I am curious about the various terms we have been hearing about TFA, can someone clarify please?

The Array: Is that another word for the orbital component of the Starkiller Weapon or is the array a separate device/weapon in its own right? Some said those anti-fighter missiles/turrets are the array but I just thought they were a new anti-starfighter defense used on ships and installations to counter what was a major deficiency the Empire suffered in the past.

The Catapult and Starkiller: Which one is on the planet and which one is in orbit again? I have heard the catapult was the orbiting component focusing and directing the energy of the Starkiller Weapon to it's target but I do not know for sure.

The Sledgehammer: Has anyone heard about what this weapon is supposed to be like and how it will work? All I have heard so far is that it is a resistance weapon, has anyone heard anything more about it?

I completely agree, which is why I asked from where this information comes...

I always thought the catapult is simply the production name of the starkiller.

I think the climatic space and air battle over Starkiller base planet will be in the UR at the climax of TFA. But it would still be fun if the other two episodes after TFA VIII and IX takes place in the UR. How about a search for a long lost fleet of ancient warships in the UR like Dark Force Rising. The First Order sucseeds in getting the warships while the Resistance saves some of the remaining ones to fight in the climatic space battles of VIII and IX.

    DUCK and COVER!

(not that this will help anyone in the path of Starkiller's beam(s))

Ilum is the planet in the Clone Wars era that the Jedi send their younglings to harvest their lightsaber crystals.

It was featured in THE CLONE WARS tv show. Season 5, episdoe 6 THE GATHERING. Ahsoka takes a bunch of Jedi younglings to Ilum, which is sacred to the Jedi, to harvest their lightsaber crystals from the caves on that icy world.

So, if Starkiller Base IS actually Ilum, re-purposed, then it ties the ST to the Prequels through that planet. The First Order would be using a sacred Jedi planet, full of underground caves of kyber crystals....as a power source for their huge weapon.

I know this is something that us diehard fans understand and identify, but I wonder if the location of the Starkiller Base on Ilum will even be something that's touched on in the movies?

"Before the Empire, the Jedi used the crystals on this planet to construct their lightsabers." That would do the job.

I have a feeling that what Kylo is looking at from the Finalizer is some type of exotic energy running along the trench(es) of the planet below. When the energy flow converges it is directed upwards into orbit and into the large round port of the orbital weapon. Inside the orbital weapon the energy is concentrated and sent into hyperspace to it's target.

I see a churning energy device on the ground of a planet that sends a massive, lavalike beam upward

    :D

I like that. The First Order would be literally using the energy of the Crystals, which the Jedi used for good, for their own evil purposes. It's a great illustration of the corruption of the Force by the Dark Side.

Are they melting them down then, because it's the red, liquid that they are collecting and shooting up to the orbital launcher.

    ^Probably plasma rather than liquid.

If Ilum is destroyed, that pretty much means that another Death Star/Starkiller weapon is essentially impossible. Hope Luke stocked up on lightsabr crystals.

^ I guess that's assuming Ilum is the only place to find the crystals. In a galaxy of billions of systems, I'd say there's an ample supply.

Big enough crystals to power a death star, though?

It seems like they are test-firing it here since all the troops are standing as if watching a staged event. Does anyone know what they are test-firing at?

In a leaked shooting script, it says that they are firing it at something code-named the "Tunnel of Love." Any ideas?
Some have suggested that the "Tunnel of Love" is the word they use for Hosian Prime, but I've also heard that Luke is on Hosnian Prime. Any other ideas?

Liquid? Where di you get that?

Because it is written in the Gospel of Jason.

Darth_Corvus "Liquid? Where di you get that?"

1, Kylo Ren watching the red line slowly moving from the Bridge of the Finalizer. I surmise that this is the red liquid running along the trench on the planet below.

2, The Trench in front of Starkiller Base is still steaming when the X-Wings attack. I surmise it is still hot after the liquid has been launched.

3, The report in Rolling Stone magazine regarding seeing a shot of red lava-like liquid being shot upwards into space.

So...the red liquid is let loose to run along that equatorial trench and then diverted away from Starkiller Base along those two other trenches until it reaches the launching equipment. It is then shot into space (the red skies shot in the trailer).

I'm guessing that the spherical 'mini Death Star' is the collector for the liquid up in orbit and that it is some type of Hyperspace gateway.

Giant crystals inside our own planet.

Ahh I see. Well its hard to guess substances based on how fast they travel. In the OT blaster shots that should travel at the speed of light were considerably slower than regular bullets. Red liquid sounds interesting as a concept. It reminds me of how the reapers fire a magnetically accelerated stream of molten metal in Mass Effect.

I don't read much of the EU but there's some interesting comments in one of the threads here. I'm thinking that maybe the orbital receptor for the red liquid could be like an 'Infinity Gate'?

There is the possibility that the Jedi use synthetic crystals, when going to Ilum is impossible. I also would like to see the canonisation of Adegan Crystals.

I only know about the leaked shooting schedule from millenniumfalcon.com. Has there also been a script leak now?

Another Thing: Having read an article in which the starkiller weapon was called the sunsucker, i think that the weapon is maybe powered up by eating up stars all around in the galaxy and using their energy to destroy targets.

The systems from which the starkiller leeches the energy die a freezing death and the power it got is maybe used to keep the planet secure (Array).
