Well, speaking as a modest console gamer, from what I've been able to see/learn about the whole Next Gen thing, I think it's all very, very, very unexciting. For the next year/year and a half, the 360 and PS3 are high wardware skin jobs, nothing more. The forthcoming catalogues are "more of the same, only shinier". And I detect a lot of burn-out in the non-hardcore gamer community. I personally could give a fig how great/realistic everything gets to look.

If all I'm gonna get is a another FPS where I can intuit exactly which corner the baddy's gonna jump out from, or when a level boots, exactly what kinda level it's gonna be, and what its gonna contain, inside of three seconds, it's not worth it. Frankly, too many game styles have become pure rote, to the point where I often end up playing a brand new title in a sort of semi-daze after ten minutes have passed. So I ask you: what's the purpose of super-graphics if that's the case?

Sure I'm gonna pick up one of these consoles, but probably far in the future, when the catalogues grow and the price comes down. Only the Wii interests me because of its new controller. I'll wait for firmer word on how fun/practical it is to actually use and then I'll make my decision (IS it really, really a controller, or the equivalent of Donkey bongos?). I've never owned a game cube, rarely played one, and have never been too excited by Nintendo's catalogue, but if the remote word is good, I'd be willing to jump to it (also provided they keep their prices as sensible as ever).

Lighstaber game, sure. But Nintendo never seems in a hurry to court Western franchises, so that could be a LONG ways off. Plus, a hardware-included game package is just as likely, if not moreso, on either of the other consoles, now that the technology exists. I sure wont be getting a Wii on spec of a lightsaber game.

Whoops. But $499 and $599 are just $500 and $600.

    Kotaku link

Reports a possible $249 launching pricepoint for the Revolution. VC costs are a few dollars for NES, $5 for SNES and $10 for N64. TG16 will have 1st party titles at launch witch 3rd parties to be added later. VC titles are pro-scan enabled.

Which console do you guys think made the strongest showing at E3? To me it was the Nintendo Wii because it stood out from the crowd and took a risk by giving us a unique form of gameplay that could pay off heavily for them. The PS3 and XBOX 360 have stunning graphics and many technical upgrades, but they were basically the PS2 and XBOX with better graphics. Nintendo decided to be innovative with their next-gen console and give us a new way to play games, even though it has the worst graphics out of all 3 next-gen systems. Going into E3 hardly anyone thought the Wii would have this strong a showing and would be able to compete with the PS3 and XBOX 360, but they made a believer out of me and probably many others. Now Nintendo has the chance to regain their spot atop the videogame system world.

Wow. No need for e-bay :)
Mario 64 was going to set me back 20 bucks. Ten bucks? I can live with that :D

And as further elaboration, Hudson is apparently planning those 1st party titles to number at at least 100 TG16 titles.

When I first heard the name of the new Nintendo system, I laughed.

    I admit it.

I laughed my head off. Because, really, can you resist from saying, "Nintendo...WEEEEEE!" And then, I actually thought more about the name, and actually saw how it was spelt, and thought of it as an okay name. I mean, it has Wii in the name. That implies joy, which is caused by fun.

    So, Wii=Fun?

Sounds like a good deal to me.

Another interesting title annoucned for the Revolution is a sequel to the DS game "Trauma Center: Under the Knife" titled "Trauma Center: Second Opinion". The original got pretty good reveiws- interesting to see that it sold enough for the series to continue. I've almost picked that up a few times now, probably will do so once the price drops a bit.

Additionally, a PS3 title by the name fo Warhawk also caught my eye- looks like it could be a fun little arcade flight shooter in the vein of Rogue Leader or Starfighter.

The "Trauma Center" game probably sold a lot more in Japan, because Japanese gamers like those weird, quirky titles.

Sorry if this has already been asked...

    But I have two questions.

    1) Will the Wii also have a more standard controller alongside their new "Wii-mote"? I've heard yes.
    2) Will the PS3 be fully backwards compatibile? I've heard some say no...or partial (but more than the 360) and yet others say yes...

The Wii has its boomerang and remote thingie, which the remote functions as the remote and as the NES controller if you turn it on its side, but i saw on G4 there is also another controller which plugs into your main controller which acts as your N64/SNES controller, it has the Z-button and shoulder buttons and everything for all of teh N64/SNES games that you can download so you can play it like you were playing the actual system.

The Wii has officially bought me over. Does anyone know the list of games that are going to be available for download, or is it all of them? And is it going to be free?

GamersDaily.Net has a great article on the Nintendo Wii based on what was known pre-E3.

    >> 1) Will the Wii also have a more standard controller alongside their new "Wii-mote"? I've heard yes.<<

Besides the Wiimote and "nunchuck" attachment, there is a "retro" controller show at E3 that is meant for the Virtual Console titles- basicly looks like a shorter SNES pad with two added analog sticks (kinda like the dual shock in terms of location) and a trigger Z button, though it'll be sold seperately from what was said at E3.

Beyond that, the Wii has 4 GCN controller ports so it can use a GCN controller as a more modern "standard" controller.

    >>2) Will the PS3 be fully backwards compatibile? I've heard some say no...or partial (but more than the 360) and yet others say yes...<<

I don't know for certain but I thought i heard that only the high-end system would be backards compatible.

    >>Does anyone know the list of games that are going to be available for download, or is it all of them? And is it going to be free?<<

There was a supposedly leaked list of Virtual Console titles online a few months ago, but with the announcement of there being at least 100 TG16 titles at launch, that leaked list seems rather sparse by comparison. I'd expect to see almost all 1st and 2nd party Nintendo titles though.

I posted the info on the reported costs for the games a couple posts ago.

As far as I'm concerned from the Sony press conference, the Playstation 3 will be backwards compatible with Playstation and Playstation 2 games. I don't know if that's specific to any of the 20GB or 60Gb versions of the Playstation 3.

One more thing, the PS3 will be backwards compatible with ps1 and ps2 games that have strictly adhered to Sony's TRC (Technical Requirements Checklist).
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ps3

So no bootlegs presumably. I hope it's not a random 360 list type affair.

    =P~

Amazing....so in theory it should be possible to get Super Mario Legend of the Seven Stars MUCH cheaper this way than by Ebay.

So these games that are downloadable, will they only be first party titles or others as well? And is it one of things where you will have to have a high speed internet to download or is that even known yet?

Doesn't the DS have a thing you can buy for online play?
If so, then I imagine the Wii would be the same.

    >>So these games that are downloadable, will they only be first party titles or others as well?<<

I imagine they'll mostly be 1st and 2nd party titles at launch- plus the Genesis and TG16 titles. It's likely you'll see some 3rd party titles but that will probably be up to those third parties whether they want to participate or not.

    >>And is it one of things where you will have to have a high speed internet to download or is that even known yet?<<

No word on that yet. I would think that VC downloads would be feasible over dial-up, but that Wii games will probably require broadband, but you never know I guess.

    >>Doesn't the DS have a thing you can buy for online play?<<

It's a USB adaptor you plug into your PC to allow your DS to wirelessly connect to the internet in the event you don't have a wifi router in your house.
