These are a couple of my favorite books by Stephen King, and lately I have been thinking about a possible correlation.

In the Shining, Dick, the chef of the Hotel, talks to Doc about his "shining on" and how he and his grandma would talk without even moving their lips. They were telepathic and able to sense others and tell them things from afar.

In the Stand, the old woman, Mother Abigail, in the middle of Kansas (correct me if im wrong, its been a while since ive read or watched) draws people to her after the disease infects the world. She uses a means of telepathy.

Do you think that Mother Abigail from the Stand is the grandmother of the Chef Dick from The Shining?

Almost all of Stephen Kings' books are connected in some way. And all connections lead to The Dark Tower and you?re not a true Stephen King Fan (In my opinion) unless you?ve read his Dark Tower Epic.

I did pick up the mention of the Shining in the Stand, but I think Shining is an actual southern slang for telepathy.

Also, the bad guy in the Gunslinger series, The Stand, and a couple of other books I can't think of have the initials R.F.

Randal Flagg from The Stand is the one who is the 'villain' in the Dark Tower.

And Mother Abigail was in Nebraska not Kansas.

Randel Flagg (the Stand) and Flagg (the magician from Eye of the Dragon) are most likely one and the same...

ah-HA nebraska. that was it. i knew i had it wrong. i just put in a state which was flat, boring and had corn, no offense to residents.

and yeah, randall flagg is in both eyes of the dragon and the stand, but if memory serves correct this time, he isn't addressed as Randall in eyes of the dragon.

i have noticed Flagg in numerous books by Stephen King. He is the bad guy.

Is there any GOOD guy mentioned in numerous books to keep him in check, or is there just one person, or a group who work collaboratively to get rid of him in each book?

My favorite book of all time has to be The Stand. A great read. I've read some of The Dark Tower series, but I never liked them. This was a while ago though. Is it worth a shot? What's the general (no spoilers) plot of the series?

there is a gateway to two worlds and the fate of both is tied to a Dark Tower in the more desolate world, where Roland of Gilead hails from. The worlds are the same, just different times. i need to read them again before i read wolves of the callah, if i ever can get the money to buy it

I don't think I actually read these. From what I saw of it, I thought it was like a sci-fi western sort of? Is this right?

    More of a post-Apocalyptic Sci-fi/Fantasy Western.

yeah, i guess you can look at it that way.

thats how i look at it.

To me, it's a western/sci-fi/epic/religious story written by someone who was probably high when he did most of it.

it's very imagnitive and has just many different aspects of so many things.

it's a love story too, tragedy, hope against hope sort of thing

Yeah, Misery was fantastic. It's one of a very few King books I thought translated well to the screen.

I'm reading Wolves of the Calla right now. I love how all his other stories seem part of this epic series now.

I thougt he lost a step with Regulators and Desperation, but he seems back to himself....

    i love it. Misery rules.

**EDIT**i thought desparation was great, but i couldnt get into the regulators, which was odd, i guess because it was just too similar to desparation, i couldn't handle it.

I hope that when the DT series is over, Stephen King will let some brilliant director, like PJ, adapt his story to the big screen. I think it would be excellent. Even though it'd be 7 movies long, i think PJ could do it, considering how well he did LOTR. but that's my own opinion

The Dark Tower is the bastard child of The Lord of the Rings and The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.

Heh, that's a pretty good way to describe the Dark Tower books, w_k.

And I agree about The Regulators. It was a cool book but was really strange and a little confusing considering it came out so close on the heels of Desperation.
