I am bracing myself for needing to redraw some family trees after the release of the Rise of Skywalker. In the meantime, I want to do some cross-continuity charting.

I want to focus on a very perplexing case: Wedge Antilles’ wives, Iella Wessiri and Norra Wexley. These two women have a lot in common including personality, skills, and keystone life events. This is where the similarities diverge. So the question is: is there enough similarity between Iella and Norra to reconcile them into a single character, from a One Canon or legends/canon merge perspective?

Let's break down the life history of Iella first:
    • Native Corellian born at unknown date; probably the same age as Corran Horn (18bby)
    • Joined CorSec in 1bby
    • Married Diric Wessiri at unknown date; Diric was 20 years older than Iella?
    • Fled to Coruscant between 4-6aby? Took fake names
    • Diric separated from Iella in 6aby and sent to the Lusankya; thought dead
    • Became an intelligence operative for the Republic in 7aby; Diric returns, brainwashed; Iella puts him out of his misery
    • Served at Thyferra, Coruscant, and Adumar; began to fall in love with Wedge Antilles in 6aby and married in 14aby (no source on Wookieepedia for this?)
    • Conceived two children with Wedge: Syal and Myri Antilles (17 and 18aby respectively)
    • Retired to Corellia by 40aby with her family, returned to Intelligence during the Second GCW

    Now we have Norra:
    • Native Akivan born at unknown date; has an older sister named Esmelle Susser
    • Married Brentin Wexley at an unknown date; Brentin was a rebel prior to 2bby
    • Conceived one child with Brentin: Temmin (11bby)
    • Brentin captured and imprisoned by Empire in 1aby; Norra joined the Rebel Alliance as a pilot
    • Returned to Akiva in 4aby
    • Breakout at Ashmead's Lock in 5aby; Brentin along with other prisoners are made to attack the New Republic (brainwashed?)
    • Served at Battle of Jakku in 5aby; Brentin died in battle
    • Married Wedge Antilles at an unknown date
    • Retired to Akiva with Wedge in 34aby; returned to service following the Battle of Crait
A strict One Canon interpretation sees all of the post-4aby dates pushed forward by 7 years in this timeline. However, I would also argue that the dates including Temmin's birth and Brentin's imprisonment should also be pushed forward so as to maintain Temmin's age as a 15-year old at the Battle of Jakku. This means that Norra probably didn't serve at Endor in the One Canon.

I think that there's a lot of similarities between Norra and Iella's lives that might lead someone to want their biographies merged somehow, especially given that they're both Wedge's wives in different continuities, but the details surrounding Diric and Brentin's brainwashings and the careers of the characters don't appear to line up at first glance. So what's the solution? Is Wedge a bigamist? Is Fake Wedge involved? Was Mister Bones actually HK-47?

My interpretation of Star Wars has always been that it is a mythology, and as mythologies evolve characters can be invented or split off from old ones. Iella and Norra share a mythological ancestor in their roles, and it is my goal to find the purest parts of their backstories so that they can be merged. Here is my rough interpretation of the life history regarding Iella Norra Susser, later Wessiri, Wexley, and even later Antilles.
    • Native Corellian, date unknown
    • Married Brentin Lore Wessiri in 5bby; he was a philosopher and rebel sympathizer before the Alliance formed
    • Conceived Temmin Wessiri in 4bby
    • Joined CorSec in 1bby
    • Fled to Coruscant in 4aby, family name changed to Wexley; Iella started going by Norra and Brentin by Diric
    • Diric taken to Lusankya in 6aby, later transferred to Ashmead's Lock
    • Became an Intelligence operative in 7aby; Diric (actually a clone!) resurfaces, killed
    • Under the Norra Wexley name, Iella began service as a pilot in 8aby; continued Intelligence operations concurrently with the Norra Wexley persona; places Temmin in care with aunts Esmelle and Shirene on planet Akiva
    • Returns to Akiva in 11aby shortly after Battle of Onderon
    • Breakout at Ashmead's Lock in 12aby; Diric/Brentin (the real one) reappears, brainwashed
    • Served at the Battle of Jakku in 12aby; Diric/Brentin died in battle
    • Served at Thyferra, Coruscant, and Adumar; began to fall in love with Wedge Antilles in 6aby and married in 14aby
    • Conceived two children with Wedge: Syal and Myri Antilles (17 and 18aby respectively)
    • Retired to Corellia by 36aby with her family, returned to Intelligence during the Second GCW
    • Relocated to Akiva with Wedge by 41aby; once again exited retirement after Temmin and his wife visited
I'm taking advantage of two elements in Iella's life here and using them to reinvent Norra's life: those being Ysanne Isard's proclivity towards using clones (the two deaths of Diric), and Iella's common use of fake names and identities. It's somewhat cliche, but I think that short of just assuming Wedge married Norra post-Mercy Kill (which will undoubtedly be contradicted in a future canon entry) it does a good job of integrating these two characters into one for a single canon.

Of course, you'd probably need to do a huge chop job on the actual text of the novels this would be retconning...

Interesting. I was initially against the idea of merging them, for the reasons you stated above, but then your breakdown of how it could work actually convinced me. I'm for it.

I think Wedge being married to Norra in the new canon ended any attempt to reconcile Canon and Legends into One single Timeline now.

Geonosis and Anaxes getting wasted didn't do that already? IMO a multiverse is fine.

One more thought on the canonical marriage of Wedge and Norra: at least going by his Legends birth date, Wedge is only 10 years older than Temmin. Norra is consistently depicted in canon as a middle-aged woman, assuming that the silver hair is her natural color. I'm not saying that marrying someone that much older is unheard of or bad, but I find it to be a curious thing.

Temmin's wife Karé is about 15 years younger than him. Maybe Wexleys just like their spouses young.

Well the Horns and Halcyons may have a word on this to say... but last I heard from the Medstar Duology Corellian marriage and outside marriage coupling has some weirdo traditions not talked about ;)

Have I done a piece on a revised Horn/Halcyon timeline yet? I know I tried to reconcile the COPL timeline for the Solo family on the first page of this thread. I’ll go look at my notes.

There's nothing concrete, but considering that characters from 4000 years ago always seem to have their bloodlines become relevant in the post-ROTJ era, I suppose it's possible. Exar Kun is canon now so maybe it'll be referenced later on?

Only if you take FFG stuff as canon. Even Wookieepedia is somewhat divided on the subject - it gives some FFG products the canon tag:

    https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/No_Disintegrations_(Fantasy_Flight_Games)

    and others the Legends tag

    https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Fly_Casual

and there's no rhyme or reason behind it.

That's surprising--I always thought that Wookieepedia had a good grasp on determining fact from speculation/canon from non-canon.

    On another topic...

Regarding the Antilles family tree as discussed on page 8, I was recently made aware of two facts about Revenge of the Sith: first being that George Lucas asked Denis Lawson to play Raymus Antilles as a cameo role but Lawson turned it down. The second being that in The Art of Revenge of the Sith, there is a drawing by Sang Jun Lee named "Wedge Antilles' Father." I don't own the book, so I don't know what this drawing looks like.

In my mind, however, this confirms to me that Lucas intended for a blood relation between Raymus and Wedge. It's not unlikely that in Lucas's mind they were father and son, regardless of Jagged Antilles in the X-Wing comics. I don't think this really impacts our in-progress family tree because it's incompatible with both Legends and Canon, but if someone wants to speculate that either Jagged or Zena were actually from Alderaan and that Raymus is Wedge's uncle, then have at it.

It usually does. FFG is the biggest exception - some Wookieepedians don't seem to get that appearing in an FFG book doesn't mean "crossing over from Legends to Newcanon".

Woah! How could I not stumble upon this Art of / cameo turned down revelation earlier? Big thx for finding this!

Raymus Antilles as Wedge's dad is interesting.

I still struggle to accept that ROTS Raymus and ANH Raymus are supposed to be very different looking and aged yet the same character. I prefered the old retcon that ANH one was ROTS ones son.

    Quote from wook:
The name Colton Antilles is given for Raymus Antilles in some sources, leading some fans to believe that the Captain Antilles in A New Hope is a separate character named Colton Antilles, possibly named after the Captain Colton in Revenge of the Sith. However, Leland Chee has confirmed that both Captains Antilles are meant to be the same person.[3][4]

Leeeeeland how could you ruin a perfect retcon!

Anyway Raymus being Wedge's uncle and Colton his cousin would be sweet!

    Which sources would these be?

I personally see the Rogue One/ANH Captain Antilles as a middle-aged character, but he looks nothing like the ROTS Captain Antilles. Then again, recasting isn't very important in an interpretation of a mythological work, right? So I can buy them being the same character even if the actors don't resemble each other.

I'm torn. I need to get my hands on a copy of the Art of Revenge of the Sith and see the concept art of Wedge's father myself. I want to respect George's ideas; if he says Raymus (assuming the concept art looks like Raymus) is the father of Wedge, then under Legends that's a G-Canon proclamation. But if so, then how do we explain Jagged and Zena Antilles?

So I found the relevant piece of concept art:

It certainly looks like Denis Lawson circa the 2000s. However, the outfit doesn't really resemble Raymus (who wears a near-identical costume to Bail Organa.) It looks more like Tarkin's outfit, honestly. That being said: the concept art is dated to 1/31/2003, five months before filming Revenge of the Sith. According to an unsourced Wookieepedia quote, Rohan Nichol was eyed by Lucas for the part originally, but then Denis Lawson was contacted and he turned down Lucas down. Nichol was then selected for the role. Anyone know when casting was announced for Episode III?

So we have the likeness of Denis Lawson being used to create art of Wedge Antilles' father... and then Denis Lawson was contacted to play a character named Raymus Antilles. Personally, that's all the confirmation I need that at one point or another, George Lucas intended Raymus and Wedge to be blood relatives.

I don't get why Rohan Nichol didn't come back to play Antilles in Rogue One. Instead they cast a third guy.

At this point the character could well be a shapeshifter :p

Or someone used the nanodroids that can alter your appearance from TCW on him!

Or, GFFA medtech in its prime really shows how rejuvenation can work!

Called a throne of Regnal name something that happens in the real world sometimes, a modern example is George VI of Great Britian(father of the current monarch), whose birth name was Albert.

In legends the Nubian monarchy was initaly an elected one before becoming dynastic for a few thousand years and then reverting to an elective monarchy again about 100 years before TpM as Padme is the third elected ruler since the end of the restoration of the elective sysyem. It's likely that even during the dynastic era the government of Naboo probably kept some traditions associated with the ancient elective practices as we see in the traditions of Real World England where the Monarchy during the Saxon era was once quasi- elective( kings were chosen from amongst the adult males of royal blood by the Witan, or Council of Earls and Alderman, hence Alfred the Great followed his brother despite his brother having living sons)

You’d think that would have been the destruction of the Jedi Order or Han and Leia splitting up, or Han and Leia only having one kid, Luke dying, Han dying, Chewie living etc etc etc. any ability to fit all of legends and canon into one universe was dead in 2015 with TFA.

Certain people have tried to reconcile for years. See Sinrebirth's One Canon thread for more info.

Me personally. I still keep the original Clone Wars cartoon series (2003-2005) in the Canon timeline because perfect introduction for Ventress and Grievous.

I am not saying it’s impossible just that if Wedge and Norra being the reason you stopped trying I think you should have stopped trying a long time ago.
