Actually, the net has been around longer than Star Wars. It just hasn't been easily obtainable since the 90s.

It's been around since the 60s. But the fact that it wasn't commonplace in households until the 90s is kind of the point. People weren't discussing Star Wars on the 'Net until then.

Oh, I'm pretty sure some lucky people with access to University Computers and what not could have used Newsgroups and such to discuss it.

Probably, but we're talking about a handful of people vs.--how many are registered on this site alone?

Are you going to argue that the Internet had just as much of an effect on Star Wars, or any other aspect of pop culture, in the late 70s and early 80s as it does now?

No, but no matter how marginal, it probably still had some effect, just like anything in the period of time after the internet was introduced.

But yes, you are right that the internet didn't have the same effect as it does today back then.

this thread made me laugh, starts on with hating star wars fans because some fans don't like everything about it, to a debate when the internet was available for public use.

With that said, I agree with MM's straight to the point response.

I don't think the OP was suggesting that he hated Star Wars fans because some of them don't like some things about Star Wars, Rick. I think he was suggesting they stop their incessant whining, which I agree with. :p

I agree it is B.*. what they said about the prequels being the worse. Hell I found some of classics alittle hard to watch myself. Star wars is pretty much as a saga a hit and miss at the same time. meaning each movie has its own vareations, meaning some are better than others out of all six movies. However don't hate all the Star wars fans. I do support you on the prequels.

Besides I meet some older genertion people who first saw the Star Wars films from 1977 to 83. some actually hated the very first one. I would agree it is alittle wired. Top Star wars film of all time The empire Strikes back. Return of the jedi was my second favorite and a new hope was the least out of the classics for me or even prequels.

EDIT: I have of thearoy if a sequel trilogy does come out even with the charcters from episode 4, 5, and 6, The are also going to hate these movies too and the Prequels are probally going to be the most loved of all time.

In My opnion. Lord of the rings is alot better than all six Star Wars movies. Sorry guys I hate to burst your bubble.

Indeed. I really don't like the community on TORn that much. You say one bad thing about LOTR, they'll attack you until you e-cry.

Internet Star Wars "fandom" is one of the most nauseating, dull, and pointless things I've ever witnessed. And it never seems to end. Everyone knows how Star Wars "should have" begun and eneded, and its almost never what we actually got. These are not fans of Star Wars, they are fans of themselves.
Actually, I used to be one of the prequel-hating trilogy purists before Ep III came out. The only SW-related website I knew was originaltrilogy.com, and they REALLY hate Lucas there. So as soon as I saw III and loved it, I signed up on the TFN boards, expecting to find a majority of fans who actually approved of the past three flicks. Boy was I wrong. So negative. So non-productive and senseless. So anti-fun. To this day I can't believe anyone has any criticism for Revenge of the Sith. Even as an old school OT kid, it satisfied me in every way.

So I waited another four years or so before coming back, thinking the smoke had cleared and the haters had jumped off the bandwagon. Wrong again. They're still here and they're still at it. They feel obligated to contradict any insight or appreciation of the saga beyond their own narrow-minded unwavering opinions. It must be hard work. It sure is tedious to read. I wish they would all just finish their re-imaginings of the SW saga, compare, and nitpick each other until the end of time.

In closing I'll say this. If you can recall a specific moment, year or era during which Star Wars "jumped the shark", "stopped being good" etc, you're kidding yourself. Star Wars hasn't changed. You have.

I posted elsewhere that I used to find fandom fun, inspiring, and engaging but now find it boring and annoying. I still love Star Wars itself but let's just say the universe in which I discuss it is an awfully small one.

Many good points here. Most fans are reasonable enough, and fun to discuss SW with, but the people who consider themselves "fans", yet are seemingly filled only with hate, ridicule, and complaints, can kind of ruin it for everyone if you let them.

Wait, so our bubble has been burst because your opinion is that LOTR is better than SW? [face_laugh]

I liked both lord of the Rings and Star Wars both Equel plus I had a hard time logging into theonering.net plus I found other fans on the Jedi Concuil fourms who love lord of the rings just as much as I do.

I have talked to other Star Wars fans and some perfer other things even more soo than Star wars and some liked batman begins and the Dark knight even better than Star Wars. They where here on the boards. I Gusses it depends on what mod I am into when wanting to watch a movie.

I love the prequels, they're what got me into Star Wars. Ok so they're not the same as the OT, but that's the good thing, the OT was made with available(limited) technology, and the PT was made with the available technology. And I thought it was great, with much better lightsaber fights. The OT shows events that happens after the Clone Wars and raises lots of questions about why they're running. And the PT answers the questions, and lead into the Clone Wars cartoons, which I absolutely love.

And if they were the same, the "fans" would be complaining, "oh, it's too much like the OT:( that was a waste of time" dumb@$$es

And you know what really grinds my gears is people bashing Hayden Christenson, I thought he did a great job as Anakin, especially when he gets pissed

I missed this the first time as well. Great quote.

Honestly I've been guilty of the first statement to some extent, particularly regarding ROTS. It's not the differences in opinion that bother me so much, it's two other aspects: one, the idea that "everyone" or "most people" share one particular opinion, and two, the hostility towards anyone who does not share that particular opinion. I don't participate in any other fandoms right now so maybe it's not unique to Star Wars--I actually think the Harry Potter fandom might be worse--but at the same time, I have noticed a prevalence of it among Star Wars fans.

It's Lucas' story. Only he has the right to say how it "should" have begun or ended or how any characters or plot points "should have" turned out. The rest of us can only say that we "wish" that X, Y, or Z could have been different. And as I said, I do have my own list. See my signature. :p

And yes, some people would grouse no matter what.

As far as Hayden, I have seen several of his movies, and he can do both pissed off and angsty like no other actor that I've seen.

I guess people just hate the fact that Anakin is pissed off and angsty, as you say. Well, that's what he is. That's how George decided to craft his character. It might be disappointing, it might not be, but that's how it is. I hope--and I sense--that TCW is helping us move past rehashing this particular critique as a fandom.

I've heard "whiny emo" and "crybaby" a lot as criticism of Anakin, so I think you're right.

TCW Anakin is not like that though.
