Ok so here is a theory that just hit me. We know Ezra and company duel the three inquisitors on Lothal, however, we also see Ezra activate his blade in a resolute way while facing the new inquisitor on malachor. It's easy, Maul tells Ezra that the only way to save the rebels (or something along those lines) is to kill all the inquisitors and Ezra will kill the new one in that duel as mauls first test.

Whoever said they are on Lothal when they battle the Inquisitors?

Just imagine if they bring back Mace. (For the love of cannon Dave don‘t even think about it.)

The double blades, regarding the Inquisitors were designed to make them strong in combat because Vader deliberately keeps them weak (regarding the Force) to prevent them ever become a threat.

I just watched Legends of the Lasat and wanted to pop in here to say, that was some damn good television. I don't usually get super into Rebels episodes beyond an odd couple, but this was great. (Not to say I don't think Rebels is great, I'm just more about Clone Wars)

Super funny, but also really good at being serious. And that last bit with the collapsed star cluster or whatever. Everything about that was just...the best. Kiner! Whew.

Two critiques: the magic stuff was a little too convenient. I didn't get a clear sense of the rules of what was going on with the ashla. Not to say it wasn't in the realms of possibility with the Force, we saw some crazy stuff with the Nightsisters magics, but this made me kind of crinkle my nose. Minor qualm.

But dang I so wanted to see the actual planet in the end, and felt super slighted at the expositition dump at the end. Oh okay this was the origin world for the whole race? Gosh I'm glad you told us about it rather than us discovering it WITH the central character. Major qualm.

Still not enough to diminish the rest of the episode though. Magnificent Star Wars and storytelling in general (apart from the near-fatal sin of the wrap up).

Anyway I don't have any friends that watch this show and needed to put my thoughts down, and also gush about the stuff this episode did right. Great work!

Sent from my brain using thumbs.

Had a quick look online, Maul's saber is based on Old Republic era designs. I find this very interesting.

I'm really wondering what they will do with Maul and Ezra, I really like the idea of Ezra holding onto Sith holocron and learning from it in secret. He could occasionally visit mault for some combat training/teachings. That would make really emotional & dark moment when Kanan/crew would finally find out about this either by seeing him using holocron or someone following him on his trip (or more likely putting some tracking device on his ship and then flying to find out where he goes on his free time). It would be Kanan most likely, but with the second option (tracking device and checking out where he wen't after he comes back to ghost) it would be nice to see Sabine bump into maul giving him chance to tell her about some of her parents doings from the first-hand experience (But It would be weird if he wouldn't want to end her right after when you have in mind that big reason of his failure was Bo-Katan interference, if she ends up being her mother).

That's outdoors on Lothal, plus the imperial drops hips hovering over the Lothal temple?

It might not be Lothal if only because they use Lothal animation and designs for other off world planets.

The Temple is on Lothal. Inside looks identical to the one used in season one. As for the duel with the Inquisitors, I and others have pointed out the design is similar (if not a direct match) to Malachor V from KoTOR II.

I'll try. Kanan and Ezra go to the Lothal temple to communicate with Master Yoda. Because they can do that there. While present, they get trailed and attacked by Fifth Brother and Seventh Sister. They barely escape, as always, and feel desperate. They go talk to Ahsoka and ask her what to do. She responds with the "to defeat your enemies, you have to understand them" line. Then, all three go to Malachor to learn about the Sith. Season finale time. They are safe there at first to explore around, but soon enough three Inquisitors and Vader confront them there.

Never thought about that option because of everyone focusing on what Maul's role will be, and no one wondering if this actually is Maul. Well, there is slight possibility that it's someone else from mauls race - there were very few of them in village, not 100% sure about others on different planets, but even if they are considered last ones of their kind then so was Zeb till last few episodes. He could try to master witches magic to prolong his mother heritage, and it could be one of his folks "enhanced" with his magic, but then - why would he say "call me old master"? To trick Ezra? Slightly possible, but I think Dave and others confirmed that it's Maul.
Or else this is some of maul psycho fan who painted his face and got surgery on eyes and horns to look like his idol, but yeah I'd stick with "Old Master" just being Maul.

If the duel does take place on Malachor does that mean Revan is canon? That would be brilliant.

There s two duels, one inside the temple on malachor, and one outside the temple on lothal. It's quite easy to discern between the two from just the trailer.

Setting an episode on Malachor would taciturnly imply that Revan exists, since the whole reason for Malachor being destroyed is because of him, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
