I had a similar thing happen to me when I got my tix for the 10:15 PM show, I managed to get decent seats for the 7 PM show, then waited a bit generally basking in the glory of having 7 PM Thursday tix (also the site kept crashing), then I tried again later for the 10:15 PM ... but only needed one tix, so I got even better seats for 10:15 cuz there were 3 seats open a few rows back, 1 by itself, two beside each other. So I bought the solo one beside the open one.... then my cousin says a minute later he'll do the 10:15 show too so I bought the other one right beside me!

Ok, so I re-bought my tickets for this reason.
As many of you know, J.J. Abrams being the wonderful man he is, shot select scenes of TFA using what I consider to be the absolute best format ever, we all know it as IMAX.
Yep, real IMAX cameras, 70mm film goodness. You may also know that although many theaters do in fact have REAL IMAX screens, only 11 of them across the U.S. are actually showing them like that.
Fortunately I came across an article that gave all these details, and as I was reading it, my jaw dropped when I read the name of one of the theaters on the list... it's a theater I live less then 20 minutes away from.
    I IMMEDIATELY re-bought my tickets.
IMA BE SEEIN TFA IN 70MM REAL IMAX GUUDNISS YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH

Never seen a film on IMAX (we got our first IMAX theatre in Sweden just a couple of months ago, and that's four hours away from me), but I'm a big fan of the cinemascope 2.35:1 aspect ratio, and don't like when aspect ratios change (like on the Catching Fire Blu-ray - it takes me out of the moment completely). Is it really worth it?

I absolutely HATE 3D. But anything 2D in my city is too far away from me and I don't have a car. So I'm going to the imax. If I have to see it in 3D, might as well make it monumental!

I was wondering if I'm the only one who's not going to see TFA on opening night/day. Its a matter of logistics for me. I live in a pretty rural area, and the theaters around here are pretty tiny. But I'm going on vacation in January, and there's a nice theater where I'm going. So, I'll see it on January 4.

January 4? Yikes, that is some extra wait! Planning on severing your Internet cable, cancelling your newspaper subscription and hiding your TV in the garage for a month?

I could never cope with that, so yeah, I'll be seeing it opening day (2.30PM December 16).

I hope I'll see it before Christmas but opening night is not a good one for me. I have to work. And as far as Friday, that's the weekend that my extended family always does its Christmas get-together.

There's a chance I'll get in Saturday morning or Sunday afternoon but more likely the next week or the week after Christmas.

Yeah the 2-D is going to be a consistent aspect ratio so that's another reason why I want to see it that way. Aspect ratio swapping always kinda bugs me.

I always prefer to see movies in regular 2D, which we'll be doing for TFA. Finally bought our tickets (with reserved seats, on the 19th) a little while ago.

Yeah, it sucks. The closest theater here is tiny, has bad seats and doesn't believe in heat. And the video quality really sucks. There's another one about an hour away. Has decent seats and pretty good audio/video....but the theaters are even smaller than the other one. Then there's a couple others a little farther away....but they haven't been updated since the 1950s. I don't really want to be in one of these tiny theaters when they're packed. I wouldn't mind seeing it at one of the local theaters for the 2nd or 3rd time....but I really want to see it someplace nice the first time.

It'd be really difficult to go see it opening day. I'd either have to take the train 4+ hours or drive 4-7 hours. Which would probably turn it into a 2 day event, with all the travel time and waiting in line. And I'd have to arrange a pet sitter for the horses and birds. So its no small under taking. But I keep bouncing back and forth.....can I make it until 1/4 or do I try to make the trip to a theater sooner.

We don't have TV, just Hulu and Netflix. No newspaper, either. The internet is a tough one, since I don't think I can go a month without it.

Guess I'll need to get my :yoda: on.... "control, control....I must learn control". :D

Gosh I thought waiting until Friday morning was gonna be hard. I have young kids, so hubby and I are taking Friday off to see it together while they are at school and daycare. I'm already averting my eyes a lot when seeing SW posts on Facebook in fear of seeing spoilers.

I would say to wait. I've been in some of the more "old school" theaters, and while they are good for some niche showings or the classic films, they aren't really built for Star Wars. For a theater that hasn't been updated since the 1950's, I wouldn't be surprised if there is difficulty on hearing the dialogue, or if the speakers pop during a TIE fighter run. Seems like the best bet is to plan for a long weekend and watch it at a modern theater which has surround sound, a digital projector and stadium seating. I had thought about going on a trip and seeing the Star Wars film somewhere else as part of the trip, but not surprisingly, I didn't plan that far ahead, and I ended up buying tickets for a local showing instead.

Opening night for me would be during my night shift, so probably not (unless I call in sick with mustseestarwarsitis). Nor the day after, since there's a fifty-fifty chance I'll fall asleep in the theater. Most probably Sunday.

Thankfully I live in an area with a lot of theaters; buying Fandango tickets today.

I'm trying to see one of the preview showings the 17th, since the 18th is my grandmother's birthday. Just trying to work out tickets with my girlfriend's family, since most of the theaters near us are doing reserved seatings and I'd rather not end up in the first row.
