I like the family scene very much, but maybe the bedroom scene isn't very important.

I liked the bedroom scene for two reasons; Anakin stating that he felt like he never really had a home. That his home was always were his mom was. Secondly, Padme's last line in the scene where she asks Anakin, "Notice the difference?" between her now and the holo-pic of her as a little girl. Apparently she's all grown up too. It's a nice little flirtation line that shows where she is in regards to her feelings for him.

I can understand Lucas's reasons for cutting the scenes, and also, as we have not seen Episode III yet we don't know how the whole thing with Padme's family would've fit into the story, whether they would've been loose ends, so he might have been thinking in terms of that.

However, I do like the family dinner scene. I think it added to Padme's character, and Anakin's, too, like when he looked at her. I thought the bedroom scene was okay but didn't do much for the plot. I didn't like the interrogation scene at all.

I didn't like the extended arrival on Naboo that much, there was a lot of extra information that wasn't necessary. However, I love both Padme's family scene and the bedroom scene. Not so much for what is said, but for the little things: Anakin's smile at the table, Padme gazing at Anakin in the yard, etc. :D

I agree that the scene with Padme's family should not have been deleted, it was one of the better dialogues.

I believe a lot of the criticism of the movie stemmed not from what was on the screen, but what wasn't. Reviewers, critics, people on the street, my friends, etc., kept asking the same questions; Why has Anakin been thinking about her for the last 10 years? Why would Padme be interested in him? What was missing from her life and what did she really give up to serve? All of these questions are answered in the deleted Naboo scenes. IMHO the movie lost emotional ground because they were cut.

And another thing - if I had dinner with my family while wearing an outfit showing off my abdomen, my mother would never forgive me.

Yeah, I was wondering about that myself. Why didn't anyone comment?

Maybe Naboo - or, at least, the Naberrie family - is a lot more liberal with fashion than we would be.

Perhaps it was because they KNEW she was flirting with Anakin. Her sister knew it, he mother knew it... ;)

"Perhaps it was because they KNEW she was flirting with Anakin. Her sister knew it, her mother knew it..."

Makes sense, Ternian, and flows nicely with her last comment during the deleted bedroom scene when she asks Anakin if he can "Notice the difference?" between her now and her as child legislator.

I found these scenes a bit boring, just held up the story in my opinion

I thought the family scenes and the bedroom scenes were great. I like the fact that they were so "unStarWarsish". It made you feel that Padme had a background and that she was a real character. Deleting these scenes was a big mistake.

I think we should start a petition to get these scenes inserted into a future version of the film!!! They'd add a lot more to AOTC than the Jabba scene does in ANH.

"I like the fact that they were so "unStarWarsish"."

Yet if they were included, other people would have complained that they didn't fit in a Star Wars films. Lucas just can't win. ;)

Unfortunately, YodaJeff, I fear you are right. Why soem people should have a problem with characterisation I don't know, but they do.

So true, Palp_Faction. I think that most people expect a Star Wars movie to just be a lot of running around and shooting blasters at close range. It's a symptom of the media induced "short attention span" blitz that characterizes our times. A lot of people simply don't want to take the time to dig deeper and understand things. Their loss, in my opinion.

I liked the dinner scene because it gave a glimpse of what "everyday life" is like in the SW universe, which we never really get to see.

I did not think the scenes matched the tone of a star wars movie, I am glad they were cut.

I didn't like the production design. It looked like it could have been in a normal home here on this island earth.

I did enjoy the scene where they arrive at her parents and have dinner. It is hard to say whether the deleted scenes would have been better if they were integrated back in. I think so but unsure overall.

You have to be kidding... that is part of the magic of SW - it COULD be us.

Watching the movie in chronological order would not have made you think that way. The movie would have placed you in Naboo.

I agree, these scenes should have been kept. OMG, 5 more minutes to the film--NOOOOOOOOOOO! These scenes were great and would have made the Love Story even better. I think they could have trimmed some of the clone war battle and the execution scene, as well as some of the Coruscant chase scene. I mean, I know SW is supposed to be about action, but I think this film had more action than any of the others anyway. Look at ESB--not a lot of action, but a much more personal story and a great movie. AotC was supposed to be primarily a love story. And as an A/P shipper I'm all for any additional scenes that could be added with them. I also liked the extended arrival on Naboo, when Padme says, "Actually I had hoped to have a family of my own by now..." I love foreshadowing, and the look Anakin gives her.

This scenes did'ent seem like they were "Star Wars material". It reminded me of Dawson's Creek or something 8-}. "Padme never brings home her boyfriends to meet us." (or something along those lines) -Sola [face_plain]. Although they built on the limited time Lucas had for establishing Anakin and Padme's relationship and they added to the story the movie had to be cut down because of time constrants. :D

I thought the dinner scene was cheezy.

"I had to say it, now its said."

    The bedroom scene was pointless.

The Senate scene was just funny.

You have to remember that those scenes that were included on the DVD, were ALSO cut down. You only get about half of each original scene on the DVD - at most.

...the movie had to be cut down because of time constrants.

To include more Threepio in a droid factory? This is a void statement.
