It's no wonder United's younger players don't perform to their potential when the senior players who should be helping them & setting an example constantly fail.

Lindelof was at fault for 3 of the goals, he might as well have been replaced with a cardboard cutout. But he's the senior CB who should be looking out for the two teenagers playing on the left of defence instead of causing them more problems.
He's past it now, just like Eriksen who should not be playing as a CM in the pivot when he has no legs anymore & can't track runners.
Not sure why Mount doesn't play there, at least then Eriksen can be a 10 which he's better at with his passing range.

Mount only just back from injury so slowly building up his time as there's a greater risk of breaking down if rushed back.

The United match tonight was exceptional.

United excellent in the first half and totally off the boil in the second half and first half of extra time

Lyon garbage in the first half but in complete control in th second half and first half of added on time.

United then showed a level of spirit I've not seen since Fergie or Solskjaer (early days) were in charge

Yes Richie, there are still many flaws in there and you really need a striker but this team looks like it's going to play for Amorim.


Really enjoyable match for the non United fan.

 

Maguire is much maligned.

He had a couple of dreadful years in a poor United squad but is a very very good defender. He's never an 80m player and United over paid by 20 to 40m but never deserved the abuse he got.

I love seeing where he is now and think he would be someone normally classed as a great squad player in a City, Arsenal or Liverpool side but isn't quite good enough to be the main man.
Good to great player but not great to world class like VVD is. Far too many mistakes is him which are tempered by his goal threat.

 

He certainly does well in a back 3, although nobody around him protects his weaknesses enough since they're too busy making mistakes.
Still, with the mighty slab he's useful in these situations.

Bilbao are a major threat for you based on current form.

You "can" win but Amorim needs to get it right and the team need to follow.

The team appear bought into the Amorim tactic now and when I've actually managed to watch them play they broadly play well (until they don't) and the main issue now is inability to score goals.
You make chances but make wrong decisions
