I miss an aim assist that does assist me. Or when Kay is on a crate she's locked to the side, she can't move around to evade being spotted.

Still, feeling a bit better about it. And, though it may take a while, have 2 of the 6 stun shots done for the fast talk upgrade.

Oh and did a Wanted evade that was neat. Turns out that in Outlaws some of the Empire are Northern England villains, maybe Ala Mhigo got hit again.

I've been playing around with photo-mode, it's nice, not as good as Cyberpunk's (you can't pose Kay) but still plenty of shots to be found. Here's Kay and Nix going to Tosche Station to pick up some power converters:

Again forced stealth is the worst aspect of the game. I am fine with sending 50 troopers after me as long as I know there is an end

also I don’t know what the **** is wrong with some of the weirdos who are upset about Kay’s looks. I don’t know what people expect out of games. But if you want sex objects go back to hentai games on steam you weirdos.

my only problem with Kay’s looks is her hair sometimes freaks out on me and it takes me out of the game. I had the same problem with Jedi Survivor as well. Video games sometimes suck at hair

Yes her hair does frequently clip and looks more like fuzz.

Anyway I found her Kessel Runner pre order outfit so screw it she's just gonna be Han Solo from now on

Taken a long, long time but I think I've finally got to the game people are loving.

By a minor miracle or few, yes, I was using guides, text and video, but still amazing I got through it. False Flag is done!

The good - the design of the station is superb, but the bigger surprise by far was that space combat has a really good aim assist! I was expecting to find that total murder. As it was? Well, there was murder, but not mine!

Worst part of False Flag? It's a tie between all the sneaking, though nothing matches the hanger section at the start, and the final stormtrooper assault at the end. It was hard to tell when I could leg it for the ship with everything else going on.

Space combat taps the DualSense in some rather clever ways. Its similar to the Wanted system use but that little bit better.

After that, the game opens up massively. I can take various contracts, use them to boost reputation, plus flogged some intel to the Pykes. Did a timed space smuggling run and completed it with just 10 seconds left.

Tried Sabacc, er, yeah, let's not talk about that.

Did The Traitor quest which got my Pyke reputation into the good, but Crimson Dawn into poor, hence the timed smuggling mission that got it back into good!

By another miracle I pulled off an Infiltration mission that enabled me to unlock the Lightfoot ability. Also upgraded the blasters on the Trailblazer at Renpalli station.

So yeah, overall it's been the best run so far.

I’m 20 hours in now and only been to Toshara and Tatooine.
I couldn’t wait to get to Tatooine. It’s always been my favourite planet. The attention to detail is amazing in Mos Eisley.
What really blew me away is just how alive the locations feel. In Mos Eisley there are hundreds of NPC’s all doing their own thing. Working, talking, moving around, completing tasks. It actually feels like a city should. There’s a big variety of aliens and droids. If I’m being picky, I would’ve loved even more alien species.
You can walk into heaps of buildings, shops and cantinas etc, and there’s always something going on inside. I just ignore the map and walk around seeing what I stumble across.
I absolutely love walking into a bar and finding a Sabacc table. There’s no way I’m stepping away from that. Sabacc is so addicting!
Jabba’s Palace also blew me away. That was a really cool story mission with a surprisingly hectic fight at the end.

The gameplay continues to be just decent. I don’t mind the stealth aspect, and I don’t mind it getting super difficult once the alarms are triggered as it just feels more realistic that way. If you get caught at an Imperial facility, you bet there’s gonna be hundreds of stormtroopers hunting you down! I wouldn’t expect anything less.
I’ve seen people making fun of how stupid the NPC’s are in this game, but I don’t know what they are on about. I’ve never seen stormtroopers be so accurate and ruthless before! You pop your head up for even a second and your health is already gone.
The speeder is equally fun as it is annoying. I hate hitting a rock and being thrown off the speeder. Maybe I just suck at driving!

Kay Vess is awesome. Nix is adorable. One of the best Star Wars duo’s to date. Kay is super fun and likeable without being annoying. I think the actress does a brilliant job at bringing her to life.
What I like about Kay is she’s not too good or too bad at her job. She’s balanced right in the middle. She struggles to complete tasks and compromises a lot, but she still knows what she’s doing and how to get out of a tricky situation. I dunno how to explain it properly, but she reminds me a lot of Han Solo. She’s fun to play as and watch as a character.

The game is full of connections, to both the EU and (obviously) canon stories.

The first settlement you go to on Tatooine is Wayfar, which was a town originally created for Star Wars Galaxies.

There's an imperial base near Bestine named 'Fort Sunfire' which comes from the defunct Canon mobile game 'Star Wars: Commander'

Bestine is still an Imperial hub like in Legends.

The layout of the chunk of the planet you visit doesn't really match previous maps of Tatooine, but I just chalk that up to game limitations and artistic licence.

Imperial checkpoints use the same laser fence design seen in the Kenobi, meaning it's sometimes pretty easy to get around lmao, but the designers did put things in the way to stop that at some of them. There's bigger versions of the fence at imperial bases.

The Imperial troop transports are based off the Mandalorian version of the design, not the Rebels design.

One of the civilian speeder designs you can encounter is the same one Han steals in the beginning of Solo.

Some NPCs use Imperial repeater from Jedi Outcast/Academy which was reintroduced in canon with DICE Battlefront 1's Death Star DLC.

    Character spoilers
You meet the Jawa Teeka from the Kenobi series on Tatooine. You also meet Temmin "Snap" Wexley on Akiva.

There's several references to the Aftermath novels on Akiva, which makes sense as the planet was created for that series

So I heard stuff about the fail states for stealth sections being brutal. Apparently they are fixing that in a patch coming up in ten days on PS5. So I'm waiting to start it until then.

Definitely do that. The problems with stealth is it's at the start, you have very few tools and enemy capability varies drastically.

What this says to me is Massive have picked up that their tuning of it, even on the Story setting, is stopping people enjoying their work. For those who already find it easy? That's who the You-Will-Die difficulty is for.

So yeah, I'm very likely to be spending the next couple of weeks on side stuff and screwing over syndicates.

Really cool seeing everything match up location wise. Obviously some liberties were taken but it's solid.

Well I managed to somewhat alleviate the CTD problem, by switching my VPN to a French address I’ve been able have play sessions for a whole hour without crashing. But sometimes it will CTD after only 5 min, very weird. Makes me think the problem is DRM related, something is making Ubisoft Connect close the game without warning.

Anyways, I think I’m about halfway through the game, pretty much done with Tatooine unless I get called back for some reason. Also been taking more photos:
