    :D

When u say Bombay, is it this one?

    Bombay (1995)

Bombay, a love story between a Hindu boy and a Muslim girl against the backdrop of the Bombay riots of 1993, again released nationwide but ran into controversy as the film was released in Bombay only after getting clearance from Shiv Sena Chief Bal Thackeray. The film was attacked for its anti-Muslim stand, its misrepresentation of widely reported events in order to blame the Muslims for having started the riots and for its tendency to equate the 'voice of reason' with Hindu majority. But all the controversy helped the film as it scored heavily at the box-office.

Seemed to be called Bumbai on here - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0112553/
But Bombay is now Mumbai, so I'm confused lol.

I haven't seen it tbh, but it sounds very interesting, very much like a similar film to Earth, just set in 1990s (both based on real events).

Have you ever seen Monsoon Wedding? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0265343/
It's one I wanted to watch, though I am not sure about buying as I keep looking at my limited space in my room and seeing it vanish. I am thinking I'll wait for Water to come out, and get the hattrick of Fire, Water and Ice ... I mean Earth on a special collectors pack that I hope they will do. The first two at least deserve it, I have a feeling Water will too. :p I wonder what happened to Wind, maybe the idea blew away :D

Oh bad joke Tim, bad joke. :p I thought it was only going to be a trilogy? Oh well, probably because she's had so much trouble with this one, its a shame but understandable. Tentative release date I have at the moment is 28th April.:D

Yeah, thats the Bombay I'm talking about. I think Indians themselves are confused about all the name changing, and they still refer to Bombay as Bomday most of the time. Also try pronouncing Bangalore's new (or rather old, now re-instated name), yikes!

I [face_love] Monsoon Wedding. Got it off Amazon for like £4. Hehe.

Google dotcom may be facing some tough questions from Bollywood entrepreneurs with its newly established video-viewing site. Several popular Hindi movies are on the site to be viewed free of cost.

Ken Naz, CEO of Erosentertainment, North America division, spoke to IANS regarding the Google video site offering Hindi movies.

"It's illegal, it is not allowed. It is totally illegal. There are laws, which we'll be going after.... I think there should be more write-ups about it."

Hindi films like Bunty Aur Babli, Paheli, Neal 'N' Nikkii, Ek Khilari Ek Hasina are all on the website

IANS went to the Google website and viewed some of these freely available videos that included movies like Neal 'N' Niki and Swades, all fairly recent releases. IANS contacted Google by phone as well e-mail but did not receive any response.

Indian American entrepreneurs related to Bollywood are fuming over what they allege is an infringement of the copyright of moviemakers similar to the famous case of Napster which lost a battle in court against the American music industry when it allowed its software to be used for free music downloads from the Web and sharing of materials.

"Google Video allows users to upload, store and distribute videos for free or for a fee," Sunil Thakur, founder of WahIndia!, a website that syndicates its entertainment segments online to sites like Sify and Planetguru and has been in existence for two and a half years now.

Google's new video-viewing site hosts several Hindi films for free viewing. Recent releases like Bunty Aur Babli, Paheli, Neal 'N' Niki, Ek Khilari Ek Hasina are all on the website.
"This mechanism is now abused heavily by users for Bollywood films, music videos, and directly infringes on original rights holders' property," he said, adding that Google puts the burden of monitoring and policing their video site on the original rights holder.

In communications he had with Google through an associate who works there, Thakur said he received a response in which Google suggest he "contact the user directly", to remove content, or "file a complaint" using standard form to contact Google Video.

Because WahIndia! depends heavily for revenue from legally contracting with Bollywood moviemakers and uses materials from that industry to make its syndicated shows, "We feel the pain, and we know the pain of the industry," Thakur said.

"These users (that Google asks us to contact) are usually untraceable and could be from anywhere in the world.

"While one waits for the issue to resolve, the filmmaker could be losing real money as new releases are downloaded and passed around on PC, iPOD, Sony PSP," Thakur complained.

"It doesn't look like Google has given much consideration to the copyright laws of other countries. I'm sure they have protections in place for Hollywood films, but they don't seem to care about Bollywood," said Vivek Wadhwa, director of Duke University's Engineering Management Program, who has been involved in the making of Bollywood Bride, an Indian and American co-production.

"Hollywood is well organised and they would pursue Google as aggressively as they did Napster. But Bollywood doesn't have the resources to launch these types of lawsuits. So this creates yet another piracy threat to Bollywood. And now anyone can watch a pirated movie," Wadhwa maintained.

Right now you can download Bollywood films through file shar

Heh, yeah. But I think I would feel peeved if something I made was ripped and distributed by some freeloader (who is profiting from my work too) :p Unless I offered it free first. Do Bollywood films get the ok from the US film studios when they rip the idea of a Hollywood film btw, or does Bollywood not care about ouright plagerism? I am guessing the latter, or thru the use of a legal loophole, Hollywood doesn't feel it can prosecute and win.

Earth was £15 in Virgin today. I'll wait still I think. And they are worried about Bollywood movies appearing on PSP? Well bring them out on PSP!! And for a reasonable price. I noticed some of the upcoming films on UMD later this year (Ice Age, Aliens) are £16 not £20, and further discounted on Amazon, so maybe that is the start of cheaper UMDs. Boy would I snap up Earth and Fire if they came out on UMD.

No, most BW films are more inspired by HW than outright copies. I mean 04's hit film 'Hum Tum' (which I love, a lot) is When Harry Met Sally if you really think about it. But has notable plot changes etc. so as not to make it obvious that its a remake of WHMS.

And there are a lot of original films coming out of BW so... (Dil Se, Devdas, Parineeta, Paheli, Bombay...)

OK, I am sooo lost and not up to date w/ technology. UMD - whats that? And no, BW shouldn't bring 'em out yet. Not until Eros has figured out that a) I DON'T want 10 minutes of inescapable trailers before I get to the main menu, I've already got those films in my collection already! and b) Good, 5.1 sound! on ALL DVDs.
