Oh, Oblio, I would have posted earlier but I had to go to hospital and get my sides sown up again after laughing at this thread.

I am scared about you and D, you gun crazed loons. I don't wanna get a rep, but for the record, I don't understand why the Australian Army switched to the Steyrs either. They suck. The old SLRs where (although much heavier) much better. You gotta love the bruise the develops under your right eye. Of course, I haven't actually fired the Steyr.....

I find that firing belt-fed weapons are just a pain. The REAL way to fire belt fed weapons is on a tripod with someone actually feeding out of an ammo box - less sand, less jams.

For the record, if by D you mean me, I am not, nor have I ever been, Dsource, S2BU or Count D.

With that settled, belt fed machine guns operate fine in sandy conditions with an experienced operator who knows what parts to keep oiled and what parts to keep dry.
And I've fired the Styer, what ity lacks in stopping power compared to the SLR, it makes up for in rapid fire, and the ability to keep firing even if it's underwater.
Trust me, I've taken enough of them with me falling into rivers...

And also, I'm not a gun crazed loon, merely a paid professional.

unless jedis start walking on water, it isnt likely they'll come up against a phalanx given they weigh about 6 tonnes.

for those who haven't heard of the phalanx it's a ship based anti missile/anti aircraft point defence which fires 20mm sub-calibre munitions (read 15mm diameter slugs of depleted uranium) at missiles or aircraft heading to a ship.

imo a jedi would probably stand a decent chance against one since they're non metallic and would be rather difficult for the phalanx to track.

another reason projectile weapons are not very common in the SW universe is that in a null to low gravity environment (such as on a ship when gravity generation had failed, or on a moon/planet with low gravity, the recoil would be quite inconvenient for the firer. that and given how yoda can lift an xwing from a swamp an experienced jedi would have no problem deflecting a few bullets out of the way.

Yes, but xwings do not come flying at you at 300 meters a second :)

Ok ok, 'cept when they are being flown of course :)

Alright then, how would a jedi go about deflecting a thor shot?

    I'd like to see that <evil snigger>

i wonder what would have happened if yoda was on alderaan (the ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the force...)?

why didn't obi-wan and anakin sense the toxic dart and deflect it?

two more things about phalanx: on ship, many refer to it as r2-d2 'cos of the way it looks. also most are going to tungsten rounds due to the lack of health concerns.

they'll still use du ammo in a-10's, etc. as tungsten is too expensive and mushrooms which diminishes its effectiveness as armour-piercing. depleted uranium has this neat 'self sharpening' property and there is a huge abundance of du laying around ever since the 50's.

unfortunately, despite the overwhelming evidence to support health dangers, nato and the us government still refuse to assist in any clean up of spent du rounds in kosovo or iraq. :(

On topic for a sec, the Jawa that deactivates Artoo on Tatooine does not use a blaster-like weapon. I'm guessing that he uses highly modified ion gun, for lack of a better term. It seems to behave in a similar way to the ion cannons found on Y-wings, B-wings and most capital starships - ie it deactivates electronics requiring a total systems restart to begin functioning again. However, this is of significantly lesser power.

Also, Aura Sing carries a weapon similar to Zam Wessel's.

Excellent, I just checked by Visual Dictionary and the Jawa's weapon is listed as an "Ion Blaster". It says that the Jawa's custom built ionisation blasters stun droids in a similar way to ion cannons disabling ships.

The VD also says that blasters use high energy gas to create a plasma bolt that is converted to the final 'laser' blast through various focusing devices. Interesting. Comments?

VD also says IG-88 carries a pulse cannon and a Neural inhibitor projectile launcher - whatever that means.

Does Jango's wrist cable count as a projectile weapon?

there is a bloope in aotc - zam wesell is carrying one of jango's westar-34 blasters when she speaks to jango and then again when she's on the ledge (look in her right holster). then when she's in in her speeder and in the nightclub she has her kyd-21. i noticed this the 3rd time i saw it.

oops, someone else in the bar probably has it now, complete with hand...

Nasty little EWOKS! with their mutilating projectile weapons of Bows and Arrows, dropping rocks from above, on our Brave loyal Stormtroopers.. Those things should be banned.

Just give me one Tie Fighter and would show those vampires teddy bears a thing or too!
