Discussion Star Wars: Starfighter (Formerly Ryan Gosling and Sean Levy A Star Wars Story)

Yeah, I kind of agree. I think Levy’s and Chinoy’s films are standalone or “A Star Wars Story” movies while Kinberg’s trilogy is the start of a new Saga. We’ll have one more film with Daisy’s Rey trying to rebuild the Jedi Order and then a large time jump to the new Saga where she could be an older Jedi.

I just really, really want the next trilogy to be like 100 years in the future. I was saying this when Rian Johnson's trilogy was still a thing, and I'm saying it now. If we're going new, give me new.

 

Thats sounds like wont happen for a long time. Now the plan is to tell the return of the Jedi Order. With Rey and her students in standalone movies and the next saga. Originally GL has ideas for 12 episodes. So once that is told we can get 100-500 years later with adult old Grogu

Also the with rumor of Daisy Ridley having a role in this, i love to see her and Ryan Gosling have great scenes together. Maybe he can play in future movies.

I think for now most of the focus will be on The New Republic era, New Jedi Order era and Dawn of the Jedi era. Anything else is 10-15 years away.

 

I wouldn’t mind this either. I’ve just had this feeling since Filoni introduced the other galaxy in Ahsoka that they’re going to heavily rely on the old EU for inspiration and so the next Saga would be the Yuuzhan Vong invasion only with Rey as the Jedi mentor instead of Luke. And the era being titled The New Jedi Order only reinforces my feelings.

 

I wonder how species like Yuuzan Vong would be done in live action, would be star Wars Orcs? I have same question for the Rakata and Zeffo in Dawn of the Jedi era even if not in Mangold's movie. So far the main bad guys outside of Nute Gunray and General Grievous. All bad guys been human or near human aliens like Maul and Thrawn.

 

I don't really buy the idea that a new saga will be set 100 years in the future. If they want to do jedi stories about a jedi order they have hundreds of years in the old republic and high republic up for grabs. Which you know they will want to do at some point. If anything they need to keep post TROS distinctive and it loses that if you jump way ahead and just do the new jedi order stories. It also cuts off a lot of connections to other characters, which doesnt seem like something Lucasfilm likes to do.

But then when she said future she meant anything post TROS.

What is the merit in jumping 100 years ahead? To reboot a totally new story? Thats bold as hell. Im not convinced Lucasfilm are that bold or would be that comfortable. Even their sith show The Alcolyte was set close to TPM with several ties and potential recognisable characters used.

 

I think the next saga will be the final story in the Skywalker Saga. Yes i will say this New Jedi Order is part of the Skywalker saga. Ending the 12 episodes that GL wanted. It started with the Jedi Order becoming corrupt and a doom in sight and ends with a small new Jedi Order rises up again and takes over the old legacy.

You got 25 000 years of the old Jedi Order and their Endless Wars with Sith, Mandalorians, nightsisters and other factions. Grogu will be the future after they tell Rey's story and this new Jedi Order. Grogu we can visit again 100-800 years later. And he be the lod wise sage like Yoda.

 

I could see them using an alien orc-like army as basically a stand-in for stormtroopers in the new films, but I think there would still likely be a human or humanoid main villain, simply because it's easier for audiences to relate to things that are humanoid.

Lucas changed his mind in every interview about how many episodes he envisioned. Sometimes it was 12, sometimes 9. When ROTS came out, he said it was meant to be 6 episodes.

 

Lucas wouldnt have done 12 if he didnt have a story connected to the Skywalkers. Thats what the saga was for him. If there was nothing to tell past 9 then whats the point? 3 generations probably would be seen as enough. father/child/grandchild is probably enough really.

 

I don’t like a lot of the sillier aspects of the Yuuzhan Vong like being immune to the Force or space orcs. But I do like the idea of an outside force taking advantage of the decades/centuries of wars and decline of the Republic to invade the galaxy. That’s certainly analogous to some of our own history so it’d be interesting to explore.

Thats is true, but i think LFL wants to finnished the 12 idea. It ends with Rey Skywalker passing.

I don't know... they kept promoting TROS as the end of the Skywalker saga. Rey took the name, but she's not related. I think it would be odd to continue the Skywalker saga after saying it is finished, especially without any actual Skywalkers.

 

Yeah, I agree. The Skywalker Saga is over. This should be the start of a new Saga. Rey can still be in it as a mentor but it should be mostly new characters and a totally new story.

 

Or do not. There is no try.

 

The only ST character to appear in the Levy film will be D-O.

 

I hate the Yuuzhan Vong, but agreed. If you take the basic idea of an external force coming into the GFFA, while the galaxy is in the midst of disarray after decades of political upheaval and war, that could be interesting.

 

We will see, but i think Simon Kinberg mentioned something about GL had ideas for 12 episodes and his trilogy would be the final chapter.

 

There is no reason to start a new saga at all really. Disney are going to make content forever. Sagas are fairly unimportant now.

 

I mean, for branding and marketing purposes alone, it definitely makes sense to start a new saga.

 

I don't recall that (not saying you're wrong, I just don't recall it.) But in the recent Deadline interview, KK specifically said that it would be a new saga:

KENNEDY: We’re absolutely rolling fast and furiously. That has gone exceptionally well, and he’s literally going to script as we speak. We’ll see something probably around June. Simon, if you remember, he did some work with us years ago with the animated show, which was a really wonderful collaborative experience. And he then got very, very busy with X-Men and then recently became available again, and he segued into this space beautifully. We’re really excited about where that’s headed.

DEADLINE: There are spinoffs and then there is the core Star Wars story broken into trilogies. Is this a continuation of that?

KENNEDY: This is the next iteration, the new saga that moves us into the future.
