I found this somewhere in the netherworld of the JCC. It was so awesome, I had to post it here. Too bad it isn't mine.

    *sigh*

"Your brain is about as empty as Alderaan's weapon racks."

Such an awesome way to call someone stupid...

Hey, has anybody mentioned 'kerth' yet? It's one I've heard Han Solo say every now and then.

What's a good Star Warsy way of saying "stupid," as in "Now you're just being stupid"? Nothing extremely vulgar, but rude is fine.

    stupid?

"your powers of retention mirror hut slime."

    oh yeah.

"Scarhead" is a not-so-nice way to say "Yuuzhan Vong" and equates to a racial slur.

I like it :) the Alderaan quote wouldn't have worked for this character, but the systems short of a sector will. Thanks!

    AlisonC, you are welcome. :)

For wide-eyed, shocked awe, I now have a new permutation for my love affair with the word 'frag' - "How in the Original Frag...?"

Other permutations include, "Oh, frag me gently", "What the frag?", "Where the frag are we?"

Bantha poodoo and rycrit guano are replacing B.S.

Slitch replaces B.I.T.C.A. (Buffy fans might recognise that one!) :)

Also, my friend Livi-Wan, has this 'Sacred Feth' phrase that I have started to adopt myself. Good as a religious imprecation.

Our brilliant mod JadeSolo (sorry I'm too lazy to add the colors and stuff) recently used the interjection "nerfcrap" in one of her 'fics. Its context is roughly equivalent to its earthly profane equivalent, I'm assuming. Something along the lines of "You're kidding me" (though the phrase "you're nerfcrapping me" doesn't quite work the way it's intended).

I always liked "stars' end" as it was used in Labyrinth of Evil. Kind of like "well, it's the end of the line," though it seems stronger than that. Don't know if it could be considered a curse word, though . . . .

I've been using "Kriff" similar to how we use the "F-Bomb".

"Kriff off" and "Kriffer" are two recent examples I've used.

And Schutta seems to be the equivalent of the B-word.

OK, I need a suggestion to put in the mouth of a pre-PT Mace Windu.

Let's just say it has to have something to do with another famous Samuel L. Jackson character from the other famous movie of his, and its initials were written in Aurabesh on his sabre.

Oh yeah, and the fic is a takeoff on another meme that is currently rocketing around the Internet about a movie that hasn't been released yet. Yes, it will be my first fic. No, I don't want anyone to take it seriously. I know it will be retarded. But I hope to get a few chuckles out of it.

The trick with a swear word is the context. If you're consistent in the application of the word and use it in the same places where the reader would normally expect to see a one of the TOS violation words it'll get closer to the same effect as the actual swear word. Works great for the big epics, because you can reinforce the significance of the word over an extended period of time. And when all else fails, let another character comment on their questionable language or leave it implied. You can do a lot with ...she swore with a skill that caused the seasoned pilot to blush.

I've given this topic quite a bit of thought, because I tend to use some rather colorful language myself in the unrated realms.

Swear words are Era related too so they are very periodic, like slang is in RL don't forget. For instance, and I'm going with the obvious here, someone in the KOTOR era wouldn't say 'Emperors Black Bones' like Lando seemed so fond of using at times, and in the NJO it's just that nobody says THAT anymore.

Or on a more innocent level, in TPM Anakin's friend Kitster uses the word 'wizer' (which is probably the equivilant to 'cool') but in the post-NJO, Ben Skywalker will say it's modern-day equivilant 'astral'.

If you're having trouble finding something fitting for your foul-mouthed character, I just pick an alien race, Wookiee, Hutt, etc. just make-up a word. I for instance will use Wookiee-speak, and create a word like dishef, it's not an actual word, but it does the trick.

One thing I've noticed about Earth swear words is that they can be combined to form one long and very colorful phrase. I know this from experience. :p So I would think that if you're dealing with swear words from a particular culture, say, Corellian, they'd have a bunch of words that could be put together to make an even more "emphatic" phrase.

Thus, someone wouldn't just be a son of a Hutt. He'd be a fripping muckslubbing sithspitting fracking son of a Hutt.

Okay, fracking is from BSG, but I liked how it sounded. :p Another thing that's good to remember is that when all the words are put together, you can easily roll them off without your tongue getting tied (the problem with the phrase I just created).

I honestly find it hard to not use profanity in stories. That's partly because I myself have the mouth of a sailor, and partly because I don't think that even Jedi would be above the occasional "Bloody hell!" outburst.

    Me too. [face_laugh]

So I was writing this scene yesterday--well, planning and sketching it, at least--and I was frustrated that the word "kriff" just doesn't quite have the same effect as its Earth equivalent. And when you litter a conversation with it (like oh so many Earth conversations are saturated with f-bombs), it just sounds absurd. Almost absurd as calling someone a "motherkriffer"...

    [face_laugh]

Anyways, this isn't really a productive post. It's just a little bit of my anecdotal rambling.

Yeah. But if you really sit down and analyze a typical conversation between college-aged guys, the f-word to other word ratio is roughly 1:2 or 2:3. It's wild. And when you use "kriff" instead, it sounds hilarious.

I hang aroundother ROTC guys in college, so our swearage was a little toned down. something like 1:10 ratio.

Still not an unimpressive ratio, though. I find there are certain groups of people with whom I swear more around than others. And my unconcious decision to swear or not doesn't always have to do with age (my 8 year old cousin swears, and the 70yr old I work with swears. all my bases are covered in that category, frankly). There just seems to be a kind of subcultural acceptance to swearing that either gets fostered or doesn't within a group of people or friends. It's interesting.

But 'kriff' is a silly word when overused. 'F', not so much. I think there's just something more satisfying about that hard 'k!' at the end. Putting it at the beginning makes it sound like you're munching on cereal or something. 'Frell' is an okay-ish substitute, but since it was hijacked from a different fandom, it's also kind of cheating.

Crazy - for an extra touch of hilarious/stupid, use "Fatherkriffer". :p
