Going forward, the crawls for each “strand” of movies should have a specific color, and a different key for the music.

I don’t necessarily think Rogue One and Solo need to have “special editions” or re-releases, but I’d be curious to see if Lucasfilm would consider editing future releases of them to include opening crawls for the sake of consistency.

I didn’t mind the standalones not including the crawls to separate themselves from the episodic films, but like a lot of people here have mentioned, I think it’s such a staple of the franchise at this point that not including it would take away part of the excitement of seeing a Star Wars film on the big screen. With Rogue One and Solo, they were clearly still figuring out what to do with the one-off films, but I think going forward, they should just commit to using the crawl and reserving it for films and not shows.

Star Wars movies should have crawls. That's part of the unique identity of SW.

It would be weird and wrong to hear Top 40 radio hits in SW movies and it's weird and wrong not to have the crawl.

I love the crawl. It was cool that it was only for the Skywalker saga, but with all the shows now and the rest to come, I like the idea that it would be in all movies.

Having said that, however, when they said it was coming back, perhaps they only meant it would be in the new Rey movie because it will be episode 10?

    This.

I agree the films that are part of a series, or in some way a direct line from/to the "Skywalker Saga" should have a crawl. I'm ecstatic that it will be coming back! There's nothing quite like being in the theater, seeing a SW movie for the first time, hearing the fanfare of the main theme blast out at us, reading the words, and ultimately wondering what the screen will be panning down (or up) to!

I also enjoyed the opening scripting for Solo. I wouldn't mind if every non-series connected (not sure what to call them really, but I'm sure ya'll know which ones I mean) SW film would have that!

Yes. And the 20th Century Fox fanfare. Disney owns the thing (as well as the rebranded 20th Century Studios), so it's a real misstep not to use it for SW films.

It doesn’t matter if Disney owns them 20th Century Studios doesn’t distribute the films so you can’t put the fanfare in front of them.

No, they clarified that it would be in all movies going forward.

It is a persistent time for the Crawl.

Leaders of the Corporate Entity known as LucasFilm
have realized that the audience loves reading short updates
on how the story is continuing.

Backed by the Galactic Disney Empire, the Crawl will be
included in all new movie entrees, thus giving continuity
    between movie projects...

@DarkGingerJedi Disagree will finally get to see Luke's severed hand flying thru space except no lightsaber:

And so they are going to bring back Rey and have the next film in the forward timeline take place 15 years after TROS, bring back the crawl but it isn't an episode? Okay.......

I know of nothing that would forbid that familiar sound, which is part of SW's aesthetic, from playing. The 20th Century Studios title card doesn't have to appear.

That music is the 20th Century Fox Fanfare, it can't just be played anywhere for nostalgia's sake. In every movie it's appeared before (which is a lot more than just SW), the music goes with the graphics (the 20th Century Fox logo).

I maintain that they wrote Solo with the writers fully intending to be a crawl and then it got changed into title cards along the way. (probably by LFL brain trust wanting to keep the crawls for the ST) But you read it, it looks like a SW crawl text but maybe missing a paragraph. But it even has the CAPTIALIZED LETTERS for people and objects.

So yah it's basically just been R1 without it. Which I think works for the abrupt opening musical sting.

Not every crawl has capitalized words. It’s only every other film that has them. That’s one thing the ST got wrong.

I'm so happy the crawl is coming back, opening crawls are just part of the Star Wars DNA, I understand why they maybe wanted to only have the crawl for the Skywalker Saga films and I think Rogue One and Solo were fine without one, I'm just happy they are going to be making a comeback. Hopefully, they hit us with some really good ones, I'm especially hyped to see what the crawl for the New Jedi Order film would be like. Really hype stuff, can't wait.

That and they went a little overboard with it, capitalizing multiple key nouns throughout the crawl. I believe only one noun per crawl was capitalized for Episodes II, IV and VI, right?

There's a logic to the capitalization of words in Star Wars crawls? the HELL you say!

I'm sure the RETURN OF THE CRAWL in these new movies will be as multiple as they were in Episode 7-9

I think I’m okay with non Skywalker saga films having the crawl now. Just no Episode numerals for them. Unless they do that for Rey’s film?

If I had to bet on it, we will never see episode numbers of any kind in a star wars movie ever again.

And quite frankly, they should’ve never been there in the first place…

From now on, the new saga films will have letter designations. And the nerds will be up in arms because they're not in aurabesh.

If we do absolutely have to have numbers again for some sorta “new saga” or whatever, I’m fine with “Part I” or “Chapter I,” to distinguish it from the Skywalker “Episodes.” But honestly they should just do away with numbers altogether.
