I don't think you can ever really know what people are thinking when they are speaking. So, I can't guess what he thought. I don't think the comment was meant to have overtones of double meanings. I say this because the documentary is aimed at ALL audiences. Had it had an adult twist, the George Lucas people would not have intentionally let it air.
You're joking, right? Dirty thoughts were the first thing that sprang to mind when I heard about that bit in the web doc... OK, maybe that says more about me than anyone else involved, but still... Honestly, Ian's a big boy. No doubt he's been around the block a few times. If he didn't realize that "polished helmet" had other connotations, I'll eat my hat. Er... on second thought, perhaps I should rephrase that!
Hello! My name is Hope Venable I'm from Tennessee! I love Ian Mcdiarmid and I'm enjoying reading the posts! I'm also a member of, http://movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/ianmcdiarmid I'm glad to be here! Hope Venable
First off all, provide proof of rumblings. Secondly, you call this evidence? Btw, I wonder if anyone can tell that I am a huge Ian fan.
Hi No, I am not claiming to know what he was thinking when he made the comment. I am also not claiming to know what the atmosphere was like when it was said or just after it was said. I was just saying that I am not leaning towards an intentional double meaning where everyone there was in on "a joke". It could have happened that way. I am just not leaning towards it. I say that because the comment was in a documentary aimed at ALL AUDIENCES. Entertainment video aimed at general audiences is often edited to exclude sexual or other adult connotations. Especially Star Wars. He could have meant it that way. It is possible. Everyone could have been in on the joke. There were a lot of men there. What I think happened was it missed the editor's eye OR was never originally meant that way and that is why it made the final cut. I guess we will all have to guess what happened. It would be interesting to know if we accidently got a peak at guy talk on the set! Hope, Nice to see you and hope you have fun!
OMG!!! He's not TEH GAY, he's TEH BISEXUAL!!!111!1 Can't we speak about something OTHER than his sexual preferences? We're starting to sound like the IMDB people.
Allow me to wish Ansketil a happy (belated) birthday (it was the 13th). I asked if I could "interview" her about her fic on ff.net. Those who have been following it know that it is, to say the least, a very absorbing fic, and I know I had a lot of thoughts and questions about its origins as I read it. So I thought it might be interesting to interview the FIGS authors and record their thoughts about their fics for posterity. I couldn't think of many questions, though. So if anyone else thinks of more, maybe we can add to this later. Without further ado, I present: The first FIGS Fanfic Author Interview! (yay) (clapping) (which should rightly go to Ansketil for this remarkable fic.) 1.) How long have you been a SW fan? I have been since the first Special Edition came out. 2.) Do you do any other writing "in RL?" Yes, I am actually attempting to write a proper novel - but I am being constantly distracted by a certain fic. My name, Ansketil actually comes from the villain in my novel who is quite? how shall I put this? without actually resembling Palpatine he is somehow? similar. 3.) How did you become a Palpatine fan and what led you to see him in the way that you do? (As admittedly we're in the minority of SW fans, most of whom hate Palpatine!) Now that came somewhat later. I became a Palpatine fan, as I said, through role-playing when I was ? here?s a shock ? thirteen. I then read all the Palpatine material I could find ? anywhere. Even if he was only on two pages of a book, I would read it just for that. Palpatine is so intelligent. I gravitated towards intelligence ? and power. Even then I was fascinated by the psychology of power. As a little girl my hero was Julius Caesar. That?s why I?m attracted to Palpatine. He was the only really interesting character to me. I?m sorry to say that I have a love-to-hate relationship with Anakin. I enjoy his suffering? Ok, maybe not that much ? but much of my story is ?lets see how bad I can make Anakin?s life.? In terms of the way I see the emperor? I have played him as everything from cloyingly sweet to practically devoid of emotion. I suppose, during all that time I just got a feel for him. I knew exactly what he would and wouldn?t do. I still play him occasionally. That?s not to say he?s totally in character for my fic. There are some things you have to change. But I feel I know him very well. 4.) I think everyone who's reading A Room with a View agrees that it is a very special story, unlike anything else we've seen featuring Palpatine. What gave you the idea to write it? What was the impetus for that feeling that you "just had to" do it? Well, while surfing through the web I found ?The Lover.? I had never thought of the possibility of Palpakin before ? I just read it because Palpatine was in it. I could not stop thinking about that fic afterwards. It was all I could think about. But even as I read it I thought ? What would it be like if it took into account the prequels? I want to know! How would this be possible? I found I wanted to write that fanfic. But several things held me back. I had no experience with slash writing ? how would I portray the love scenes? Also, as Episode III was looming closer, I knew it would be folly to start before I had seen it. And then I saw it. And I knew, absolutely knew that I had to write that fic. No matter that I was under qualified ? It was necessary. But I can?t bear to write OOC. I just can?t do it. So I had to make it realistic. Fanfiction where they just jump into bed doesn?t really appeal to me. It has to be as realistic as I can make it. 5.) One striking thing about the story is the beautiful description. The characters are drawn so strikingly in the mind's eye, and those luscious clothes! What gave you the inspiration to do this so well? My luscious clothes?! For ages I have drawn nothing but clothes for Palpatine. I have designed them and my fold
this pic was emailed to me recently, its hayden christian in jedi vader make-up, use the link below. is it a deleted secne from ep3 or from the tv series??? http://www.starwarsunited.com/forum/album_pic.php?pic_id=272
Great interview! BTW, "teh" is a common misspelling of "the" on the internet, though most people here only use it to make fun of those people/appear cool/be sarcastic.
First off all, provide proof of rumblings Well, I'm not gonna lead you by the hand. There's a discussion only a few pages back. Secondly, you call this evidence? Well, yes I do actually. What more do you want, to see him getting drunk with a transvestite? Er... on second thought, perhaps I should rephrase that! Touche! And perhaps you should. Or suffer the fate of my 'Execute Order 69' thread FIGS will. DL
Can't we speak about something OTHER than his sexual preferences? We're starting to sound like the IMDB people. Nah, more like us GPS people. I swear, that's all we've talked about for like the past several months, thanks in large part to Maelicia, though.
Lovely interview, LL. And happy belated birthday, Ansketil, yet again. *SNORT* You're killing me, KM!!1!! @ Whitey: That U-No-Poo bit is brilliant, isn't it... *rotfl*
I must be missing something... where's the transvestite? Bwaaah! That was hilarious! I finished HBP yesterday morning - the ending is with a hefty dose of thrown in for good measure!
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. I was typing a post and went back to copy something, and when I came back to the post it was gone! You forget the "TEH." It always brings a sentence an extra amount of class. I knew that I MUST have it in my sig the second I saw it. That one is good, to be sure, but I'm partial to "Mollywobbles." And although I haven't "officially" (I can't resist looking ahead) finished the book, I agree about the ending.
Ian is teh R0XXX0RS!!! (Christopher Lee and Julian Glover are teh R0XXX0RS too !) But Catherine!!! Think about it! If you married him, then you could do what he and that maid were doing EVERYDAY, EVERYTIME, EVERYWHERE ! No more hiding in the shadows of the porch like in the movie ! aheehee as for ian's um, SEXUAL PREFERENCE, i'm really sorry, but i'm seriously getting the vibes that he's not straight...oh well, enough of that ! at least we're sure palpatine is, in fact, a full-fledged guy ! LLL - EXCELLENT Interview with Ansketil ! man, though slashes creep the frack out of me, i'll go check out the newest chapter of A room with a view !
