It’s a good central recurring concept for the show, “How do you kill a Jedi without a weapon?” They’ve had scenes in every episode where Mae contemplates its meaning and it’s become its own mystery, maybe it’s the *real* mystery of the story. I think they should have given it a specific name, like how Conan had the Riddle of Steel.

I understand the frustration with Mae's sudden face turn, but I get the feeling it's supposed to be that way to starkly contrast what happened in ep3, and probably give another clue that what we saw with her starting the fire isn't accurate

The Volume is more often than not used within a set...so it's not either/or. If they're not using The Volume, they are most likely using more green screen extensions and adding digital backgrounds in later. The latter rarely looks as natural as the former, as the LED screens give you that in-camera image and lighting that's hard to replicate with CGI or plate inserts in post. There seems to be a continuing lack of understanding what the Volume is.

This is Star Wars TV on the Volume:

This is Star Wars TV without the Volume:

It's just a matter of taste, but I like when Star Wars (and other fantasy and sci-fi worlds) hide the artifice. The more natural it looks, the more I am immersed in the world.

That said, there are also some excellent shots in the Acolyte. Like this one:

So, I'm happy sometimes and unhappy other times. The human experience.

I think George really felt similarly when he saw himself as an indie creator in the ole days. The OT specifically, I mean George went way out of his way to make landscapes and sets feel extremely tangible and thus immersive. When he got into digital, these areas became less important to him it seems. Not to say we didn't have some incredible sets in the PT.

I liked this episode. It is looking highly likely that the Sith is Qimir. I hope he, himself, is just the Apprentice, though. Also, was that actually Ki-Adi-Mundi or just another member of the species?

The credits confirmed that it’s actually Ki-Adi

You should have immediately identified him by his dismissive statement that he thought someone being trained but not knowing who their master was to be absurd.... you know, despite, him once again being wrong. Classic Ki Adi Mundi.

As someone who barely remembered who Mundi was.... I googled him earlier and discovered that apparently there's people who just hate this guy? Some dude has a whole web page on why he's the worst jedi LMAO

Honestly, I kind of love stuff this insane

Apparently this episode, according to the writer, was originally part of Episode 5. For some reason, it was decided to split them in two, and Episode 5 was given the longer run time.

I just think such decisions are so unwise. Give us the longer episodes!

Also, originally in the script Kelnacca fought against the Sith, but they decided that it didn't fit with the "POV" of the episode well.

Yeah, I don't think "more fight scenes" is the solution. It needs more character-building scenes.

    I agree partially.

But my problem is that they split the episodes in two, knowing that E4 will then become the shortest episode of the season, and they don't take that opportunity to add some better character work and drama.

I thought for sure John Rocha and the people on his show on YouTube would love this episode especially the cliffhanger that really makes you cant wait to see what happens next week! They basically complained about the way the show was directed and complained about Filoni. I'm sure Rocha and his hosts know how to direct better rolls eyes Strawberry Shortcake LOL, 2 of the guys on Rocha's show make a Strawberry Short cake show for YouTube and Netflix but they think they're better creators then people at Lucasfilm LOL, From what I can see most on here are Enjoying this show and are having healthy discussion. Also of note Rocha and the media were negatively reviewing this show from episode one. We are in new territory here no Skywalkers all new characters we are in a new timeline don't know where there story is going may be the media should wait till after the first episode or 4th episode to judge this fully? Also I don't know about you all but I love Filoni he has done a great job with Star Wars learned from the best George Lucas!

[face_laugh][face_rofl][face_rofl] I think if i was going to watch Strawberry Shortcake I'd probably get the munchies from partaking in extracurricular activities to be able to actually get through An episode of SS
This shows me diversity in Visual effects styles mixing practical with CGI and Animatronics like how the ST did which makes it look more real and hard to tell what's practical and what's not!

I like the Geek Buddies, especially Michael Vogel, because they usually offer a pretty fair critique of shows. I was also surprised by how much they disliked this episode, but Vogel made some good points about the lack of drama and poor character motivation.

Nevertheless, I enjoyed the Jedi hike through the jungle even though it seemed boring to others. I agree the episode could have been more entertaining though, and more dramatic.

I think things they brought up like why Mae 360d on her decision to kill the Jedi an episode ago Rocha was complaining why Mae wants to keep this up when she knows her sister is alive so what is it Rocha? I can explain every one of the plot points why they make sense plus we don't know yet on most of it we are only halfway through. But I agree for all of them to agree the show stinks on a round table discussion may be have some desenting views. I liked the monsters Star wars always has monsters all the way back to A New Hope Empire The Return Of The Jedi and the Prequels! They should get Perri Nemiroff on the show she loved the first 4 episodes! I like Peri she does her 5 movie picks to watch at Regal Cinema and I agree with her most of the time she is fair!

Rocha actually defended episode 3 from what I saw. Campea and his team, Harloff, Mike K, Steph Sabraw, Robert Meyer Burnett....I mean most of the online pundits ive seen in the tv/film space are calling it a bad show. Jeremy Jahns. You name it really. Obviously opinions are subjective but the series has its detractors that much is clear. But I don't think it has anything to do with a lack of Skywalkers. I think most are ready to move on from Skywalkers.

With good writing, direction, and acting, a fight scene can be an excellent character-building scene. See Princess Bride, Zorro, or PotC for some great examples, and even some of the better SW duels.

I dunno about this show now. I absolutely LOVED episode 1 and 2. They had a super interesting and mysterious story growing with unique contrasting characters. But I feel like episode 3 and 4 threw a lot of that out the window.

Character motivations are really all over the place. There’s no way Mae should have suddenly turned good like that. There was absolutely zero impact for such an important moment.

I hope it somehow saves itself with the next episode, because I was really enjoying it.

I feel similarly. The first two were great. I'm not as interested after the last two. There's still time turn it around though.

The Mae thing definitely threw me off, but I'm trying to stay positive about it. I just want this show to do well.

I think Star Wars fans became spoiled because of Andor I never said it was because no Skywalkers I just meant it's unchartered territory we don't know what it's all about. But as for Andor ever since Andor fans want all Star wars to be dark and adult and for Star Wars to work it all has to be different there has to be diversity in content. I'm still waiting for a Star Wars Toy Story Pixar meets Lucasfilm ...

@Jordan1Kenobi but everyone was complaining when Mae wanted to still go through with it after knowing her sister was still alive after episode 2 so that was answered at the end of episode 4 if it's the abrupt nature of her decision what was Lucasfilm supposed to do make her grapple with the decision to do this the whole show people would have complained about that too you can never please everyone.

Fully agree we need diversification. I feel like Andor did a nice job of delivering that for the fans. But yes people seemed to really like the tone and so because it was so good, everything that comes out will now be compared to it.
