Vala is great. I can see where she would come across as anyoing though.

    Still, better then Jonas :p

I like her because she adds levity that is normaly missing. Just a simple girl trying to make her way in the world, as opposed to everyone else who comes across as perfect all the time.

It's the repetitiveness of her hilarity that makes her annoying. It just gets old. I'm not saying I hate her, I just wish we had a bit more levity in face of such a grave threat.

We can't have everybody deadly serious, it makes things boring.

Who else is deadly serious? You have Daniel's constant neuroticism, Mitchell's boyish enthusiasm, and Te'alc's dry humor. Couple that with Vala's non-stop chattering, and you have a three-ring circus, not a serious show.

Now, again, I'm not saying I hate Vala- I loved her in the last few episodes, but the routine is getting old, just like when Jack got ditched into the comic-relief role during season eight. He lost his personality for the sake of a good laugh, and that ultimately failed, character-wise. Right now, I don't see much of Vala as a person; I see her as a joke, because that's how the show is largely treating her.

You'll get your deadly serious when Sam coms back next episode. This is the calm before the storm so to speak.

I don't think I'd consider her a running joke. I think that maybe in the first two or three that's all she was but with the last two you're getting more character development out of her then some characters have gotten in the entire run of the series.

Shes kind of paralleling the whole Ori threat in a way. Like how some people thought of Jar-Jar in the PT. As the naivety of the galaxy/universe/whatever scale we are on fades as does her's.

Daniels starting to bother me. Everytime he delivers a line thats supposed to be some sort of revelation, he delivers it the exact same way, with the exact same emphasis and everything.

After 8 seasons of it, its becoming to pronounced! MICHAEL SHANKS!!! Mix it up a little!

Just a reminder (or just to let you know if you didn't already) Sci-Fi is again running a poll for a SG-1 Viewer's Choice Marathon (Friday, Sept. 2).

Pick your favorite episodes and see which ones make the cut.

You can pick up to ten or pick fewer if you want.

I just watched Heroes for the first time the other day and I had to make that two of my choices. Very strong episode. Probably the best SG-1 ever.

    I voted for:

    Solitudes
There But For the Grace of God
    Point of View
    Nemesis
    Window of Opportunity
    2010
    Full Circle
    Lost City, part 2
    Reckoning, part 2
    Threads

Last night's episode was pretty good- was glad to see a return to the Ori plot, as opposed to last week's "for nothing" sidetrip. This also seemed a more natural evolution for the Vala character from her experiences in Avalon part 2 and Origin (versus her regression last week)- these various traumatic situations are forcing her to grow up a bit.

Also, when the Pryor showed up for the theological debate, I couldn't help but cheer out "c'mon Daniel!" as the commercial break hit ::)
I love his ability to present reason to people when both defending his position and attempting to sway others from falling for the Ori- much like his verbal sparing with the Doci in Origin, his debate with the Pryor is Daniel in his element (outside of his professional environment, so its more about who the character is rather than what he does or can do).

I rather think Michael Shanks is consistently excellent in his performance- notably in Abyss.

Awesome episode. The humor flowed well, the action was good (if a little heavy-handed on the explanation side- I figured out what was going on before the Pryor had even placed his hand on the Stargate). And Vala was excellent. "Sending a message:" Hee.

I didn't particularly care for it but I was distracted for a lot of it. I'm watching the encore right now and I'm already picking up some good stuff that I missed earlier.

This was the best episode of the season so far. I like how vala has evolved as a character. I think if any one needs convincing that the ori are threat, this episode has done it.

Yeah this was probably the second best episode of the season so far (right behind Origin)- and it's not even because Carter was back (in fact, we really didn't need her in the episode at all). Last week showed the more subtle evil of the Ori, and this week it shows them threat on a greater scale.

They also took my idea for a super-large stargate, ah well, there goes that "let me write it" hope ;)

And I'm sad to see Vala go away for now- just watching her, Teal'c, Daniel and Cam playing basketball really made me sad to know this was gonna be her last episode for awhile.

Came also got the best lines this week:

    "We defeated Anubis."
"And most of the system lords were killed by the replicators."
    "And we defeated the replicators."
    "Wow, we look cool."

    "Earth minutes?"
"Yeah, I've always wanted to say that."

"Hey, Pryor, you understand that you are within a 100 mile radius?"

Yeah Cam had some good lines in there. I also liked the whole "Shaft" exchange (and Vala's later explanation that not everything she says is innuendo).

Still even after a second viewing I didn't think this was one of the better episodes from season 9.
The force field devoid of life was good until it turned into a force field fed of the energy of the weapons fired at it.

I really didn't get the giant gate thing either. I actually thought that it took away some of the threat of the Ori. You went from the insidious threat of last episode to a giant stargate transporting an armada ?[face_plain] An armada of what, priors?

It was an impressive display of power destroying a planet like that but I think that would of worked as the end game. You know "witness the power of the Ori. If you don't follow us not only will we kill off your people but we'll wipe your planet from the Galaxy". The addition of black holes and giant stargates didn't really add anything IMO.

I wasn't thrilled with Vala's death either. Not just because I enjoyed the character (we all knew it was a temp thing) but because all the spoilers had said that she "valiantly sacrifices herself" but it didn't come across that way to me at all. It came across as a step back for the character. She wasn't sacrificing herself to stop the Ori threat she was trying to prove how great she was and wasn't fast enough on the rings. Still it could prove for some interesting interactions if and when Vala makes a comeback.

Overall though still a good hour of television and really only pales to the other episodes in what I consider a very strong season.

    Edit: I'm also missed Daniel's beard :p .
