    *Crawls out from lurking*

You could always take an idea like that and add an EU twist. Such as: Which EU character do you think would prefer jazz?

Create a whole series for the different music genre's matched with EU characters and then resale it as: Which EU character do you share (by popular concensus) musical preference?

That could actually last a while if you make sure to take out those EU from the running once they win a genre.

Well I, personally, don't see a big deal about the EU Community posing a community poll about the communities tastes. I understand that G&C is about that but not a lot of us go to G&C (I've personally never been in there) and it would be the whole board not the EUC. I mean if you can go into a forum called Your Jedi Council Community and read a thread about SeaWorld facts, or Tila Tequila, why can't we in the EUC have a poll to find out our own users tastes? I mean its not like we're trying to replace G&C nor are we trying to get the feel of the whole board, but just this community. And it also could help with interaction, I mean, me and Kev first started talking cause we found out we both liked Symphony X, now we're best of friends, something like this could help people come together to discuss their tastes in music and thus create friendships and user interactivity. Isn't that the whole purpose of the community? to bring about user interactivity?

Yes, but if we don't have something related to the EU in our interactions then we are basically the YJCC and not the EUC. The Expanded Universe is what brings us together in our interactions. Like I said, you can talk about all of that in the NUS thread, but as far as a poll, it needs to be related to the EU or the EUC (like we had a few with our own usernames in them).

Plus, the boards are a community as a whole and we do not want to upset nor push out of the way the other forums that we have here.

I actually really like Mitth's idea. I think that is something that if we could generate enough interest it could go on for a little while. Now given how you've set it up, I think we would need to lay out a set number of genres and characters (well, we only have ten spots on the poll so we need ten characters.) The other option is to reverse it and say "what is Luke Skywalker's musical genre?" and then have the genre choices as the poll option and we could do a few of those.

Horsey's right. Basically, we really want to get away from the notion that each board is its own kingdom. I understand that we have our own community here, and that's fine, but that's just an accident of circumstance. People find common interests and they become friends.

I don't want to make it hard and formalized by having aspects best used in other social boards brought over here. That's the wrong direction to take things. The polls should remain EU related, but there can be some flexibility in how we implement them.

So maybe I'll throw a credit or two on the pile here, maybe I can even help with a slightly different perspective.

Since my arrival here I've always maintained a relative apathy toward the events/elections/general discussion in the EUC Senate. I suspect a lot of newer users share the apathy I myself admit too.

There may even be a generational gap here, not in relation to any age of the various members of the forum, but in sign up date. For some of the more vetran members of the EUC the Senate seems to be something of a tradition, something they have had a lot of fun with and helped build over the years. I can see the hesitation to not let something you've worked hard to help build get disbanded.

And I do think it will be unfortunate if that is what comes to pass, but for a lot of the newer members of this community(myself included) the Senate holds no real meaning. It seems a little too structured, a little too much like work for some people to be bothered with.

I'll point toward the Mandalorian/Republic Commando Fanclub as an example. We had Zandoran as our Mand'alor for quite a little while after I first stumbled in there, he had communications with and from the Senate on rare occasions but for the most part it was basically a closed community in the middle of the EUC.

As a group we really didn't seem to care what was going on in the Senate, or care to assign a Senator or any of that stuff. Then when Zandoran decided to step down as our Mand'alor we couldn't even be bothered to appoint a leader. There just seemed to be very little interest in what was going on outside of "our" own little thread.

Maintaining interest in the Mandalorian/Republic Commando thread has proven to be a difficult task at times, mostly it seems to me brought on by the lulls between books in the Republic Commando series. We tried a few different ideas. MsLanna's word list was the most successful of these endeavors, but overall it was really hard to keep people interested longterm with no significant action ongoing in the sub-community(book or comic wise).

I suspect the issues(I hesitate to say problems) in that thread are likely indicative of a larger cycle in the overall EUC. There are a lot of people who enjoy popping in and making a post once and a while, but really a lack of inviduals interested in making any sort of heavy commitment to either their own fanclub(s) or the EUC in general. This is specualtion on my part but from reading through this thread its kinda what I've taken from the discussion.

The EUC may need to look toward a more random, volunteer based approach in the future than the significant structure that the Senate seemed to provide. I mean MsLanna didn't spearhead the weekly word game in the Mandalorian/Republic Commando Fanclub, or spearhead the creation Order 66 EUC discussion thread because her she had some responsibility to do so, it was because they both were things she was interested in doing with no concern about recognition or title. That may be the route that the EUC needs to take now.

So the next obvious question would seem to be "Rob, how do you get people to volunteer?" I have a simple response....I don't know. I suspect the idea of granting people VIP'ship was intended as a perk in the Senate over the years, but if you have fewer and fewer people interested in seeing their name in lights that likely wont work.(I'm not saying this is the case 100%, only that its a possible senario in this Senate type discussion.)

I love the idea of the polls. The 30th Anniversary of the EU polls are actually what first brought me over this way and I suspect they could have that effect for a lot of newer users now as well.

Here's my suggestion towards the poll idea, hypothetical of course. Have say one poll per month and find someway to advertise that poll across the boards. Have one active fanclub pick the ten poll options for people to vote on for said month. It could be something inane as "Who's your favorite Mandalorian 2009?" The Mandalorian/Republic Commando Fanclub could t

We always ask who was the best or greatest, why not ask who was the worst for once?

    Who was the worst jedi/Sith?

What is the dumbest Force Power?

What character would you like to see in a movie?

Those are just a few I can throw out...I know it's been a long time for me to speak or even do anything but that's my simple ideas...

This place seriously needs some off-topicness if anyone's going to have any fun with it.

I think it's time to have a raucous re-election, because what good is a forum government that isn't fraught with drama?!

I second the vote of no confidence! You've already been Chancellor a few times, Sinre! And clearly if you'd done a good job then, the Senate wouldn't be in its current state. j/k ;)

I just did what his EU Maj told me. :p

Alright, in the interest of getting this going again, let's start with the small stuff. Polls, anyone?

How about a Legacy one - How do you think Legacy will end?

I like this notion. How about some of these for possible choices? :)

Darth Krayt takes back the One Sith from Wyyrlok.

A major galactic leader (Stazi/Roan/Wyyrlok/Veed) dies.

The One Sith are forced to retreat from Coruscant.

Luke Skywalker steps out of a shower.

EUC Awards used to be so fun. [face_thinking] There really isn't enough EUC activity to warrant them anymore.

Is there anything the EUS can do these days other than put up polls?

I think it would be fun if we would host a party similar to what the RPF does for their Winter Ball. So either a Summer festival or something like that. I'm not versed enough in RPing to write up an opening post but I've been trying since March to come up with something and unfortunately Impy set the bar too high for me. We could have it here and invite the RPF over to play with us (as well as the SWC).
