Okay, I've been developing banners for forums and I'm sure some of you have seen them about the boards. Photobucket been a bit of a bugger with bandwidth but found an alternative and got them operational again. Also means I can't really show off work until a month is over though I do have dA which I can use as an alternative.

There is a few things I would like to voice in here for your opinions... I want to get a bit a feedback about the format for a new discussion thread about Star Wars concept art. Would you rather it be structured that follows the production chronology like the Disney one? Or by sorted by artist or themes…. or an open forum where we pick a piece that we like/evoke thought and explore them?

Will also be bringing back the seasonal challenges again at the start of next month, more of an open format this time where a topic is given and there be free reign over the content produced within that topic.

Also, I've been thinking about the old Pictionary game we did with Census & Games back around 2011 and also the Sketch Jam it something like that be nice to break things up and exercise our skills.

I prefer an open discussion, personally.

As for image hosting... Imageshack is what I use. It's not free anymore, but I think it's worth the yearly fee for unlimited storage and bandwith.

Imgur is the best image host IMO

April has been a hectic month… I wouldn't know where to begin with all that has been happening with DRL, wild weather and such. Good news is that the image hosting issue been solved for the banners.

There are some ideas I am developing for this forum and will speak those thoughts out loud... I am trying to put together a 'MasterClass/Workshop' platform, a place where anyone (regardless of skill/medium) can be a part of and develop their style. I know that everyone has varying skills and mediums that we work with, some are not as comfortable as others so the structure should be flexible to accommodate that. Subject matter, that is another thing and can be tailored to suit the individual for what they want to get out of it. Progress can be displayed for constructive feedback from everyone.

I know that some sometimes get artistic block and there are some that believe they cannot draw but would like to and some who want to do something different for a change. Something like this can get the creative juices flowing. Let me know if you have any thoughts regarding that.

Perhaps provide a list of resources. Links to sites where people can go and learn on their own pace, such as CTRL+Paint. The internet has completely revolutionized autodidacticism, and it is my firm belief that absolutely anyone can reach a professional level in art in a few short years if they work hard enough and stay dedicated to their craft. The problem for many people is not knowing where to start. Most people already have at least a rudimentary understanding of drawing. That's something already. It's a foundation to build on. A GOOD foundation.

Thank you for your feedback ArtSchmo. I agree that anyone can draw and that it is a muscle that needs constant exercising.

Yes, there are some nice tutorials out there and of course the skills developed can attributed to being self guided, there is also something about having an outlet where there is someone there that can help guide or be on hand to provide feedback. Sometimes we get too close and don't have the luxury of viewing the piece with fresh eyes, maybe something is not working properly and feeling frustrated trying to pin point. Maybe there is something you wanted to try out or achieve but having difficulty with it and wanted someone that breaks it down and put it in a way that just clicks. Or maybe just want to socialise and draw together as a community and excited to see how someone sees something that is different from your own.

I know that we once had such a program here and it be nice to have that return and be a haven for creativity.

I redid my deviantArt last night. Got rid of my old stuff and started uploading newer stuff. Been thinking about going back to dA for a while and I finally remembered my old username and password.

That is looking great! I really love your sketch cards and Pokemon.

I need to do the same. When ever I go to upload a piece, the thing that is holding me back is trying to work out what to put down in the descriptions. Never know what to say.

deviantArt is definitely one of my "go tos", although, I've been gravitating towards Facebook a lot as well. Both seem to get you some decent exposure.

The site is currently blocked on my work servers, but I will check it out and add you when I get home this afternoon! :)

I just put down media used, subject, and any text that may be hard to read. Otherwise, I never know what to put down. "[such-and-such], whatever media on some surface" works fine.

Unless it's digital, where I just put in the subject.

WOOOOWWWWW digging this up from the dead...

So, this was a thing that happened.

Old Navy really doesn't need to be pissing off artists. We have sharp things. Very sharp things. X-Acto knives, various cutting implements, scissors, sharpeners, sharpened pencils, scraping tools for scratch board, carving tools, sculpting tools...

    Your thoughts?

    Heya! Happy New Year!

Hmmmm… if it was supposed to be tongue-in-cheek then they didn't handle it properly, especially to who they are designed for. I'm not familiar with the whole matter but if something like this affects one perception at an impressionable age that damages one's creativity and imagination then that is upsetting and should not be allowed.

I have heard worse during my studies and the prejudice about certain fields within the art side of things. They are narrow-minded about it all and possibly even jealous.

    Heya everyone!!

I hope all of you are going well. Time is going too fast, still thinking that it should be April still :p

With all the new ways of doing digital art, wanted to share this video of Glen Keane painting in the virtual realm. With virtual reality starting to become more accessible to the public on different devices, what do you think of it?

Also here is another one of my favourites of Glen Keane:

Next year is pretty important as it marks the 40th Anniversary of Star Wars: A New Hope… and also the 20th Anniversary of The Lost World: Jurassic Park

I wanted to ask how would you like to celebrate it? Banner contest? art challenges? Let me know as ideas and suggestions are always welcome.

Just checking in here after tonight´s events here in Germany´s main capital.

Of course the terrorist attack here in Berlin strikes us all hard, but none of my friends, acquaintances, colleagues and members of the local SW dinner PLUS the Film Fan Force seem to be hurt. All seem okay.

Just Thursday morning I told my group of kindergarten kiddies in our morning circle: "Love has a thousand and one faces. Hate has just one. God is love, not hate."

Only yesterday DarthUncle and I walked into an open Jewish Synagogue in Deventer/ the Netherlands. It stands on the grounds where the annual Charles Dickens Festival takes place. We peacefully spoke to the Rabbi, who did not mind me being German like many Dutch people. Some hours later we participated at the "Christmas-sing-along" with other festival visitors.

When I am back at work tomorrow, I will give the refugee child from Afghanistan a special hug. We hug each day and speak about his god and his traditions. I fought hard for him to get pork free meals and together with my fellow group teacher we got his parents a translator for the parental evening.

I will NOT drop my open-minded ways because fanatics - no matter from which religion - have a harsh view on life and god.

I respect the faith of others and teach all the children in my kindergarten group to be respectful and mindful!

May the Force be with all of us! Also with you, the fan artist community!

I am glad to hear that you and those you know are safe.

It is upsetting for such a thing to happen. It is just…. illogical that someone would do such a thing. All my best goes out to everyone affected.

It is sad and unfortunate that we have lost both Carrie Fisher and her mother Debbie Reynolds. All the best goes out to their family and close ones. The Force will be with you both.
