Demise of General Grievous at Hasbro.com

Part man, part machine, General Grievous is one of the most feared enemies of the Republic. Leading the Separatist droid armies, he destroys all who cross him, until the fateful battle with Obi-Wan Kenobi, who proves that even amazing technology is no match for the Force. This awesome figure will be available in early 2006 only at Target.

When I first heard about this figure, I was worried that it was going to be really poorly done, but I must say this one doesn't look too bad at all. I'm glad they used the sneak preview mold instead of the #36 one, and I'm happy to see actual plastic flames vs just spray painting the figure orange.

I'm probably crazy, but I have a few observations.

Those legs definitely look like the #36 ones to me. His posture looks like the #36 figure's also.

I agree with LetoQuorme about the flames. They did a nice job.

This last thing is what would impress me the most, if my observation is indeed accurate: it looks like he has three fingers on each hand, like he did in the movie in that scene. I'd certainly appreciate that attention to detail as a collector if this is in fact the case. The accessory choices are also scene-accurate - great job.

What it looks like to me is #36 (hopefully with the exploding feature removed), with the Sneak Preview arms (note the articulation at the elbows) and modified hands. I suppose it's possible that the hands are totally new and there is wrist articulation (or the forearms are new from the elbow down), but it doesn't look like it to me. The coloration also looks better overall.

EDIT: Edited for spelling and clarity.

I don't remember him having a gun in that scene, Obi-Wan had it, hence his death. I do remember him holding the electrostaff though.

Never noticed the fingers, very good eye!

I was just referring to the fact that the gun was in the scene. Grievous took it out on the wheelbike and fired it, took a shot at Obi-Wan with it when they crashed, then Obi-Wan knocked it out of his hand. When I said "scene" I was including everything between the camera wipes, not just the actual moment of Grievous' death. Sorry for any confusion.

And I'm glad you see the hand thing also - maybe I'm not entirely crazy!

This is yet another "pass" for me. The packaging is cool though.

There's obviously a reason why I'm not getting much this year. Am I getting poorer, or is the produce getting inferior? Probably both :(

Hasbro probably wants to spell everything out for us. Of course, this one's obviously made with the collector in mind, but it's still a toy. Toys are meant to be played with. Therefore you need only one Grievous, whose damnation in flames kids can re-enact themselves by using their own imagination.

However, for display purposes, those flames look nice enough.

It's funny, I was talking to my friend about this figure about a week ago, and I said "Maybe he'll have the flames coming out of his eye sockets like in the movie", being funny about. I was really surprised to see that is what the figure will look like, and I think it's a great figure as well.

Well I have a loose and a sealed sneak preview grievous and it is very much hard to get him to stand but the cloak sort of supports him as for this one I suppose you maybe able to use the electrostaff to support him unless hasbro supply a stand.

I like the idea, but am not big on the flames coming out of his eyes. I am wondering if that is something that will be removable.

And if I cannot find any more room to display these guys, they will all be left in the boxes for some time. :D
