Palpatine has Starkiller round up the members of the Rebellion and unite them (even though they basicaly already were after the events of RoTS) so that....the members of the Rebellion wouldn't get together and unite? he's trying to stop them from getting together, by getting them together.

Not to mention the fact that he wants Vader to get a secret apprentice, you know, giving him the power to overthrow him and all. A tad bit stupid? I think so.

There's about 8 trillion better ways to pull off what he wants to do that DON'T involve strengthening the rebellion and giving Vader his own apprentice whom he coud look at and say, "hey, you know what? I could use you..."

Plus it puts the seeds of teh Rebellion in the hands of this punk kid. Weak.

The rebels needed to unite and declare Rebellion to give the Empire reason to arresting and executing them, but yeah, the rest was stupid. Vader didn't need to train an apprentice for sixteen years to only have him kill a few Jedi (which he himself could have done) and rally the Rebels, which the Empire could hire any Force sensitive to do at any time.

How TFU should have gone, IMO: Vader would have betrayed the SA actually attempting to kill him, for some failure like letting a Jedi live. Rhett, obviously managing to survive (guided back from death by Qui-Gon Jinn or Darth Plagueis like originally planned?), would then unite a Rebel Alliance out of revenge, receive training from Kota (light side) or Plagueis (dark side), and have the choice of redeeming Maris Brood or making her your Sith apprentice. Possibly include a Sith boss like an inquisitor or another apprentice. The final duel against Darth Vader would be fighting Vader alongside Kota and Maris. Galen sacrifices himself in the same way, Maris is captured, and Kota survives and escapes.

And is any of that worse than what you see in any of the other Star Wars games? Do you think that the Jedi Knight series had a better plot? I sure hope not because if you do, I recommend you go play them again to give yourself a new perspective. Hell, while we're at it, how about the movies (particularly the prequels)? Seriously, TFU was as good as most Star Wars that we have already had. If you don't like it, that's fine, but I think you're looking for Shakespeare when you should be just excited to see some cool stuff like yanking Star Destroyers out of orbit. :p

I would say the only movie that had as moronic a plot was episode 1. The others, though they didn't always execute properly (Ep. II love scenes...) at least made some level of sense.

As for Star Wars games that I would say had a better plot. Republic Commandoes. KOTOR 1 and to a lesser extent II....a much lesser extent. I'd have to go back and play them but based purely on memory I would say Dark Forces 1+2 and Jedi Outcast. Jedi Academy was a joke. And those games in particular provide stark contrast because they ahd great gameplay. The lgihtsaber was a crazy killing machine and the guns felt good. Even if the stories in those games were weak (I don't remember) they were fun.

That Star Destroyer sequence you mentioned is one of the greatest concepts ever. Doing it however was about as fun as flossing.

I have been following this thread for a while and I keep seeing people talking about how much fun Jedi Academy is. So, I pulled it out and played it for a little while.

IMO, Jedi Academy is horrible. I thought it was horrible when I first played it and it didn't get any better with age. The controls are anything but fluid. Hack and slash are two words that fit this game to a tee. And I only HOPE that my lightsaber would connect with the target. Not to mention, having to choose my force power like a weapon. Which meant not having an opportunity to change during a lightsaber fight.

Everyone has talked about all of the flaws in TFU, however, I feel that Jedi Academy has many of the same flaws and those flaws are worse.

If someone can enlighten me on what makes Jedi Academy so amazing I would greatly appreciate it.

I'd wager quite a few republic credits that Darth Plagueis had a hand in Marek's resurrection. And while the voice overs from the trailer are of Yoda and Vader, I'm betting that they're merely representatives of the true powers competing for Starkiller's soul, Qui-Gon and Plagueis. As was mentioned above, both were highly considered for prominent roles late into the first game's development.

Firstly I've alwasy said Jedi Outcast is awesome. Not Academy. The combat in Jedi Outcast is extremely rewarding. Your lightsaber is really a lightsaber. Meaning anthing it touches is dead, immediately. Compare that to TFU, where you have to whack every enemy over, and over, and over for it to kill them. The actual Lightsaber v. Lighsaber battles weren't great, but better than the button mashing of TFU. You had to use your force powers along with your lightsaber to gain an advantage on our opponent. Kinda neat.

Also you said you can't change force powers? What are you talking about? At least on your computer the scrol wheel took care of that. I was always moving around what force power I was using. So I don't onw what you are talking about.

Plus you were able to map Force powers to any key you wanted, allowing you to access them more conveniently. My preferred configuration making Mouse 3 my Force Grip, Scroll Up my Force Push, and Scroll Down my Force Pull, effectively turning the scroll wheel into an all-purpose telekinesis button.

Force Unleashed II is an interquel/midquel, right? I mean Galen Marek died after giving his life to save the Rebels, you know.

Plus, the voice that sounded like Juno Eclipse came from someone else, I'm pretty sure. Or wait... IS that Juno?

Another thing, I wonder when the name of that terrifying rancor-hurling ape (must have been Sith alchemy) will be revealed...

Oh, and there should be a canonical dark side ending where he beats Yoda and a non-canonical light side ending where he chooses to save the galaxy.

I quite agree. I liked Jedi Outcast far more then I did Academy. The enemies in Outcast looked credible, along with a realistic reason for their existance. Also the speaking and fighting animations were quite good.

Jedi Academy I disliked quite a bit. The graphics were OK, but the facial and fighting/walking/running animations were HORRIBLE. The faces jerked like a ventriloquist dummy's, and when an NCP or whatever moved about, it just looked bad.

Yeah in Jedi Academy I chose the Plo-Koon looking character because I found the fact that he had an average Joe American kid accent to be hysterical.

Unfortunately, for me, I play mostly on console so instead of being able to link your force powers to a button, you had to scroll through a list which made it very annoying.
Secondly, I have not played Jedi Outcast only Academy so that is the only game I can refer to with any knowledge.

I do like the fact that when you hit something in JO or JA it dies, but I would rather have the knowledge when I attacked an enemy I knew I was going to at least swing in the general direction of my enemy and not leave myself open for strikes in the back. Maybe I just need to practice more????

I do appreciate these comments about JO and JA and will probably try to find a copy of JO to see for myself.

Jedi Academy is great. For PC. With Mods. As it's own game, it's ok. But the modifications are what really make it fun such as moviebattles. Since then, no other star wars game has really offered as much in modifications. Battlefront and Empire at War have a few, but they are not as completely game changing as Academy and Outcast were. With Academy modders changed just about everything you could do, from animations, maps, models, skins to entirely new singleplayer storyline mods. Jedi Academy for PC is one of the most replayable friendly games because of mods. I wish the PC version of TFU were half as good. And I really hope TFU2 has a PC version and it allows the amount of customizing that Jedi Academy and Jedi Outcast offer.

I played it briefly on my cousin's GameCube but I don't realy remember how that felt. It had lightsabers and back then thats all that mattered.

I've played it more recently on PC and the controls were good. I do know what you're talking about where the lightsaber can seem to leave you open. You do have to time it right and not just click randomly. The game is a little loose, which some may not like. TFU on the other hand felt overly tight and robotic, which I didn't like.

Different strokes for different folks, but I'd definately recommend going back and giving Outcast a try. It's well worth it.

No, The Force Unleashed II is a sequel. Notice how he hears Juno's voice ("Will I ever see you again?"), and she didn't say that line until the ending, where they kiss. Plus, Yoda. That right there also screams that this takes place AFTER TFU. Yoda was nowhere to be found in the first game.

A possible theory: Galen Marek is trapped in limbo between life or death, or as we see in the trailer, the arena. The voices of Yoda and Vader are conflicting as to whether when he comes back to life, would he continue as a redeemed Jedi or return to his old Sith ways? Then comes in Juno's voice, which I'm assuming predominates the good in him to kill the ape/rancor beast with his dual BLUE lightsabers.

So I was thinking today...one of the biggest issues for TFUII is: how can Starkiller come back from the dead, especially after he 'died' at the Emperor's feet at the end of the first one. I came up with this theory that I think meshes great and works well:

Starkiller is dead, his spirit drifts to be "One with the Force", as Rahm Kota says at the end of the first game, lightside canon ending. Or so it would seem. Say that Palpatine's old master, Plagueis (one of the original concepts for the first TFU) still in fact exists as a Sith Spirit. Plagueis, as we know, caused the Chosen One's birth...but what if he did it again, if he managed to cling to existence as a Sith Spirit? What if HE caused Starkiller to be born so insanely powerful with the Force, while he lurked as a powerless ghost - all to bring about vengeance upon his treacherous pupil, Palpatine? Of course, he could resurrect Starkiller again to finish the job (TFU sequel). I think it would be pretty cool if that was Palpatine's ultimate mistake - that he schemed so very much and took over the galaxy, everything coming together perfectly for ultimate power - but he actually screwed up on square one, when he murdered his master, not knowing that Plagueis could in fact cling to a metaphysical form after death. It would be quite sweet if Bane's original Rule of Two proved to be the Sith's absolute failure - the betrayal of Plagueis by Palpatine eventually causing Starkiller and the birth of the Rebellion, which would cause Luke to redeem his father Vader, who would complete the destruction of the Sith's 1000 year old doctrine. Combined with the movies, the TFU series would actually have a point: to demonstrate how when all is said and done, the Sith way will always end in self-destruction, and that Palpatine in fact was the greatest failure of any Sith this whole time, from beginning to end, when he betrayed his master, to when he sent Vader over the edge by torturing Luke.

Sounds like a better story then we are going to get....

I just want StarKiller to meet up with "The Emperor's Hand" - Mara Jade.

    Then Mara kills him.

    The end.

tfu was a fairly rewarding game on the wii while horribly sacrificing graphics. if you could have had wii controls with the unique technologies at work in the next gen consoles it would have been a good game. i have no desire to play tfu 2, unlessit is vastly improved. this is wrecking canon all over the place, i would feel better if it was an infinty level canon. i would like to see more rpg elements as well and less scripting. i want to see new generation kotrs being made and new generation outcast and dark forces being made. lets get with it lucasarts, or contract out some help

I just came up with this possible solution to Rhett's resurrection, which would explain quite nicely the matter of his first death after being lightsaber impaled, thrown around like a ragdoll in and out of the Executor and his sucking vaccum: Rhett's insanely powerful in the Force due to an obscenely high concentration of midichlorians in his blood, 10 times higher than Anakin's to put it like that. So much so that the midichlorians can create something akin to Wolverine's mutant healing factor if he takes an enormous amount of trauma or mortal injuries. Vader must have been aware of this fact, so much so that he gambled on it that he could effectively "kill" Rhett in front of his master and then retrieve him afterwards. After the final battle on the Death Star (lightside ending) Rhett's not dead, he's just in a deep healing coma, though his metabolism and presence in the Force are probably so dim that, for all intent and purposes, he's though dead by everyone. Everyone except Vader, who perhaps by some inexcrutable sense of respect for his "apprentice" manages to retrieve his body, hoping that whatever the boy has that managed to save him from death before will do so again. And when in effect that happens, the story of TFU 2 begins...

Yeah, it's kinda lame I know, but somehow I doubt we'll get a better explanation out of Blackman or whoever writes up the sequel.

That would be a lot to take in in only a few minutes.

"Marek has an incredibly high midichlorian count, which allowed his body to heal at inordinate levels. When my Master killed him aboard the Death Star, he was not really dead. His body healed at incredible speed, but his Force prescence was diminished enough to make my Master think he was dead. I secretly knew this, and wagered my apprentice's life for the chance to finally truly hide you from him."

    That's a mouthful.

All we need now is that beautiful yellow lettering rolling up the screen with the Star Wars music. The writing team just needs to read these boards. They will have no work left.

I actually really like this idea.

It also might allow for at least some semi-amnesia...a Rhett who's basically forgotten most of his training, but still just as powerful, means being able to play with more "unleashed" and unnatural powers.

Maybe any explanation for Rhett's first death was left out so it could be a big revelation for TFU II?
