So my wife and I were having a debate. I've always heard that there is an unwritten rule that you don't wear a band's shirt to that band's show. If you're going to see Metallica, you don't wear a Metallica shirt. You should wear the band shirt outside of or at other venues to show your support for said band. My wife says I'm crazy. Has anyone else heard this?
I'm not sure why that's an unwritten rule; haven't heard about it at all. I mean I guess it makes sense if you fully intend to buy the band's shirt at the concert and wear it, but if you already have a nice shirt and don't necessarily intend on getting a new one, why not? I've definitely worn my Joan Jett shirt to her concerts, and I've been to several of them over the past five years. I even wore one to her concert at Citi Field (with Poison, Def Leppard, and Motley Crue), and wound up buying a new shirt of that tour anyway.
I've heard that and follow that guideline. I try to wear a tour shirt that feels like has enough overlap with the band I'm seeing (so like, I just wore my AC/DC shirt to Styx/Foreigner, but I'd not wear one of my more heavy metal shirts to that)
Oh this is definitely an adage, but I find it to be a totally stupid one..I almost always wear my band merch to concerts.
Yeah I've heard that but don't follow the rule nor do apparently very many other people based on my experience going to concerts.
i had never heard that before, but i also don't think i've ever owned a band shirt unless it was a friend's band.
It's definitely a "rule" I've heard for years, but one that I've seen many people break. Often the people who had even mentioned that rule before going to a show / concert ended up buying merch at that show and then wore it at that show.
I don't think that is a "rule" and if it is, it is one I never heard of. However, I don't wear any music related t-shirts when going to concerts. I dress depending on the time of season, and what artist. Like for Sting and Stevie Nicks, I wore a more dressed up looked. I wore a button down shirt. Funny enough I wore a yellow button down to Sting and he was preforming in a yellow button down. I couldn't ever do that again if I tried. For bands like Shinedown, Seether, Offspring I wore a more punk like style with jewellery to match. I think I wore a Callisto t-shirt to Seether with dark leather jewellery. You kinda want to stand out, a bit. You don't want to look like everyone else. And in my opinion wearing another band's shirt to concert seems wrong. Kinda like wearing a Target shirt while working at Walmart. Conflict of interest, at least to me. I also don't wear the merch I buy while at the show. I don't want it getting ruined. I guess it is not so much rules as it is preferences. When I saw Elton John, I wore a Darth Vader shirt with a bunch a music notes behind him (Plus Elton and Star Wars both came out in the 70's), and a green military jacket (it was in the fall).
So last night I attended the Alanis Morisette Triple Moon tour at Jones Beach on Long Island (Wantagh, NY). Morgan Wade opened for a half hour, followed by Joan Jett and then Alanis. My seats weren't the greatest (Mezzanine, but absolute first row, center), but I got a full view of the entire stage and the acoustics was just fine. I came wearing my Joan Jett shirt; there were far more Alanis shirts there; some people who'd obviously bought the tour shirt put it on during the concert. I didn't buy the tour shirt last night but I'll likely pick it up online elsewhere. They were selling bootlegged tour shirts in the parking lot, but at that point I just wanted to get out of there since I know it could get crazy. These are a couple of my videos.
She definitely played a wide selection of songs across all of her albums. To be honest, while I like her music and have her biggest chart toppers on my playlist (including Head over Feet), I wasn't really familiar with most of the songs that she played last night. You can see the playlist on my Concert Archives page for the show.
Tomorrow night’s DMB show, that my wife and I will be attending, can actually be viewed for free from the comfort of your homes. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I too was lucky enough to see them before. I saw them back in '22 at Fenway for the 50th Anniversary. When did you see them?
That sucks guys. Never got to see them myself and had considered going to this tour but guess it wouldn't have happened anyways. Couple weeks back I went to the Losserville tour up in Tinley Park (Chicago); the opening acts were Corey Feldman (yes that Corey Feldman), Riff Raff, N8NOFACE, and Bones...they were all...well they were something. Corey Feldman and his band were probably my favorite of them if that tells you anything. But then Limp Bizkit came out and absolutely rocked the place, it was awesome. My 3rd time seeing them and they have still got it (and no, absolutely no shame in admitting any of this). Then last Thursday took a trip to Cincinnati and kicked the trip off by seeing Foo Fighters at Great American Ballpark. Had field seats and they absolutely rocked my face off for the better part of 3 hours. Easily one of the best concerts I've ever been to. Oh and The Pretenders were the opening act and they were really good as well!
My brother's a ticket broker. According to him, he's bought tickets for Aerosmith concerts going back two years ago for what would have been their current tour. Obviously he's getting a good deal of money back in refunds over this. The only time I saw them in concert was way back in 2003, when they were touring with KISS and had a stop at Jones Beach. Now that was a heck of a concert for sure; just wish I had a Smartphone - or any camera on hand - to share pictures/video from it.
