I just read the gamespot article in its entirety, and while the setting/;lot is all right, the thing as a whole leaves me with a great big meh. [face_plain]

I am willing to be surprised, but there's no way I'll be playing this, which is sad, because KotOR is one of the few game franchises that I actually have any major interest in playing.

ETA: Earthknight - no, the gamespot article confirms that one of the big reasons EA bought Bioware was because of TOR's being in development.

Also: why Utapau? I mean, seriously, can we see "movie places just for the heck of it"? Does LA really not understand the lessons of Galaxies, namely that tossing in the movie planets or continuity references doesn't automatically make it better? Bioware may handle the continuity stuff better than Sony has, and I certainly hope so, but it doesn't exactly make me all warm and fuzzy.

Also: note the comments on the upcoming additions to Galaxies. Just in case you weren't convinced that LA is supremely competent at understanding fan desires:
We're focused on a chapter release around Hoth, where we're re-creating the battle at Echo Base. We'll allow players to get in groups and jump in and just participate in a very high-quality battle.

See I wanted to continue Revan's story. I wanted to see Bastila, Carth, and the gang again. But we're not and we're probably never see these characters again necause the book writers don't want to take on the project and now the game developers have abandoned that time period. This is just awful news. Just as bad as the rumor that Battlefront 3 will be a wii exclusive.

 How does 3960 BBY --> 3800 BBY???

Edit: seems to have been a misunderstanding. Writer in the interview said it's actually at 3600 BBY. Which makes more sense.

I find that rather intriguing. Group content... with AI companions, as if it were a normal solo RPG? That's novel. I admittedly can see a number of people who would ONLY want to solo getting a bit annoyed that they'd be paying a subscription fee to play a solo game... but it's still novel, as even in WoW I'm not always in a social gaming mood.

Oh man this doesn't sound like it will be good.

Well I guess we can infer that Revan failed in taking down the "True Sith" threat, unless he just delayed it by 300 years.

I suppose to some extent it may depend what the game story actually is.

If it's like WAR, then its Jedi v Sith, faction v faction, and that's that.

If its like WoW, then it could be Alliance v Horde v Burning Legion v Scourge v Etc.

With the WoW model, there'd be the potential for the True Sith to be a mutual bad guy, the masterminds behind the new Sith perhaps, who could become the end game bad guys for both the Jedi and Sith factions.

I don't think that will be the case, but just saying that the True Sith may not necessarily have to be this same Sith Empire.

Watch. Some of the things they claim will be in the game won't be in the final product. Including that AI companion stuff.

I haven't had a chance to give the site anything more than a cursory glance, but  × 1000.

Dammit, not Dathomir. And I hear they'll have the witches too. [face_plain] [face_plain] [face_plain]

Utapau, however... if they tie it in with the Power of the Jedi Sourcebook's offhand reference to it being one of the birthplaces of the Jedi Order, it could be good. More likely, though, they'll probably focus on Darth Desolous...

I dunno... the IGN article makes it sound like companions will be a central element of the game, as there seems to be a lot of stuff about what basically sounds like an influence system, which I presume would be like WoW faction reputations, but with your own companions, to unlock higher influence quest lines and the like.

In a sense, its nothing brand new per se, just re-envisioning the idea of rather than grinding rep with some goblin city, you'd be grinding it with Bastila rather than Carth, or whatever.

Well at least they're not leaving it as a loose end forever... even if it'd actually be nice to see that story told. Though, I suppose if they confirm that Revan dies on his quest, it at least opens the door for someone to go in at a later date and establish what happened, since there's now no need to be secret, for the comics to pussyfoot around the issue, or whatever. If its now confirmed KOTOR3 isn't happening, it means the period doesn't have to be kept sacred for BioWare.

I can't say I'm too surprised though. A lot of people have been calling for a New Sith Wars setting--and that's basically what we've got. Its not the New Sith Wars, but that's basically what it is... just earlier.

The game itself seems like it will be great fun. Companions are pretty much party members in an MMO and that's really cool. Bioware is focusing on the story a lot more than other games. They regard it as their biggest game yet. Also, in the FAQ they talked about how most of the characters from KOTOR are dead, but they do have descendants and that "droids can operate for a long time", hinting at HK-47.

I am, however, upset that Revan failed...and we don't even know how. It'd be one thing if we played it out, but this approach is just...I don't know. However, I'm sure it will all be explained in the game's lore.

Am I the only one who holds out hope that this could be interesting?

    Seriously? o_O

10 bucks says Revan is intimately involved with the storyline

Which leaves one wondering why they couldn't have done the New Sith Wars, but... *shrug*

I'm *headdesk*ing the most at this moment over the fact that the symbol for the Sith Empire is the symbol of the Galactic Empire. Banners at the bottom of the description page.

ETA: Also, at starfighters in a surprise attack by the Jedi that look a great deal like the Jedi Starfighters of the prequels. really? WHy?

Hedec - I still have hope, it's just saddening to me that LA seems to have such a strong desire to just go down the same route again.

    Poking through the site...

    ... lol

I thought The Force Unleashed and The Clone Wars represented the depths of this franchise's creative bankruptcy, but Bioware proves me wrong. [face_laugh]

It could, but there were so many ways this could have been interesting and now we get the same crap as ever.

    Oh, hell.

I'm gonna side with those who have expressed their feelings as . There's a chance BioWare can pull this off...but it's so minuscule as to be nonexistent.

Oh, and does anyone else think that the so-called "story" for this game is nothing more than bull feces?

Tell me this is just a bad dream and when I wake up there will be an announcement for KOTOR 3 starring Revan and the Exile as they take on the hidden Sith.

Nope, you're not. Though it could be interesting, it simply doesn't really grab me. Like, at all...

Um, the one thing that's mildly interesting is it looks like some of Tython's history and early Jedi stuff might get filled in a bit.

    But then there's this jewel:
    *sigh*

    EXAR KUN!!!!!!!

    *sigh*

I think this quote honestly sums up the entire reveal. Between this and the Daala vs Luke spoilers we've been getting in MF it's absolutely amazing how these storylines get recycled. I think I sympathize with Cade more with his "galaxy kicking around the Jedi" May he hopefully never become a Jedi
