A couple of things to note- one, being altered to take orders/be more docile is not the same as having specific orders wired into their DNA, so your argument hasn't been consistent and/or is actually what the EU has stated anyways, so no need to take the tone you've had here.

Second, while the EU is not treated as absolute canon here (as opposed to the Literature forum, for example), it is not fully disregarded in this forum as it has ,and will apparently continue to, influence the series in some form or another. It's up to the individual user to judge how much consideration to give it here, but neither is someone outright wrong for leveraging it. Much like the TV series itself, this forum is something that exists between the movies and the EU and uses a little bit of both :).

LOL. Still didn't work for me though the way it kept popping up over the top of the ridge. How could they not have seen it. They had scouts positioned around the camp and even if they hadn't it seemed very noticable... especially for Obi-wan and Cody and Ghost squad.

A really good episode. Again this was one of those episodes were it wasn?t necessarily one of my favourite episodes of the series, but it was one of the best made on several levels(writing, characters etc..)

I was really surprised that I didn?t find the little girl or that plot annoying at all.

I hope we will se the two clones again, they were enjoyable characters. I wish they had been Echo and Fives though, I think that was definitely a missed opportunity. We need individual clones to reappear, not just Rex and Cody.

Obi-Wan with the animals was "incredible".

This one moved me quite a bit more than the previous installment. I'd anticipated them going for that Aliens feel, and was proved on the money, even if they gave Numa a happier ending than Newt ever got.

Having Waxer and Boil (not Boyle:confused:) discover Numa first rather than Obi himself. They sort of became the main characters and I really had no idea what was going to happen to them. It gave the episode a palpable tension. Their difference of opinion nicely underscored the idea of clone individuality in general. But how could you not love Numa?[:D]

Man, Obi-wan was at the top of his game against those gutkurrs! Not to mention his guiding the droid poppers. And locking up that battle droid who was lamenting his position in "life" was pure win!

    "Does not compute!" [face_laugh]

I look forward to seeing Mace in action next week. And after that... Cad Bane = AWESOME! At least so far. It's like they knew a bunch of us were waiting for a new credible villain and are saving the best for last. Can't wait!!

Thanks for verifying that so I didn't have to go looking for a clip... that note in the episode guide rather confused me and had me second-guessing my memory of old-school BSG.

The shared characteristic of the tactical droids and the old Cylon centurions is actually the fact that they're monotone vocoders... and the weird part about that is that the battle droids in TPM and AOTC used that treatment as well. They sounded a *lot* like centurions, just pitched slightly higher. Then in ROTS they suddenly had pitch and inflections in their voices.

Soundwave's voice is actually some kind of polyphonic chordal vocoder thing-- it does have varying tones, but they're varied artificially. I'm sure someone else can explain this better, but that's the basic deal, I think.

I agree. Don't just give the guys personality and then toss them aside. Bring them back!

Completely agree! Echo, Fives, Waxer and Boil coming back in future episodes is a must! We have been endeared to these clones, and we would automatically care for them when they reappeared. Sad to say, but it would make any of them dying much more powerful than another random clone.

That little kid was very cute!

I'm enjoying this story arc so far. But one thing annoys me: where is AAyla?!?!

I mean this is her planet, her people. So why isn't she there?

Attachments or not. Aayla is a native of that planet. She knows the planet, she knows the people, language customs etc. It seems like it would have been more logical to send her.

I agree that the Council could have believed that having Aayla there might have been problematic since emotions could have gotten in the way of her carrying out a mission. It's not far fetched to reason that.

Maybe this has been addressed in EU I'm not familiar with, but since all Jedi were given to the Jedi as babies (up to toddlers?), why would Aayla be especially familiar with the planet?

Curiosity might well have filled her in on a lot of details, but she would have no first hand knowledge of the planet, would she?

Maybe ....maybe not. IIRC, she left when she was a toddler. But she also goes back on a covert mission. hell, they could have also used her for undercover work during the Battle to free Ryloth.

For some reason that aspect of Jedi culture has always interested me. It seems that, since they come to the temple so young and sever all family ties, all of the Jedi have more in common culturally with each other as Jedi than they do with their own species. I think that could lead to some interesting stories... for example, imagine Ahsoka and Shaak-Ti doing an undercover mission to the Togruta homeworld, maybe posing as mother and daughter: neither of them would really know the culture except for as "historical texts". Same thing with any given alien Jedi. Hell, Obi-Wan can speak Twi'Lek language-- maybe Aayla can't!

Watched this episode again waiting for part 3 to start.

Obi-wan had a couple of good moments, like when he force hoped behind the rocks and then used the force to direct the bombs the clones threw onto the droids. And when he was juking around the wild beasts after luring them away from the troopers.

The commando droids were well used and effective. Funny "hahahahahha" line and "does not compute." Good droid humor there.

Think my biggest problem is the slow pace and it's because of the directing. Also, Wat's not as enjoyable to me when he's not adjusting his vocal processor like in AOTC.

Better than part one, still not the best episode by far

I liked this episode quite a bit. :) It was interesting to see the clones sort of cut off behind enemy lines, then running into this Twi'lek girl and trying to keep her safe. But she turned out to be a big help to them with her knowledge of all the ways to sneak around the local villages. :)

The separatists were being real low lives sticking innocent locals near their weapons to protect them from attack. Reminds one of other scum in the middle-east who use human shields in just the same way in various conflicts.

One of the best parts was Obi-Wan influencing all those animals at the same time to calm them down until they could be safely contained. Very impressive display of force powers by Obi-Wan. :) And the raid by Obi-Wan and the clone troops once they got inside the droids' perimeter was cool. :) It was also fun when the Twi'leks tore that droid leader apart. :)

Ouch, have forgotten to post for a while.

Anyway, I liked this episode. Even got a little touched when the girl started crying :p

It had some good moments and really nice animation. The only thing I didn't like was that there was no real need for Obi-Wan, couldn't it have been Aayla or somebody else instead? They have this golden opportunity to show off more Jedi than just Obi-Wan and Anakin and they don't take it :(

Aayla's absence from the show was explained by Dave Filoni's in this week's Homing Beacon email newsletter (#267):

That's not to say the episodes have conquered all limitations of time and budget. The production cycle
for a weekly series will always mean original story ideas will need to be constrained by production
realities. Though they are airing near the end of the season, the Ryloth episodes are actually the 15th,
17th and 19th produced. The absence of Aayla Secura is felt by Twi'lek fans, but there is a good reason
    she isn't in this arc.

"We didn't have her at the time," explains Filoni. The two episodes of season one that feature her -- "Jedi
Crash" and "Defenders of Peace" were produced after the Ryloth arc (episodes 22 and 24 respectively).
"Aayla was originally in the initial outline. She was actually already on the planet. She had been an infiltrator
behind enemy lines. We had a whole plot line about that. We had to abandon it, because it was simply just
a matter that we didn't have the manpower to get that many new characters done. When you see new things
in The Clone Wars you haven't seen before, that's a large amount of work by a lot of people in a very short
    amount of time."

I should also mention that when I was hired to write the episode, it was scheduled to be #11. Additionally, the original outline I was given called for a big tank battle between Republic and Separatist forces. That idea was later dropped because of the expense of creating the damage to the tanks when they were rammed by other tanks. The tank models had been created as complete, working tanks. Bashing them up would have required building "bashed up" models, for which there was no budget.

Likewise with the big worm critter that was in the original draft. Instead, it was replaced by the smaller beasties. It's just a guess, but I bet those were the same models used for the Twi'lek's mounts in the following episode, but with different skins on them.

It was an interesting experience working on the script, and I'm really thankful to Henry Gilroy for giving me the opportunity. Still, there's nothing to match the freedom you have in comics. Need a bashed up tank? Costs no more than a working one!

Thanks, Randy, good to know. Obviously the reviews were generally highly positive for this episode. ;)

I'm wondering if people are going to start re-watching TCW in the actual "chronological" timeline.

We've heard from Kevin Rubio and from Gilroy and Filoni about budgetary constraints and the writing process.

The show has worked well, but sometimes I wish they had more to work with, as well as a straight 30-minute runtime, rather than the standard 22-minute.

But, I think she can. because she sure as hell did when she went undercover & encountered her
relatives. She listened to them, & spoke to them She knew them even though they didn't know her.

It would be interesting to see Ashoka & Shaak-Ti in a mission together.

I was wondering where I'd read that. Thanks Randy! Great job on this one!

In-universe, I'd imagine Aayla was tied up on another mission.

I'd love to see an Ahsoka/Shaak-Ti team-up in a future episode!
