Yes, they had her speak with a posh accent which is not her natural accent. It is Alec guiness' accent though. I don't see any reason to change from one British accent to another unless it meant something.

That would make her exponential force learning curve more reasonable, that is some heavy force genes inherited if that is the case, just waiting to be activated.
If Kylo Ren understands who she really is, then that's why he makes the statement about her powers growing stronger faster.

The reason Luke exists is because Anakin was too old to be trained. Therefore he didn't completely adhere to the jedi teachings and got married/had kids.

Luke is the same way. He was even older.

Ben kenobi would have been signed up for jedi training way earlier. that's why he's always warning Anakin not to get involved. Because HE hasn't gotten involved. He's a real Jedi. He wouldn't have gotten anyopne pregnant.

I think the fact that Luke was older makes him a bit more confused and prone to mistakes. That's what he's afraid of and that's why he's hiding. He's protecting Rey... his daughter. When she finds him, that blows the whole thing apart.

Obi wan is the model of what and old republic jedi should be. He wouldn had any offspring. It would be out of character.

The old republic Jedi made many mistakes, if you're the only one left would you not reconsider some of your thinking of some are your rules, if they were one of the reasons for galaxy wide turmoil? What would be out of character for him would be a complete lack of reflection and not reconsidering some things.

Even IF Obi-Wan did rethink some of the old Jedi teachings re: family etc, he would have had plenty of time to think it over... in the remotest part of a remote planet. His entire mission was about looking out for/training Luke he didn't really have the time for a bit of romance on the side... and even if he did, I can't really see exactly where the potential Mama Kenobi comes into the situation. Either he would end up not knowing/caring about his child (out of character even without the Jedi thing) OR he had a family all along that somehow wasn't mentioned or ever referred to in any way shape or form. Neither of those sound like good writing to me. Just a way to make everything revolve around the genetics of a few families... in a galaxy with millions of species.

the order failed exactly because of the opposite

trainning anakin was against the protocol. and anakin doomed them.

and anakin himself turned to the darkside because of this...

the lesson that a jedi must not develop attachments is there for anyone who wants to read it.

Obi Wan had a relationship with Duchess Satine Kryze of Mandalore, as confirmed in TCW. One that was apparently serious enough that he admitted that, if she had asked him to, he'd have "gladly" left the Jedi Order to be with him.

Nope. No Kenobi descendants, no secret children from Mr. White Knight who's always nagging Anakin about the Code and whatnot. That was Anakin's story, let it stay that way.

Big problem with the idea of Luke finding Obi-Wan's journal and learning a big secret: He's already done that in the ongoing Marvel comic series, and if you aren't into comics, he surely would have discovered and mentioned it when he was building his new lightsaber from Obi-Wan's spare parts before ROTJ. Two different canonical sources place Luke in Kenobi's hovel after his death. Any secrets left behind by Obi-Wan would have been discovered 30 years before TFA.

I wouldn't be surprised if Obi Wan had a kid. Like many wrote he had a thing with a woman he loved so much he was willing to leave the Jedi order, so what was to stop him once The Jedi Order was gone.

Heck, I even read somewhere, his mentor Qui Gonn had something on the side. So if his trainer had an affair it's not to farfetched for Kenobi to do it, himself.

The smart money is still on her being Luke's daughter but I really like this theory. It re-frames the saga as one where the Kenobis have to clean up the Skywalkers' mess and the sequel trilogy as a battle between the grandson of Skywalker and the granddaughter of Kenobi.

There are a lot of options for when Kenobi had a child. The most likely is between ROTS and ANH. However, if we really want to dive down the rabbit hole, there is the most unlikely scenario where Kenobi and Padme had a child between TPM and AOTC…

The main reason I do not buy Rey being Lukes daughter is its so obvious and pointed to everyone and their gram is saying it. At the same time the movie is making Rey's lineage this big build up and mystery. If that's suppose to be the big surprise in Episode 8 than it will be pretty weak.

At the same time if it's so blatantly obvious how come it was never out and out said? If the audience was suppose to be let in on it it would have been revealed at some point in the story? It just doesn't add up? I really think this whole father & daughter idea is a classic misdirect.

It's a plausible theory. But regarding the accent, it's far more likely that she acquired it from Unkar Plutt. Who spoke with an English accent...

Yea...except, what some describe as "out of character", I call "much appreciated added dimension". Obi-Wan was Mr. Secrets, Mr. Play Everything Close to The Chest, Mr. More Than Meets The Eye, Mr. Never Tell You More Than He Wants You to Know. His character suggests to me that he could handle the threat of loss far better than Anakin. Besides, I think Obi-Wan and Yoda likely both loosened up quite a bit after their repeated communion with Qui-Gon's ghost. I think he had a lot to teach them about the force that defied their rigid adherence to the code.

To me, it's one of the stronger theories. It links Rey to classic iconography by having her tied to a major saga hero-increasing audience buy in, but isn't as expected as her being a Skywalker, so is a twist most won't see coming. I feel there's quite a bit to go on...

The Accent- I think that this was a deliberate artistic choice to link her to Obi-Wan- the only other good human character with a British accent. Sure, there are realistic ways she could have picked up the accent, but it seems like artistic shorthand to me.

Her Solitude on a Desert World- JJ said this was a clue to her identity. Obi-Wan himself was also in solitude, and had to survive, unaided on a harsh planet.

Her Outfit- the same color scheme as Obi-Wan, with a simple, monastic look that seems like an embryonic, makeshift, ragamuffin take on Kenobi's traditional robes...though to be fair, her outfit does have things in common with Luke and Anakin's desert wear.

The Lightsaber- it called to her...perhaps not because she is a Skywalker, but because it was in Obi-Wan's possession for longer than Anakin and Luke combined.

The Vision- Obi-Wan is the only character to address her by name in the vision. "Rey, these are your first steps..."

Jedi Mind Tricks- Obi-Wan's Jedi mind trick is the first Jedi power we saw back in 1977. It's the first power Rey tries out (on a Stormtrooper again)as her abilities awaken.

The Sneaker- Finn and Han go to rescue Rey, but instead find her sneaking around on an enemy battle station, stealthily avoiding Stormtroopers much like Obi-Wan on the Death Star.

Narrative Symmetry- Rey and Kylo could be continuing the battle of their grandfathers, on ice (Starkiller), instead of on fire (Mustafar). On a battle station (Starkiller, again), not unlike The Death Star.

Vader-"...I was but the learner, now I am the master!" Ren-"You need a teacher!"

Obi-Wan closes his eyes, calms himself and draws on the force before Vader strikes him down (making Kenobi more powerful). Rey closes her eyes, calms herself, and draws on the force, allowing her the power she needs to defeat Kylo Ren.

A Kenobi taught Luke Skywalker, now Luke Skywalker will teach a Kenobi...after she returns to him the lightsaber that her own grandfather gave him decades before.

Han feels Obi-Wan is an old fool, and that The Force is "nonsense." In an interesting reversal, Han likes and respects Rey, tells her The Force is real, and in a way becomes her "Obi-Wan", a mentor whose death she also witnesses, while screaming "Nooooo!"

Her Personality- Rey is (mostly) calm and confident (qualities that help exponentially in mastering the force), not greedy or arrogant. Stern but encouraging. A fighter, but a gentle soul.

^I don't think Obi-Wan needs "dimension" this way. Having a relationship / kids in secret was Anakin's story. It's not only out-of-character, it's unoriginal.

Also, I think Rey's super Force powers could partially be explained by her parentage, and being a Kenobi isn't a good enough explanation, IMO. And being both a Skywalker and a Kenobi seems rather contrived.

Discovered yes, but with everything else Luke needed to take care of he didn't have time to try and find Kenobi's kin until.. 14 years before TFA

Why WOULD Obi-Wan have mentioned this to Luke?

Rey may or may not be Obi-Wan's granddaughter, but I think it makes more sense that Obi-Wan wouldn't have told Luke about this hypothetical family.

Fair enough. Agree to disagree. I think there are ways to give Obi-Wan offspring in ways that don't go against his character and can be done in a compelling way that is different from Anakin's story.

No, it's an English accent. Southern England, too. Seemingly just a deep-voiced Received Pronunciation (translation: posh). Quite similar to Rey's, really.

I agree with all of these points. I'm almost convinced that Rey is Kenobi's granddaughter at this point.

Also it seems like you and I watched the same YouTube video on this theory.

(Assuming it wasn't your video that I watched tonight.)

Yeah-maybe that's just the Jakku accent. Most everyone on Tattoine spoke with an American accent, but on Jakku they have RP type accents.

I can't buy her as Kenobi's granddaughter because the only woman Obi-Wan would consider having a child with, IMO, was Satine and she was sadly murdered.
