Couldn't watch the trailer--it wouldn't run; but I've seen the poster.

Terrence Malick presents: Children. And Also, Nature.

Effective -- it's interesting, without giving you any idea what's going on.

Here it is: Tree of Life

I will guess this much: Sean Penn's character is dying.

Saw the trailer in front of Black Swan last week. Looks engaging even if I have no idea what it's about or what is going on, other than that we're examining the seemingly idyllic childhood of an adult who now looks grizzled and disappointed with life.

    oh, more malick!

who cares what it will be about, as long as it's there! :D it's probably the film the fountain wanted to be.

I did, and I have to say it was quite an experience. First off, the visuals were absolutely breathtaking. Everything from the shots of the big bang, to just the camera work when observing the family were absolutely breathtaking.

The story also works on every level it should, the characters are just deep enough for me to care about them, and understand their every move, even when we as an audience don't agree with them. Brad pitt gives a good performance, but Jessica Chastain steals the show as the graceful mother. The story is a very cosmic one, that does draw(some very well deserved)comparisions to 2001. But it never loses itself, and it is, so far the best movie I have seen this year.

yeah, i really liked this. it's probably malick's greatest achievement, if not his best film. it was a much more focused film than i thought it would be, as well. there were abstractions, but they flow so logically that it's not difficult to follow the thread.

Impressive and intriguing. But only better than The New World in Malick-dom.

I have only seen "Badlands", about which I had considerable reservations, but the style was mesmerizing.

think of tree of life as an UBER-malick film, much in the way that inland empire was an UBER-lynch film. i'd place it well above the new world and thin red line, but below days of heaven and badlands.

i read that he isn't very interested in the final cut, iguess he's more thrilled by the process of developing it.

ah, a beauty of a film. i find it'S the absence of irony, of sarcasm, that sheer aliveness of the images... that makes it worth it.

    i [face_love] malick.
