starship timeline

Could we make a starship timeline? It woulds show when starship were conceived of, designed, firt produced, put into action, or at the very least first known appearannce, when stopped being produced, etc. The founding of starship manufacturers and their collapses and mergers, etc. The births, deaths, and lives of important engineers and CEOs (Raith Sienar, Lady Santhe, Kuat of Kuat, Walex Blissex, etc.)

For starters, I have tried to divide every ship I know of into three "time categories"

1) pre-Empire: Existed prior to the founding of the New Order, ie, the time of the Galactic Republic and earlier

2) classic: from the founding of the New Order to the founding of the Alliance of Free Planets

3) post-Endor: anything after the Battle of Endor (Alliance of Free Planets, New Republic, Galactic Alliance)

each of these categories could be further broken down:

pre-Empire: a) pre-Republic, b) pre-5000 BBY, c) 5000-2000 BBY, d) 2000-1000 BBY, e) 1000-18 BBY

classic: a) pre-Yavin, b) Yavin-Endor

post-Endor: a) Endor-destruction of Byss, b) destruction of Byss-BFC, c) post-BFC-NJO, d) post-NJO (future novels)

I purposefully left that off, b/c my understanding is that it is just a modified CloakShape. Modifications and customizations did not make it to the list, although certainly they deserved a place on the timeline (also, the Sith Infiltrator would fall in that category). The only individual ships I listed are those of class unknown (Tann's, Toth's, Bella's, the Zoomer, etc.) or unique ships (the Naboo Royal Fleet's various designs, the Star Home, the Chu'unthor, etc.)
Many YVong designs are probably pre-Empire, but the only ones I am certain are are the Grand Cruiser and Worldship, both said to be hundreds, even thousands, of years old.

Expect classic and post-Endor lists in the future.

The project you've setup here sounds pretty difficult. Setting up a timeline to break down starships first appearing into sounds really to be the easy part. But the conception, prototype, etc. material is what makes this sound to be a difficult project.
