Video gaming must be one of the most expensive hobbies out there...and it sucks because half of the gamers can't keep affording shelling out this kind of cash. I just wonder how many more gamers the PS3 and it's games will alienate...

It's ashame...gaming should be affordable to everyone and enjoyed by everyone.

Isn't the average age of gamers supposed to be somewhere between 28-31. I think people are crying doom and gloom a bit prematurely with cost of the PS3 and games. Sony will lose market share this gen but they will still come out on top I bet. As if an extra 10 bucks is going to stop these two idiots from buying the next FF game.

unfortunately the money thing hit me like a ton of bricks. Still going Wii-Only (I'm a sucker for Nintendo) and yet I won't be there on launch day. I have little things like a mortgage and insurance to deal with.

    Still, I'm 21 and I own property.

We all know that Sony and Microsoft can pump money into their consoles with funds from everything else they sell. However, I think Sony might actually take a pretty hard hit, considering that even some of there other products(laptop batteries in particular) aren't doing so well. Maybe it's a sign that Sony should really rethink what they do, and just try to be flavor of the month. It's bad enough that Windows Vista isn't gonna be a big hit, because everyone has just gotten used to XP, especially with next gen consoles and energy prices(which we all know drives people's finances), this is going to rough for Sony and Microsoft

Question: Will you absolutely need to have an HDTV to play an Xbox 360?

But, will the graphics be as sharp as shown? I'm not too concerned with graphics, but I'm seriously considering buying an Xbox 360 after I get the Wii. The 360 finally has some games on it that I want to get.

Yeah, I think I'm definitely wanting to go with a Wii and then later a 360, at this rate.

The majority of gamers may be whatever demograph you stated 20 something to almost 40. But that's not all of the gamers...Don't forget the gaming community is always gaining more gamers as children become kids and start wanting more than just leapfrog "fun for learning"...

I still Sony is going to alienate alot more gamers this time around...and they will loose more support in the gaming community...But Sony can afford to loose support...but after time...they will feel the hit. Nintendo and Microsoft will be gaining new fans left and right, while sony may be loosing more fans than they gain.

Sony has far more to lost then the others. Previous leaders in the field, two major console success stories and plenty of 1st party content. Having said that, none of the announcements so far have my interest, which has never happened before. The online strategy is not looking good (companies are dropping online support left, right and center) and Gran Turismo HD is a huge dissapointment. Dare I say it, they need a Halo, and only Metal Gear Solid can be that right now. Problem with that is, it's Konami's baby, not Sony.

You don't need an HDTV for a 360, but there's a significant improvement in the visuals, from what i can tell, when you do use one. Back when the 360 launched people on non-HD sceens found 360 titles to not look all that much more impressive than the XB, but saw a big improvement when switching to HD.

That said, the games will still look great, and a lot of those 360 impressions could merely be due to launch title quality. Now that we're a year in, we're starting tos ee some more impressive offerings in any definition.

Heavenly Sword? Assassin's Creed? Devil May Cry 4? Final Fantasy XIII? Possibly a new Resident Evil?

Sony still has a chance, methinks. It's always a tough gamble with a new system, especially with new hardware and a hefty price tag. But IMO, people will still buy it and I have faith it'll do quite well.

Also, shhh, [face_shhh] don't tell anyone this but Game Stop is having its annual manager's conference this week so we *should* know when we can reserve the Nintendo Wii and the PS3 in the first week of October.

It's the same as god of war, only way more expensive and shiny.
    Availble for 360
This game pisses me off. They decided to not have Dante as the main character because they used him too much. So instead they get a character who is exactly like Dante. And it's not made by the DMC/DMC3 guy.
I hate this game on the principle that even before it's out it's being ******* out. There's a DS tie in.
Wii and 360 version in the works

I don't know if anyone has seen this. I can't remember if its been posted in this thread recently or not so I'll post it again anyway if it has...

Peter Jackson to develop Xbox games

Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson is teaming with software giant Microsoft to develop new interactive games for the Xbox console, the US-based company said today.

Jackson and partner Fran Walsh and Microsoft Game Studios have launched Wingnut Interactive to produce a new instalment in the Halo game series and to develop a new project in interactive entertainment, Microsoft said.

New Zealand-based Jackson and Walsh last year signed up as executive producers for a film version of Halo.

Jackson, whose most recent film was King Kong, said his vision was "to push the boundaries of game development and the future of interactive entertainment".

He said new gaming technology meant "storytellers can work their craft in the same way they do today with movies and books but taking it further with interactivity".

Hey..If anyone missed the Amazon pre-order for the Wii, Gamestop is going to start preorders next week sometime. I didn't get a date, just that it'll be next week. And make sure if you want Zelda, you preorder it at the same time.

Sadly, we will probably have to wait till I'm guessing, next year to get a black Wii. I'll probably swap my launch white one out for it, or just give the white one to my sister.

I like my white DS lite so getting a white Wii won't be a problem for me.

Now my paradigmn is if I get the White Wii, then I know Gamestop will have a promo when the other colors come out that might go along the lines of:"Trade in your Wii, and a different color Wii for $99.." or something like that. I just want the black one, as does my brother, but I also want to play TP when it launches.

I understand they want to see how well it sells, which to me is a no brainer, but I know it's all business...

In other news, MS is releasing their answer to the iPod, the Zune, for, get ready, $249.99US. It looks like the Nintendo bashers will have yet another product to replace getting a Wii, but at the same time, complain about price.

The system color doesn't bother me at all, as I'd decided on the Apple-white version already. It looks like it has the same sexy clear-plastic shell as the DS, which is fine by me.

I wonder if M$ chose the name to be similar to Creative's Zen on purpose. [face_thinking] The way it is now, everyone know the iPod and it has become synonymous with the term 'mp3-player'. Then there's the iPod's kid brother; the Creative line, with the Zen line competing directly with iPod in terms of design and features and such. Then there's all the other brands. So there's a very good chance that if someone has an mp3 player that is not iPod, if you ask him "you got an iPod?", he'll go "No, I have a Zen". Now, if Microsoft does some heavy duty marketing with the Zune brand, making it almost as big as the iPod, there's a good chance that people will know the Zune so well that they'll confuse the Zune with the Zen, and with the awareness of the Zune being that much greater the Zen will be squeezed out of the market. I think some people might even confuse the Zen for a pathetic ripoff of the Zune brand, the same way you'd react to a watch branded Molex, because by then EVERYONE knows the Zune and that's the big brand so it HAS to be the original one.
