Yes it is just like your opinion in wanting a book adapted. And it be all about Palpatine and we got enough of Palpatine.

Mystery box storytelling is just awful for Star Wars. It permeates the sequel trilogy, the Filoniverse live action stuff, The Acolyte. It’s less prevalent in Kenobi and Andor. We’re just constantly being strung along with vague suggestions that end up going absolutely nowhere. 10 years later and we still have barely any idea what Snoke was or how the First Order started or Palpatine came back.

In Ahsoka, it would have been awesome if Baylan Skoll had an exposition dump explaining what the “Great Witch Kingdom of the Dathomori” was and how it relates to the story or the geopolitical history of the galaxy. Or the great threat they are facing and want to flee from in the new galaxy. It’s treated like common knowledge to everyone in the show, yet the audience has no idea what it is and then they drop it and move on. “Something… bad… is happening… tune in next season to find out!”

Like just be committed to a plot for crying out loud! We just got an entire season of Acolyte “I’m a sith… but maybe not… but maybe I am? My master… did something… which caused me to do something bad… something that relates to you because you are something special… on this “unknown planet”, which is special because… uhhh, find out NEXT SEASON!”

then gets cancelled. Complete waste of time. Despite the maul tease, at least Solo felt like a complete story.

And this would be massively criticised for over explaining everything. Sometimes they can't win.

I want exposition in Star Wars again. The whole “it’s about the characters! And their journey!” Can only take you so far by itself. If you have literally no idea what world they are in and the factions and how they operate, there’s no stakes.

And you know what show does that well?

    ANDOR

There’s some mystery and intrigue to the nature of Luthen Rael, but it’s not the forefront of discussion, people talk about Luthen because he’s a ****ing awesome character who tells you exactly what his deal is in extremely long winded monologues

It's deeply disappointing this series won't be continuing. It had the most potential of any Star Wars series to date because it had the most runway to work with, and while the first season certainly wasn't perfect, there was a lot to build upon.

While I'm sure this story will likely continue in some fashion, the fact that it won't be a proper live action exploration will always make it feel lesser than what it could be.

No, it is still there. Now it will just be there available to watch like the other things that are already complete, like movies or other completed series.

This was a show with very mixed reviews, consistently dropping viewership, and a very high production pricetag. This news should not be a surprise. But I also think people need to kind of reassess what happened here. This was not really a "cancellation" in the harsh sense of that word. Instead, season 1 was completed. Season 2 had never been confirmed before. And instead of deciding now to do a second season, they decided not to.

Comparative to what? Tbh, I didn't really see where any high production costs would've gone; outside of maybe the big name actors like Carrie-Ann Moss and Lee Jung-jae.

According to John Rocha, plans for season 2 were greenlight but now cancelled. After the reception.

I do sympathize with fans of the show that it won't be continuing.

But I am personally glad this will not be the lens through which we'll be exploring the tale of Darth Plagueis the wise. I was indifferent toward the story of these particular characters continuing, but I would've been more amenable to the idea if it had simply been self contained and wasn't attempting to tie into the lore of the prequel films.

Well this was always intended to be a Prequel to the prequels.

Mystery Box storytelling in Star Wars is "we haven't figured it out yet"

Personally, I don't like it as that, so I'm glad it isn't continuing. If it was just a self-contained High Republic story, it would be a different story.

Unfortunate news. A second season would have been great to explore more of this era.

I don't know if I believe a word that guy says. Since he has left Collider he has been running an extremely small scale channel. And Sneider's inside knowledge (who seems to be his main source) can be questionable.

If anything cutting a story thread off after adding teases to the final episode of series 1 Is the worst thing they could do. especially if they are just going to say end it there and then be left with threads wide open and pointless.

That’s what cancelling means. It’s relatively uncommon for a show to be cancelled after ordering a new season. People are coping so hard with this, but guys, Acolyte was cancelled. Lol

I say let people cope or be in denial. Or be angry. There was so much (unnecessary) hate and vitriol for this show, that despite its flaws, had a mountain to climb for renewal. It isn’t surprising but yet still is after that sdcc and d23 push.

I can only think (and hope) that as the acolyte is cancelled, it resurfaces as something else. A true high republic show. Or sith show. Star Wars: Sith, or Plaguéis. I mean — Osha isn’t an acolyte anymore, she’s more an apprentice — so technically, the title doesn’t fit anymore.

anyway, I’ll remain cautiously optimistic. As Disney could revisit it and seems to have already invested money into it so might as well repurpose. But I’m sure it will be something that appeals to the masses (of toxic fans who trashed the show). Skeleton crew will be next to get it.

there’s an article online about the cancellation and I agree. It’s bitter because it feels like Star Wars doesn’t have much to say except replay greatest hits (empire empire, Jedi Jedi Jedi, sith sith, Luke, Death Star, mando, Obi-wan and Anakin, rebels seasons 5/6/7, and a 30+ year EU story retread/recasting).

Acolyte is pretty cliffhanger ending but not 100%. Qimir got his new apprentice, apparently at some point they die or kill each other or Plagueis kills both of them, and he gets Palpatine, the end

Yeah, pretty much. I'm guessing they will give it a novel or a limited comic series continuation.

I've just seen the star wars theory thumb nail of the Acolyte cancellation news with the caption...we won!
I will not open. It or any of his diatribe in future. I loved coming on here during the run as reaction here seemed more measured than on YouTube tho my favourite reacters liked it to but that guy among others has a lot of influence
