it's wide open, especially the man utd /porto match! and the real /bayern match! and chelski /stuttgart and deportivo /lyon. arsenal /celta too! the only givens i think are, milan will win, juve will win, monaco will win.

    but, i'll take the bait.

porto (man utd, see chelsea), real madrid, chelski (if they're in form), lyon, arsenal(same as chesea), juve, milan, and monaco.

    My guesses:

    Bold for tonight only.

Red to progress to Quarter Finals.

    Tuesday 24th February
    Bayern Munich v Real Madrid
Celta de Vigo v Arsenal draw
    Lokomotiv Moscow v Monaco
    Sparta Prague v Milan

    Wednesday 25th February
Deportivo de La Coruña v Juventus draw
FC Porto v Manchester United draw
    Real Sociedad v Lyon draw
    Stuttgart v Chelsea

Generally, the last sixteen is fairly easy to predict. The majority of the favoured sides have the home leg last (how convenient). The draw makes sure that, barring a surprise, the favourites will progress.

It's the last eight where it gets interesting. :)

It's hard to predict United v Porto, as we (utd) are playing poo at the moment. I'd take a draw, and then we'll do em at OT. I hope Saha plays. He'll be well up for it, with it being his first Champions league game for United.

Let's hope Utd's defence holds up after we lost Ferdinand and Silvestre in the centre.

Ferguson has hinted that he might put keane in the centre of defence.

Yeah, maybe put Kleberson or Djemba-Djemba in the holding position and let Scholes roam for the attack.

I truly hope he doesn't play Djemba-Djemba or Kleberson, as they have both performed poorly since signing in the summer. Kleberson the more so. Nicky Butt does a decent job in midfield, although I wouldn't be surprised if Phil Neville starts in the middle of midfield.

Ferguson's biggest mistake this season was not buying a decent defender in the January transfer market. Wes Brown was just coming back from a long lay-off and wasn't guaranteed to start playing well, which has been the case.

I can't see Porto being a big threat. Although we haven't been playing well lately, we normally perform in the Champions League. When we get to the Quarter-Finals we'll start to struggle.

I hope Arsenal lose 10-0, have 4 players sent off, 4 players injured and Wenger sent from the touchline to the stands.

    They'll win about 2-0 though :(

(By the way, maybe the thread title could include "..& UEFA Champions League thread"

Yeah, the thread should be re-titled.

    How about:

"The Beautiful Game" - The Official YJCC Football (Soccer) Thread"

Unfortunately, soccer should be in the title to avoid confusion with the various NFL threads.

Bah, just keep it at "Football thread" or something.. why just concentrate on the EPL?

I agree with the Beautiful Game title. Because the Champions League is a major tournament, plus we have people from Germany, Italy etc around here, and they might want to talk about their leagues.

yeah, we have people from scotland too. who might want to talk about that top-notch domestic competition known as the spl!!! and the uefa cup chances of celtic v. teplice on thursday, hmmmmm. could the bhoys have another shot at cup final glory, and this time not get bad calls like the one against bobo balde last year? who knows, maybe we'll even make the champions league last 16, or at least not go out on goal difference again!

wow there is so much focus on man utd here.......last time i checked arsenal were on top. 7 points, and well deserved.

still undefeated, which is amazing. an excellent win away to celta this morning, havin never one in spain is another excellent result.

and with arsenal's money restraints compared to utd and chelsea, they must deserve respect for the brilliant football they play.

henry is simply quite astonishing. he is the most complete striker in world football today, i rate him alongside gonzalez of madrid. henry is better then ruud as a lot of ruud's goals are from pinching inside the box and penalties, yet henry can glide over the pitch with the ball at his feet and he delivers more assists. as i said, he is the complete striker.
