Eh, I have a bad feeling about TCW visiting so many places. Like in Children of the Force, it was way too much, and it didn't work out. They rushed and it made the whole thing bleh.

    Ugh..Sy in this episode. [face_tired]

"Love comes in all shapes and sizes."- These fortune cookies are getting worse and worse. For an action/adventure looking episode, that fortune cookie sounds not at all actiony/adventurish.

    Looking forward to Nal Hutta.

Cad Bane Faces-Off Against the Jedi and the Hutts!

    <img src="http://www.starwars.com/theclonewars/huntforziropreview/huntweekly_img.jpg">

After being freed from a Republic prison by bounty hunter Cad Bane, Ziro the Hutt finds himself wanted by the shadowy Hutt Council. Ziro makes another daring escape with the help of singer Sy Snootles, but Bane is hot on his trail -- as are Obi-Wan Kenobi and Jedi Master Quinlan Vos. It's a galaxy-wide "Hunt for Ziro" -- and it airs at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT Friday, November 12 on Cartoon Network.

On both sides of the episode's titular hunt is veteran voice actor Corey Burton, who provides both Bane's laconic drawl and Ziro's high-pitched theatrics.

"It's actually easier to keep character voices distinctly separate, the greater the differences are in vocal placement, timbre and pitch," says Burton, who also provides the rich baratone voice of Count Dooku in the series. "When you've got voices that can be segregated, differently textured and expressed in differing musical rhythms, it's a snap to make a clean break from one character to another. Then, applying acting characterization -- visualizing the unique 'soul' of the character within the parameters of voice -- you really can speak as two entirely separate beings within the same imaginary space."

With its bizarre juxtaposition of such disparate characters within the episode, "Hunt for Ziro" is a strange journey down the rabbit hole -- a peculiar departure from the series' military campaigns and political underpinnings.

"The Ziro episodes seem like a multi-room extension of the original Star Wars cantina scenes -- an eccentrically comedic undercurrent to break from the steadier drumbeat of galactic conflict, but with enough sinister gravity to tug at the direction of the entire storyline," says Burton. "It's a sort of 'Bizarro World' funhouse mirror dimension, a wrong turn down a strange alley running along the mainstream militaristic highway. It's a colorful flight of fancy and insanity, to lend a contrasting air of 'normalcy' to the central story construct. Ziro's the ultimate spoiled brat, a bitterly resentful and unreasonably demanding megalomaniac -- made even more threatening and duplicitous by his inability to inspire fearful obedience like his rival, Jabba."

Contrasting Ziro's villainous frustrations is Bane -- cold, cruel and quintessentially capable. Even tasked with a bounty that might seem eccentrically whimsical, Bane never falters in the dogged and dangerous pursuit of his quarry.

"Bane is a cold-blooded 'Spaghetti Western' movie bounty hunter -- an unflappable contract mercenary who goes about his assignments with ruthless steely-eyed disregard for the damages inflicted to life and property," says Burton. "He has a stoic tolerance for pain and Jedi mind-control tricks, and tireless reptilian patience. But he is not a particularly sturdy or athletically powerful creature, relying on mechanical aids and sharply honed wits for endurance and safe survival outside of his native environment. Bane is definitely an all-time favorite for me -- from his striking design to his iconic and potent personality. There's such a playground of speech characteristics in his palette that make him a continuing series of spontaneous discoveries. It feels like a very personal original co-creation I can feel proud to be a part of."

GG, EVERYONE in the GFFA can use a lightsaber, don't you know? [face_whistling]

Looks like this episode is going to be played for laughs, based on what Burton is saying.

Aww, when I first saw the fortune cookie, I thought that all of the tension between Ziro and Bane was finally going to be realized!

Then I read the description, and I was disappointed. :(

I'm hoping both Bane and Ziro bite the dust in this one. Obi Wan is too late to save Ziro and then Quinlan Vos kills Bane.

    We need a darker episode.

    EDIT:

That IS Ziro's body in the preview clip. Unless he's knocked out or something... I hope not.

I'm thinking that first one might come to pass.

I don't want Bane dead though. He's too good of a character to be killed like this.

 And why shouldn't they be able to? Its just a sword, one made of energy that only a select kind can use to its fullest potential yes, but a sword none the less. I mean the way you guys act is as if theres some sort of fundimental law that says a non Force sensitive can't use a lightsaber ever, or they shall be struck by Force lightning. But how hard can it be to just use a few basic sword swings with a lightsaber? I'm not talking about what the Jedi do, I'm talking simple fundamental fencingish styled movies that anyone with basic motor skills can pull off, with say a stick for example, and then apply to a lightsaber if their careful as all hell and try not to do any of the fancy moves the Jedi do. Stuff that Cad Bane will most likely be using because, ya know, he aint Force sensitive. And would it really help if Bane was using a blade made of Phrik or Cortosis, cuz knowing both you and GGrivious you'd complain about THAT just as much as with villains temporarily using lightsabers, in distinctly NON JEDI WAYS because they ARE NOT EXPERTS in its proper usage and only know how to use it as a regural sword (the shapesifter) or as a glowing stick (the thief from Lightsaber Lost). Dave even pointed that out in one of the episode commentaries in season 2 for goodness sake!

Also GARTH, excatly where the heck did you get the idea that this is going to be a comedy episode played for laughs? Don't the clips... give the complete opposite tone to 'comedy', I got a more action/adventure vibe from the clips if nothing else.

We'll probably get prequel episodes with Bane in them anyway. I think Quinlan Vos killing Bane would be a perfect sendoff for Bane and a perfect introduction for Quinlan...

We know Vos gets knocked out at some point in the battle and both Obi Wan and Bane use his lightsaber at some time... maybe Kenobi could force Bane to surrender, then when he gives Vos his lightsaber back he kills him while he's down.

Perfect introduction for a new villain.

The lightsaber has always been shown as the weapon of a Jedi, "not as clumsy or random as a blaster, a more elegant weapon for a more civilized age".

IIRC, the only time in the OT a non-Jedi uses a lightsaber is when Han uses it to open up the dead Tauntaun.

No average TCW character should be able to confront a Jedi with it, but then, the PT and TCW have cheapened the Jedi in general, so why should I get angry when every villain-of-the-week (Cassie Cryar, I'm looking at you) can use it?

As far as "played for laughs", did you read the interview with Burton? It's pretty clear that it's a light-hearted departure from the usual "serious" battle and political episodes.

I agree completely with you, Garth. I don't want Bane to use the lightsaber, and no it's not hard to activate one. There's a nice red or black button on most hilts. (Cassie was just nonsense). Basically Lucas has weakened the Jedi for his own purposes. Jedi cannot fight without their lightsabers, and it's apparently "their life."
After all, the only Jedi in TCW we've seen that can go Jackie Chan on anybody without a lightsaber is Ahsoka. [face_tired]

So Obi Wan vs. Pre Vizsla doesn't count? (Though its been some time since I've seen that fight I'm pretty sure we saw Obi using some good old punching action in that fight) What about the moves that one Jedi master landed on Savage Oppress? That was some clear punching right there.

Go ahead and rewatch Ahsoka endlessly defeating people with her hands and feet, then go watch that one Jedi fail miserably. He's a typical redshirt, while our Mary Sue stays "awesome."
