straight relationships are way gayer than gay ones

So i was listening to the radio today and this homophobic guy phones in and starts ranting about how gay people are bad and effeminate and all sorts of stuff.
it got me thinking, and actually the guy was a complete moron, because by his definition there is actually nothing gayer than a heterosexual relationship.
all the stuff guys do like foreplay and being nice to girls and stroking, is actually effeminate and therefore well gay.
on the other hand 2 gay guys might be more gangsta about it and not that booboo'd up (like whipped as some guys are).

this blows another hole in stupid homophobic arguments. would u agree with this?

OK, so a het guy "stroking" a girl is "gay"? [face_thinking]

I think there is a huge difference between displaying gender-stereotypical behavior and sexual orientation. Women can be fairly butch but not necessarily lesbian or even bi. And some guys can indeed be very feminine in some of their behavior yet be completely het.

Why is it that so many people still get these two mixed up? Being attracted to the same gender doesn't necessarily make you "effeminate" or butch or whatever. The way you express your gender is something very public and it's there for everyone to see. What you do in your own private life (i.e. sexuality) is usually a very private thing. And usually you mostly keep it between you and your partner.

The only exception is when getting married or in a LTR - if het people can freely talk about their husbands or wives or SOs, why shouldn't gays and lesbians? But that's just the public recognition of a relationship for social reasons, therefore not intrinsically linked to the sexual orientation of the couple.

It does seem bizare that homosexuality is so obvious. I mean, how would someone have gone about covering it up when it was against the law to be gay if their behaviour is easily spotted from a mile away?8-} Surely if things were that simple some judge or lawyer would have gone "Wait a minute, they all act like our stereotypical image of women!" and rounded everyone up in a concentration camp!

But, y'know, simple use of the noodle doesn't apply to some people.

Gay guys can be nice, gay guys can be pricks. Gay guys can be effeminate, but they can also be quite butch. The point is being gay is not a personality trait, it has no bearing on who you are other than who you prefer having rumpy pumpy with. Why some people don't get that is beyond me.

No, being gay or lesbian isn't a personality trait. Gender expression, to some extent, can be, imho. Not too long ago we weren't allowed to wear anything but skirts and dresses. Katherine Hepburn was regarded as a trailblazer when she started wearing trousers in public.

Today women still enjoy a wider range of "acceptable" gender expression than men, but hopefully this too will change over time.

I find people don't have a problem with "camp" men so much as they do when gay men hold hands in public.

I think gender expression is tolerated to a degree, people just make assumptions about sexuality off of the back of it, something that still happens to masculine women unfortunately.

    Precisely!

Eddie Izzard has said in the past about how annoyed he gets that people assume he's gay because he's a transvestite. People have a preconcieved image unfortunately. I guess they find it easier than getting to know someone for who they are.

i see what you're saying, but i think you have to consider that they only do that efemmey stuff to get laid by a chick, which is like the definition of not gay, but it is an interesting paradox

think of an r&b song, it is all pleading and wussy and crying vocals and flowing silk shirts in the video but the point of it is to get some, which is totally not gay, but yeah it looks gay in the video cause they're in pastel colored outfits, and if it's a group each guy has a different pastel, it looks like a bag of easter m&ms, but it's a known deceivery

it all kinda reminds me of that old joke about a fat girl is like a moped, fun to ride but you wouldn't want your friends to see you on it, i think you could say girls in general are fun to ride but you wouldn't want your friends to see you start her up, maybe more like a lawnmower than a moped if you have one of those mowers that takes a lot of oomph to start

I never get this whole thing of acting a bit camp gets you girls. I thought girls went for the bad boys, the ones who act tough & either look badass (and usually can't speak english properly) or have awful dress sense. There was me thinking sitting about in a vest drinking beer and belching was the neight of manliness :p

Yet now it seems acceptible to spend too long on your appearance, wear ourageous clothes, speak in a high voice and prance about. If I did that, people would most likely assume I'm gay, even women. Why would women want to have sex with a gay man? Gay men don't like women in that way. Sure more women hang around with you more, but that's because they feel "safe" with you or see you as another one of them. Not sure how someone as camp as Brand managed to get so many women, or managed to marry someone as hot as Katy Perry.

That's about all I have to contribute to this thread.

Very true. Displays of affection by same-sex couples still make some people uncomfortable (who wouldn't be uncomfortable if they watched a het couple doing the same thing).

Kristie, are you calling Pete a cheap whore? Anyone willing to take a dump off of the Hammersmith Bridge is worth at LEAST a quid for a quick handy.

Myself, I'd have taken a shilling. I'd also let him stick a carrot in my butt.
