I watched theory for years but just found him OTT. He is also a frustrated filmmaker where the other guys just watch and enthuse not saying they could make better SW. Lots of fans play with their star wars toys different ways, just like directors of the last jedi and the Acolyte. Theory as a PT fan should know how much negative coverage hurts. People forget just how much they were hated. People have been hating on Star wars since the beginning.. ewoks etc even ESB wasn't loved immediately straight away by all fans

Fair enough. I'm not trying to imply he is holier than thou and can't be criticized. And again, I'm not trying to particularly defend him. I just thought it was a good example given the reaction that somebody mentioned they had towards his thumbnail versus what was actually said in that same video.

Inflammatory things get said by people on both sides. But I wouldn't look at some of the inflammatory things that were said by the people who created The Acolyte and judge them completely for it. And I think the same thing should apply to anyone else.

I don't have a problem with Acolyte beyond the standard ones would have with a show, goodness knows I prefer it over the just about everything else Disney Stars has shoved down our throats save for Andor, Rogue One, Ahsoka, Solo, Mando.

Yet it's extremely frustrating when Lucasfilm just doesn't seem to understand that we want stuff like this:

You don’t understand. He’s defending ALL OF US, and not just the fans, I mean EVERYONE on the planet, from the horrific insult to humanity that are bricks and screws in Star Wars. You owe him your life.

One through-line among SW YTers/influencers, whether positively or negatively inclined toward the new stuff, is the element of a parasocial relationship with the creatives and/or talent. So, Person X's disappointment regarding the Acolyte's cancellation is expressed through identifying in some way with the actor/actress playing a role (or Leslye Headland herself), as if that person knows them on some personal level. Or, Person Y's approval (or, more accurately, expression of schadenfreude) of the cancellation is distilled through some sort of takedown of Headland's or Kathleen Kennedy's perceived monolithic view of the world, again as if that person knows them on some personal level.

This is a generalization, of course, but my thought is it represents a generational divide. I grew up with the OT, and no one I knew growing up viewed SW through this lens. We didn't really care what Mark Hamill was up to aside from playing Luke Skywalker, and Harrison Ford was just a guy who inhabited several cool characters, and George Lucas was literally just a man with a beard, or one of the men with beards, e.g., Spielberg. Leia was a special character to some of the girls I grew up with, as seeing a badass female character was pretty rare back then. But I didn't know anyone who related to Carrie Fisher the person, as opposed to the character she played.

I'm not saying anything is "better" or "worse," just that I see a real difference in how SW (and I'd guess most media) is consumed. When the ST concluded, I'd see many tweets of basically the same thing: a clip of Ridley, Boyega, and Isaac doing some dance while not filming, with the tweeter more or less saying this is why I love the ST. I guess it was intended to link back to Fisher, Hamill, and Ford in the same way, but the concept is just pretty foreign to me, as explained above. I suppose my point is that passion of SW is personal in a different way nowadays. Again, a generalization -- and I suppose it's natural that YTers/influencers would channel their thoughts in this matter.

On topic of Acolyte S2, I'd didn't really enjoy S1 and can understand it not continuing. BUT! There are some really intriguing points left unexplored, and which should be explored!

I'm amused that the Forbes writer's autocorrect changed "Osha" to "OSHA". :p

Now it all makes sense. This show being cancelled is why Star Wars never has railings around its bottomless pits!

I don't want the Acolyte to be the lens through which we explore the tale of Darth Plagueis. I wouldn't be against fans of the show getting closure through season 2 even though it's not my cup of tea if not for the fact that it risks treading on lore that I actually do care about and would rather see tackled by a different creative team.

Velma got the same treatment. It still got renewed by HBO, because enough people watched it.
Acolyte was so mid (in my opinion god awful) that even the people that hate-watch shows had no interest in doing so. Thats why the viewership was so low.

More of a risk when the track record for those who would be custodians of the story is already subpar in Star Wars. So, I'd rather not see it told by the creative team that made the Acolyte.

Well you're in luck then. "The Acolyte" has been cancelled. Plagueis is saved. For now.

He did look pretty cool and just how I imagined him so that creative team did well in that, imo. The series wasn't perfect but if they'd not looked at nature of the force in a different way or had lesbian witches making the jedi looked as flawed as Lucas hinted at, it wouldn't of got as much crap from YouTube nutters..I loved all that
