The consensus is positive so far. You have a couple of negative reviews and no doubt there will be more, but the good far outweighs the bad at this point. This is no TPM mk 2. At worst you're looking at a 4 start ST09 style reaction, maybe 3 stars.

You might want to remove your foot from your mouth.

First of all, the folks in 'the line' actually checked in and out to do things like, oh, Work, shower, take care of family etc. Very few (if any) actually 'lived' at the thearter. Secondly, 'Get in Line' was a Fundraiser for the Starlight Foundation. A bunch of really good, generous people who got an unexpected, well deserved treat.

Finally, I got to hang out with, and got a Wookiee-sized bearhug from Mark Hamill. 'Luke Skywalker' trumps a former President!
    :p

Sounds like JJ knocked it out of the park for the most part from the 20 or so reactions I read. Heard great things about Daisy too.

How is 1 guys opinion general gist lol?

It's almost as if because it didn't play out how these guys wanted it to in their heads or because their guy didn't get so much airtime or died the story is 'not so great'

I'm happy with the reaction of these guys coming out of the theater, they don't all sound mindless fanboys and some said they went into it a bit worried

I'm getting the vibe that the movie keeps things very simple for the sake of newbies, and as such will probably feel very light for those steeped in Star Wars. Still, even the lightest Star Wars stories can be entertaining (see A New Hope, Season 1 The Clone Wars and Rebels). The key is that they use episodes 8 and 9 and other media to expand on The Force Awakens and give the movie added depth.

I'm hoping there is a bit more to the movie than what is seen on the surface. I'd love to see some deeper themes a la The Phantom Menace and its heavy use of symbiotic relationships and the truth of who is the Phantom Menace.

Yeah, sorry, but at present, the general vibe is that JJ did a good job, the film is fun, the FX are excellent, the performances are good, the tone is very OT, there is a stack of fan service and everyone will have their own mileage on that front and there is a lot to take onboard. The consensus may develop to match the negative minority (and Devin is not even that negative - he loves the characters and says it is fun) but as yet the general (if limited) consensus appears to be that SW is back and JJ has delivered an exciting adventure with a lot of heart. Kylo Ren seems to be getting a lot of praise as are the other leads.

    Dear god,
Please have these boards perk up a bit and become happy again so we all don't go into this film expecting to hate it/be disappointed due to what a redditor said. I think if the film gets a good rottentomatoe score it could help, but I still fear people will narrow in on the negative reviews and convince themselves that all the positive reviews are just studio plants or hyper fanboys who can't see how "bad" the film is.

Yeah people are listening to a very very few people who are negative but seemingly ignoring the plethora who are saying it's amazing...and the people saying it's amazing are respecting the embargo date.

I trust them over the people that sound disgruntled and had a story in their mind before they saw it.

I honestly believe it doesn't matter what the audience coming out of the movie says. None of that matters to Star Wars fans. I've got the general feeling that if you're going into this movie expecting to hate it, you will more than likely feel your assumptions are correct or at the very least be disappointed. If you go in expecting it to be the GREATEST MOVIE EVER MADE you will more than likely come out feeling slightly disappointed and may even be one of those people who down the road turn to bashing the movie. There never seems to be a happy medium, it's either great or awful. It's kind of depressing actually. Case in point, someone posted earlier that it was very positive and another poster responded, "only very positive? Must mean it's bad." I don't know if he/she was joking but that's the kind of response you see with Star Wars fans.

I think the people who have been saying temper your expectations, turn it down a notch hit the nail on the head.

I for one can't wait. Unfortunately I won't be seeing it til Sunday.

Agreed. I have been very cautious up to this point, but I get the feeling that Abrams has delivered! Thursday cannot come fast enough!!!

Faraci isn't a Lucas fan or a prequel guy. He loves the ot. He did however agree with Lucas on the need to just tell stories, instead of fan service.

I'd bet his review will be a positive though he will bash the story. He thought the film was okay, not great.

He also gave Dark knight a good review and not great.

I agree with him sometimes, not others. He thinks he's Pauline kale. That being said there is no reason the bash him since he will probably still say a a majority of the film is good.

To everyone saying that the people who were at the premiere praising the movie just to get another invite...you, know they could have just not posted a reaction at all. I seriously doubt JJ/Disney are searching through Twitter going "Hmm, he liked it, so he gets to come again...oh she didn't like it? Humph! She doesn't get to come to anymore premieres!"

It's because the positive comments are respecting the embargo. The two or three negative reviews are anonymous leakers who don't care about embargoes.

The main leaker on Reddit is pretty full of himself IMO. He said everyone saying anything positive is basically a shill, while he speaks the unvarnished truth. He's conveniently ignoring the fact that many positive comments are from the critics who attended, and only one professional critic has said anything negative.

I am getting the same sense too. One reason that by some point today I will stay off these boards until I see the movie on Sunday. Will probably add Facebook to the mix beginning Friday. I already feel like I'm tempting fate by coming back every so often.

I just want a good film with interesting characters that I can bastardize in dirty fan fic and art and good action (and the other stuff: solid directing, writing, acting, cinematography, you know all that technical stuff we all go talk about on Oscar forums). Is that too much to ask?

Rob's review gives me good hope.

I think the issue is this guys. You can't read these spoilers and get a FEELING out of them. You just have to see it. It's why so many people who saw it say...DON'T SPOIL IT...Don't read reviews... Just see it.

It's the experience of actually witnessing all this go down that makes it special, taking things out of context doesn't help it.

Liefeld is far, far away from being my favourite artist, but I do love to hear how much he loves the film
