On the one hand, I wonder if she wasn't acquitted because of the CSI effect. There was certainly enough circumstantial evidence to suggest she was guilty of something to do with the death of her child.

On the other hand, I'd much rather live in a society that occasionally lets a guilty one free than convict an innocent person despite the State not proving its case.

Finally, like someone on FB said, If Caylee Anthony weren't an adorable white girl we wouldn't be talking about this.

What, someone acting like something didn't happen? It's almost like she's denying reality, or something. What kind of crazy situation would that happen in?

    Oh, wait.

A day like today reaffirms my continuing practice of never reporting/ignoring my jury duty summons.

I agree with the jury's decision. There's more to the story than Casey is telling, but there's not enough proof to convict her.

I still don't understand why this is making national headlines, though.

    Yes.

    Yes.

The Brian & Dani rule of agreement has been invoked. The two above statements are infallible.

BTW I had to laugh out loud when Nancy Grace went on a long-winded rant tonight about how much money Casey Anthony's going to be able to make from book deals and interviews now with the media blitz surrounding her since, near as I can tell, Nancy Grace is primarily if not solely responsible for that media blitz.

    From the neck up.

Yes, I think she got away with murder, and will walk away to a long and party life.

    Skank.

Casey Anthony has never lived in reality, even when the kid was alive.

    - Stated that the child's father was a guy killed in a car accident.
    - Stated that the child's father was her own brother
    - While daughter was alive, she told one boyfriend that her parents were moving and giving her their house. She was going to live there with Invisible Nanny Fernandez-Gonzales and an Invisible Best Friend named "Juliette Lewis". (put in quotes as to avoid confusion with the living breathing actress Juliette Lewis.)
    - She met Invisible Best Friend "Juliette Lewis"
    - Invisible Nanny Fernandez-Gonzales was critically injured in a car accident while on a trip with Casey Anthony to Tampa. Casey Anthony was not in Tampa, but was revealed staying at a friend's apartment in Orlando on the date in question.

Basically....this girl needs to be in an asylum.

    This.

The only part I don't understand is how she isn't guilty of any crime for not reporting or caring about her missing daughter for a whole freakin month. Wouldn't that constitute abuse, regardless of whether or not she committed the murder? Or can she still be charged with negligence or something in civil court?

I haven't followed the case at all. But I was merely trying to point out that denial is a pretty common psychological reaction. In fact, it's been a feature of a few of these cases with relatively young suspects that come up with hare-brained schemes to hide the murders.

I'd say that alone doesn't suggest much about guilt or innocence.

The next scheduled such event is December 21, 2012. Make of that what you will.

I have flatly refused to watch Nancy Grace since the Duke rape case.

I didn't want to "out" you without permission. [:D]

Hate to say I told you so but I DID!

I actually thought she would have gotten one of the lesser charges like manslaughter.

This could actually be better in some way. Where is Casey going to go? Will she just go out and get a job like nothing happened? Not likely.

She needs to disappear, Change her entire appearance and perhaps learn an accent and lose that tattoo! Find a little town in nowhere USA. Just about her only option.

So her sentence this morning was 1 year for each count of contempt (lying in court), and $1,000 fine for each count of contempt (lying in court) - there were 4 counts. Less "time served", and throw in good behavior and all that, she could end up getting less than someone caught with marijuana on a first offense in some states. Apples and oranges, yes, but still some perspective.

Wow. She can get that off the first 30 minutes of sales of the book I'm sure someone will pay her for.

I can only hope she suffers a serious...accident...sometime before next week. One that may involve her head being separated from her neck. Unlikely to happen but, hey, such a stroke of divine justice might rekindle my faith in...something.
