So I guess I'll make this thread, since I see nothing about it, but it seems to have canon information in it despite being only sold in France and Spain. If anyone has any facts or pictures of the characters inside that would be fantastic!
It's a reference book that was only released in Spain and France and I guess it just talks about Dark-Siders. It came out last month.
I read the Spanish edition. It's a pretty huge and very text-heavy book about dark siders written by Tricia Barr that features lots of original art by a wide range of artists, too. Basically, it's the more wordy and "evil" version of Women of the Galaxy, with a touch of historical, psychological and philosophical analysis of the role the dark side and its users played in galactic history. Information-wise, the first 2/3s largely recap the movies and TV series, but later chapters on Sidious, Snoke (not much here, don't get too excited), the Inquisitors and especially the Nightsisters also introduce new lore or canonise facts previously only stated in obscure behind the scenes interviews from the TCW era.
I know that we get some info on nightsisters. I loved the art of Darth Bane and interested in what new info and lore we might learn from this.
Tricia Barr is awesome. I love FANgirl Blog. Weird that there are only Spanish and French editions; I would assume that she would have originally written it in English, but if she's multilingual and I'm wrong someone please correct me.
I don't speak much French and Google Translate wasn't great but I think I've found it (in French) on Amazon UK. Barr is listed as a contributor and there are a couple of translators so I'd imagine it was originally in English. There's no 'Look Inside' but there are a few page pics.
Del Rey never puts out anything like this anyway. Seems like more like the kind of thing Chronicle or Dorling Kindersley would publish.
She wrote it in English, yes, which is primarily done for Lucasfilm approval purposes (no need to translate the book back and forth between publication language and approval language if you can hold off translations until approval is done, basically), but also makes it easier for an English publisher to pick it up. Let's hope it happens. However, it likely won't be a Del Rey book, so I'm not sure if Darth Internous would know a lot about it. Also, for those interested, I think I tweeted some impressions from the book using #elladooscuro on my Twitter (@germanjedi).
I'd almost be tempted by the Spanish version (if there isn't to be an English one) if I saw it on Amazon UK. I took Spanish in high school and could probably make it through with a Spanish/English dictionary. I had some French as a kid but not a lot.
I would also like to know whatever info can be gleaned possible. I'm tempted to pick up the book just for the hell of it.
It hasn't been a consistent trend in SW publishing over the decades, but it is fairly common in IP publishing for there to be titles that are only published in one or two markets. When I first heard about the title and saw material from it, I was a bit surprised it wasn't getting an English release, but not entirely taken aback. As for whether an English edition will be published, I couldn't possibly tell you, though it probably wouldn't come out from Del Rey. It could, but probably not. Beyond that, it would be inappropriate for me to speculate on behalf of any of my SW publishing compatriots.
Thanks. I'll hold out and see if we get an English edition here in the UK. (If not I might be brushing up on Spanish).
I´m very curious about this book, and I could help translating some stuff to any interested parties! but I can´t seem to find it yet...
This would be lovely, and I at least would certainly appreciate whatever time you put into doing something like this--provided you find a copy.
