Just on pure directon and visual storytelling:

    1. The Rumination Scene: A stunning, silent scene. This is the scene that Hayden won me over. It is clear when he sheds that tearing, looking at Padme's apartment, that he's made up his mind in what he's going to do. It's as if he's apologizing to Padme for what he's about to do. But that he's doing it for her. And then we get Padme, at her apartment, thinking about her husband. You could see her wanting to reach out and tell Anakin that everything will be fine. Yet, at the same time, you can sense in her that she knows something is just not right. The cinematography is spot on. The colors. The acting by both Hayden and Natalie just bleeds tragic and emotion. The music of John Williams. Just pure perfection. I can't stress this scene enough.

This is, without a doubt, the best directed scene in the entire Prequel Trilogy and possibly the Original Trilogy.

    2. The Immolation Scene. Just great acting all across the board. Hayden sold that "I hate you" line with pure disgust. Ewan's pain in that scene is heartbreaking in many respects. The horror of watching Anakin burn and Obi-Wan walking away with his brother's lightsaber. Just great.

    3. The Birth of the Twins and the Birth of Vader: Nothing needs to be said about this. Just great all around, especially the lowering of the mask. The opening of the eyelids. The closing of the mask. The placement of the helmet. The silence. The first breathe. The look of those two scenes are just fantastic.

    4. The Duel of the Fates: Yoda vs. Sidious inside the Senate Arena. If you can't figure out the visual poetry of that scene, then you just don't have a clue.

    5. The Reunion of Husband and Wife: Beautiful acted. Surprisingly erotic. Real emotion there. Great music by John once Anakin hears that Padme's pregnant. The dolly out as Anakin hugs her again and the joy you see between them. It was a great little scene.

    1: Anakin/Obi-Wan duel - beginning to end.

For every older fan out there, this whole scene is the one we've wondered about and waited with bated breath to arrive for years. For me, it was almost a lifetime that I've been wanting to see this scene realized and brought to life on screen.

From the very onset of Obi-Wan stoicly coming out of Padme's ship and ordering Anakin to stop torturing his wife, to the spitting battle of icy words, to the evenly matched duel, to the tragic ending - it far surpassed and exceeded my expectations.

The opening sequence is frought with emotion and tension. Finally, Anakin can now blow all of his frustrations and anger towards his former Master who he always, begrudgingly thought was "holding him back."

As they're spatting to each other and circling so that Obi-Wan can check on Padme's pulse, Anakin's menacing pacing PERFECTLY mirrors Darth Maul in TPM. Anakin has taken on all of the mannerisms of all of the Sith that we have seen in the Prequel saga: the animal, feral quality of Maul, the grandoise super, overinflated sense of self and importance of Dooku, and finally the lust for pure power that belongs to the Emperor.

The shot with Anakin declaring the reign of HIS Empire w/ Obi-Wan's dumbfounded expression focused clearly behind him was pure cinematic poetry. And the final lines that seal the duel off "If you're not with me, then you're my enemy" and "Only a Sith deals in absolutes," are beautifully acted out. Ewan's face is full of disbelief and you can see his resolve tighten into a mask of courage as he realizes that his student is long gone and as Yoda had predicted earlier, Darth Vader has replaced him. All sense of disbelief that has followed him upon witnessing what Anakin did at the Temple is gone as he realizes that he has no choice, they must duel to the death.

The duel itself was amazing. Visually, I never once thought that they weren't there actually fighting amongst the molton lava, the FX were that perfect. The red lighting gave both actors an unreal appearance, like soldiers battling in hell. The shooting lava as it danced in perfect time w/ the music was inspired and only further enhanced the danger of the fight.

The swordsmanship on both sides was impressive and left me utterly breathless over and over. By far, it is the duel to end all duels in the entire SW saga. What makes it so much better though is the fact that it's emotionally charged. Your heart just screams at Anakin to SNAP OUT OF IT! When Obi-Wan tells Anakin that he's failed him, and Anakin shouts that he thinks the "Jedi are evil" - Hayden's voice wavers, rather like it did back in the Confession scene when he's trying to blame Obi-Wan for all of his troubles. For all that Anakin's turned evil, even there, seeing his former Master being humble in front of him, causes him to briefly pause and hear the hollowness of his words before commiting and leading his final attack run.

The ending sequence, the wails of misery that come out from Obi-Wan as he shouts down to Anakin's ruined body is just heart wrenching. Obi-Wan's not only voicing his own personal disgust and disappointment over Anakin's actions, but he speaks for all of his fallen breathern Jedi who perished under Order 66 and at Anakin's hand. I still fight down tears every time I witness Obi-Wan's "victory." The end came out as I always hoped it would be, emotionally draining and utterly depressing.

In Anakin's eyes you can see that the torment, the confusion is even still brewing in them. The conflict that Luke feels, years later, was there, even then at the end.

All the while he killed the younglings and even the Seperatists, Anakin was crying. In no way did he enjoy what he was doing. He did it all out of some misguided belief that he could save the woman he loved from her fated death.

The irony of that is that Padme most likely would've lived, had Anakin not turned. She died because her love, her Democracy, everything she believed in was gone. She simply gave up.

The most chilling realization in thes

The Montage with Anakin and Padme, before Anakin goes to Palpatine office to see what Mace is doing is Simply amazing. I couldn't beliive that it looked that good.

The paralles at the end when Padme and Anakin are dying, and the twins and Vader are being born is awesome.

The end of the Duel is just out of this world. From the time the talk about point of views to the end i was just in awe.

That GL did the Temple raid pretty good, any director could have showed it, but GL made it better by not showing what was really going on inside.

But the best dirceted scene maybe in any GL movie (outside of american Graffiti) was the Scene beofre The Duel. It was one of the most amazing shots ive ever seen. Obi Wan standing there like the lone ranger, and walking down the ramp with an almost swaager saying ur gonna stop this ***t right now.THe dialog after this was priceless, by the time they ignited there sabers i was about to scream.

GL has a way of setting up big endings, All th OT movies, TPM ROTS, and American Graffiti, but for ROTS i was a little skeptic on how this would turn out. Becuase fans have been waiting fot The Duel for almost 3 decades. But I gotta give it too him he pulled it out when he needed to.

    1. After opening crawl, it pans down to Coruscant and follows our heroes' ships from a rear POV and follows them to the massive space battle. Best opening in the whole sextet.

    2. Entire opera house scene. McDiarmid is recalling past events and really gets into it. You can tell he's speaking from the 3rd person but implies that he is Plagueis' apprentice who killed him. Mesmerizing.

    3. The scene Palpatine is facing toward the camera and Anakin is in the background. While Palpatine speaks, his voice subtly changes from Palpatine to the Sith Lord. Very well done.

    4. When Padme says, "You're breaking my heart Anakin!" it's so well delivered. It could have been a cringe-worthy moment but I always get a little choked up when I see that part.

    5. POV of Vader's mask from the inside as it's being put on. Favorite shot of ROTS. Great scene all the way to the "Click...hiss!" of the helmet going on.

"I Hate You". The only thing that you need to see. Brilliant.

Yep. Best moment of the entire Prequel trilogy. This is when I knew Anakin was gone. Great acting job by Hayden, pure hate in those eyes.

Well, I was going to post a topic about this, but only admins can post! Well, here we go: What were the crowds reactions at your theater? At mine, at the Midnight showing, here's how it went.

When "STAR WARS" came on, the crowd exploded and shook their lightsabers in the air. When R2 did his thing on "Invisible Hand" the crowd laughed. When the End Credits came, the crowd clapped, as did I. When Yoda reflected Sidious' lightning, I felt a great umph of triumph,,,yeah! Cool!

There is more then five great scenes in RotS so I'm having a hard time picking.

    1. Birth of Vader. From the overhead shot of Vader on the operating table to the moment he screams "No", absolutely flawless as is James Earl Jones' delivery.

    "But she was ALIVE?"

    2. The moment Padme arives on Mustafar, thru the duel, to the moment Obi-Wan leaves Anakin to burn to death.

    3. Order 66 and Bail arriving at the temple to see Zett killed by the clone troopers.

    4. Bail Organa makes plans to rescue the Jedi. It's a very short shot but absolutely fantastic, it instantly takes you back to the OT as we see the halls of the Tantive VI. Jimmy Smitts is wonderful as Bail and it's a shame we didn't get to see him more in the PT. Here's hoping he shows up in the tv series.

    5. The opening shot as we fly into the battle of Coruscant.

There's many more scenes but these are five that stick out to me.

    1. End of the duel. The entire scene is so evocative of the tragedy of RotS. Burning fires of hell all around, Anakin consumed by fire and evil, Obi-Wan's utter heartbreak about Anakin, the fall of the Jedi.

    2. Order 66. The betrayal by troops one has served with for three years. Especially Ki-Adi, Aayla. The music is gorgeous.

    3. The entire Tatooine montage. Obi-Wan handing his precious bundle, Beru's sheer joy at holding Luke, Owen leaning down to see Luke, the binary suns rising on a new day. By the way, I can't understand why people keep saying SUNSET, when it was clearly DAWN!

    4. The opera scene. Palpatine is a masterful seducer. Anakin is eager and willing to be seduced. He believes everything he's told, because that's what he has always WANTED to believe. That "they" were holding something back from him, he who is so much better than them.

    5. Utapau: from Obi-Wan's jump down from Boga to "Hello there", to being surrounded by droids, to Grievous advancing on him like the 4-armed Kali. Brilliantly fun in the truest SW sense.

    1. Padme/Anakin Dialogue on the landing platform of Mustafar

    2. The "Arrest" of Palpatine

    3. "Execute Order 66" and Yoda's collapse when he feels everything happen.

    4. The Homestead

    5. Padme's Funeral Procession and the snippet of Jappor

I'm writting my answers then going back to read everyone's five greats.

    1) DV to OWK at the end of the final duel: "I hate you." One word--Powerful! I'm sure GL pulled that out of Haden. This is so tragic that it was very difficult to get out my mind.

    2) Palpatine discusing with AS the legend that would ultimately intice AS to believing he could keep people from dying. I thing some are calling it the "un-natural" scene. Very smooth and almost hypnotic.

    3) DV's anger scene toward OWK accusing him of turning Padme against him.

    4) Palpatine giving too much info to AS in his chamber ultimately making AS aware just who palpatine was.

    5) "Are you threatening me master Jedi?"

Im sure after I read everyones answers I'll change my mind. Damn good to be feeling so excited about a movie again!

I'll highlight some of my favorite shots and small moments in no particular order.

    1. The clones raising up their weapons to Ki Adi Mundi. The ash falling from the sky and their cool individual costumes made this shot look awesome.

    2. The wide shot of Yoda and Sidious rising up into the senate rotunda. Epic!

    3. Obi Wan appearing at the top of the Naboo starship ramp. Badass.

    4. That awesome shot of Anakin and Obi Wan dueling down the corridor and making the sparks fly.

    5. One of the early Coruscant shots at night almost brought tears to my eyes. Beautiful.

Man, there is so many great moments, I need my second viewing on a digital screen.

I've said this in a few other threads, but I felt my heart drop at Padme's funeral. The way they came in from above with the small 'candlelight' vigil and JarJar's sadness that could even be seen on his long face was so incredibly powerful. Then, you see the queen of Naboo who was in AOTC that kind of brings you back full circle to the regal and powerful teenager that Padme once was. Finally, the camera comes in from directly above beaming in on the funeral pyre with Padme lying so peacefully with flowers in her hair...It was just heart breaking showing the beginning of the end of the Old Republic. It was heavy on symbolizm.

I hope that if they ever go back and add a celebration scene to Return of the Jedi again, or add a scene to any of the old movies they make it on Naboo to redeem a world that will have obviously been rapped by the Emperor.

    1. Order Sixty-Six
    2. Padme & Anakin thinking about each other in different parts of Coruscant. It's a powerful scene with her looking out of her apartment window and Anakin in the Jedi Counsel chambers thinking about her and contemplating his decision to turn in Palpatine.
    3. The final duel between Obi-Wan and Anakin/Vader.
    4. The discussion during the opera where Palpatine tells his story to Anakin.
    5. The birth of the twins, Anakins death scene, and the montage at the end.

    Here are my 5:

    1) The opening sequence where the camera pans down from the crawl to that enormous spaceship. That is by FAR the best opening sequence since Episode 4. EASILY. That was just awesome, and the music was brilliant. A work of art.

Really I am making this up as I go along after the first one, because I really wanted to put that out there. Lets see:

    2) The whole Yoda/Emperor sequence, beginning with Yoda knocking out the guards and ending with him in the crawlspace. The way they ascended into the senate arena was beautiful.

    3) The scene where Mace and the Council try and arrest the Chancellor, beginning with the low "worm's eye" shot of them marching down the hallway. I LOVED that.

    4) The scene where Anakin and Padme are literally looking at each other from miles away, that was a nice touch. Anakin is sitting around the council chambers, and he decides to look out the window towards Padme's building. Padme does the same thing. Back and forth a couple of times, and then Anakin makes his choice.

    5) Controversial, but I liked the whole sequence when Padme lands on Mustafar, beginning with that and ending with Anakin and Obi Wan beginning the duel. I loved the way Obi Wan just appears on the ramp.

Y'all are making me want to see this movie again, like right now. I posted mine (in no order) then read everyone else's. Every single post that had something different from mine, i'm thinking "oh yeah I loved that!"

Did anyone really really like the sound of the Boga by the way? It was just freaking bizarre and it had this strange echo, something like what a dinosaur might make. That whole sequence ending with "Hello There!" was perfect.

Obi-wan's make the same sound in ANH to scare away the Tusken Raiders and rescue Luke from certain death.

My favorite 5 scenes. In no particular order

    - Order 66
    - Opening Space Battle
    - The two duels (yes I'm cheating!)
    - Padme's Ruminations (Anakin and Padme connect from accross Corsucant)
    - The silent montage at the end

There are many more, especially dialog intensive ones by Palpatine.

Y'all are making me want to see this movie again, like right now.

Having seen the movie more than once, I can tell you that it's well worth at least a second viewing. Even if its only to catch details you missed in your first.

    1. The beauty and simplicity of the Anakin/Padme Jedi Temple/Coruscant Scene. This is the kind of scene that George Lucas exceeds at, and why he's a true artist in my book. No words needed to convey all that needs to be: emotion. Perfectly framed shots.

    2. The Ballet Scene. Ian McDiarmid puts on what might be his best performance in the entire saga. Hayden also impresses here, using non-verbal cues to react to Ian?s meticulous speech pattern. Love how Lucas focuses on Ian?s face in the frame when Palpatine reveals the fate of Darth Plagueis.

    3. Obi-Wan confronting Padme about Anakin?s whereabouts. Natalie is at her most naturalistic and Ewan evokes just the right balance of sorrow and authority, realizing the unfortunate situation he has put her in. This scene could?ve very easily been over dramatized with melodrama, but luckily Lucas keeps things level-headed.

    4. Padme?s Funeral. The lighting and colors used here are nothing short of breathtaking to behold. Padme?s outfit is angelic and radiating. When Lucas pans down to the Japor Snippet?oh my, it?s heart-wrenching.

    5. Anakin Burning In Hell. Magnificent imagery. Hayden?s scream gives me goosebumps. It?s just an epic, sorrowful scene.

2.Anakin and Padme`s reunion- very good acting.

3.Opening scene- R-2 made me laugh. Super astrodroid.

4.Palpatine talking with Anakin- Good to look as palps played on Anakin`s fears

I felt the EXACT SAME WAY. I don't even know what my other four favorite scenes were because this scene was so far ahead of everything else. Glad someone else felt the same way about this scene as I did. It's like no scene in any other SW movie. PT or OT.

I dont think anyone has mentioned it yet, but what about the scene where Anakin and Obi Wan say goodbye for the last time, as friends? I hadn't read the spoilers, but I just had this sinking feeling that this was their final goodbye before they would try to kill each other. I thought it was a very moving scene, especially the part where Obi Wan says that Anakin just needs to be patient.
