Saw this in the local Waterstones bookstore today. I think the price was around £25. It's not my cup of tea but I did flip through it. Nice looking book!
Looked more like a coffee table book to me - one section for each character. Reminded me of the essential character guides.
From what I've seen, it's a mix of OOU info and IU information. More of a cool look at each character, less of something akin to what we saw in the character guides. --Adm. Nick
Correct -- key moments, important scenes, creative insights, that sort of thing. Not intended to be a character bio.
My copy is still en route - can anyone tell me if there are any interesting snippets in the Daughter entry? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I said "similar"; extend the analogy. But I don't think this is really the place for discussing gender issues; droids have always been given genders, and droids usually show up in character guides like this.
For all the talk of "programming" in Star Wars, nobody seems to actually do it. New owners aren't programmed in; instead they use override bolts and memory wipes if they need a droid to stay loyal. The one example of a "reprogrammed" droid we have on screen is K-2SO, and we see that the end result has its quirks at best. I don't think anyone in the Star Wars universe actually knows how their tech works, they just know that it does cuz they've had it for a thousand years.
From other canon sources there's also Mister Bones and R0-GR - both of whom nicely reinforce your point about reprogrammed droids having "quirks" (a bit of an understatement, in Bones' case). It's something I hadn't thought about before.

The illustrations I glanced through at Barnes and Noble were terrific, but I think I'll just get the eBook. I'm not big into artbooks usually, and I think saving the price and physical space in this case would be worth it. I'm really interested to see the artwork of previously non-illustrated characters.
I just realized there's no Arliz Hadrassian or Carise Sindian in here... I feel like that's a major mistake. They were the big villains of what's about the only proper ST-era novel, and two characters who could definitely use some expansion or BTS info on.
There is no digital edition of this book. (I cannot intelligently speak to why that is the case, as I am not an employee of Chronicle books.)
Indeed. I think it's also the first time we've seen her in a "realistic" depiction, rather than stylized in either the Ewoks or Forces of Destiny style.
Ah, I'd forgotten they'd done a realistic-style action figure of her in recent years. I figured any action figure would have been an 80s Kenner model, in the style of the show.
By the way, I just discovered that, according the the Hasbro panel at Celebration VI, Leland Chee actually ID'd an Ewok of ROTJ as Kneesaa. However, that was before the 2014 soft reboot, so I am not sure what's the canon status of this retcon.
