The idea of the goverment outlawing superheroes seems to come from Watchmen, but I don't know if any of the movie creators have read that. Plus, the idea of a supervillian posing as a superhero, while not a original idea also, seems to come from the Thunderbolts.

Oh, I got the impression that they've read their share of comics. One of my favorite nods was the Underminer, who is obviously Moleman. Also, Syndrome was pretty close to Dr. Doom in some ways, which was fun.

Trust me, Brad Bird knows his comics.

I was disappointed by the lack of extra material at the end other then some neat looking drawings.

I'd say that if there were outtakes or something for the credits made, but they didn't include them for the opening weekends.

Instead, Disney will almost certainly add them in in a few weeks in time to advertise for the Thanksgiving holiday as an incentive to get people to go see it again. That's what they did for Toy Story 2, as I recall.

..well, i saw it for the second time in two days, last night..

This just might be my top film of the year, it's THAT good..

And ya know, this is the first time that i've EVER found a character with the powers of STRETCH ARMSTRONG to be cool...

Seriously, why don't more comicbook writers have the imagination that Bird did with Elastigirl? That bit with the doors was terrific...

ALL of the action in the Incredibles was, well, incredible. The coreography was brilliant as was their teamwork. Not to mention the strong characters and emotional ties between them was outstanding. For example, when Bob found out that his family had just gotten "killed" you really did think for a second that he would snap Mirage like a twig.

Comic industry, you just got owned. Now go back to the drawing board and try to top the Incredibles.

    Totally agree.

I think when Elasti-Girl says something like "They just want to everyone to be special." and Dash reples "Which means noone is." is very true. And so is Mr. Incredibles line about "Celebrating mediocrity".

I caught it for a second time this weekend and I liked it even more the second time. The cape sequence is hilarious. I think Jason Lee did a great job as Syndrome, my new favorite vilain.

Well, I saw it Friday night--LOVED it. It's currently tied with Finding Nemo for my favorite Pixar movie :D

There are endless things I could say about the film, but I'll say this: the magic comes from the fact that these characters are so real and endearing that I'll be referring to them by their real names instead of their superhero names--yes, I will always know Mr. Incredible as Bob Parr, and Elastigirl as Helen Parr... heck, I don't even REMEMBER if Violet and Dash have superhero names of their own.

When Helen warns Violet and Dash that the bad guys aren't like the ones seen on Saturday morning and that they're out to kill them, a fair amount of wiseasses may remark about how ironic such a scene be seen on an animated movie... but the fact of the matter is that The Incredibles is infinitely more real and human than the live-action junk we've seen both many years ago and just recently. It is also ironically FAR MORE LOYAL to the spirit of comic books than the comic book industry it lampoons.

Depends. What is the spirit of comic books? It might be accurate to say that it?s accurate to the spirit of Silver Age comics, but saying ?spirit of comic books? is like saying ?spirit of television? or ?spirit of novels?. No one should deny that in general, comics are different than they were in the Silver Age - but the Marvel Age line and DC?s New Frontier are worth a look if you like that era. But that they?re generally different doesn?t mean that they?ve betrayed an arbitrary idea of what the ?spirit of comic books? is supposed to be.

If you?re going to talk about comics in those rigid terms, I might as well say that the Incredibles is absolutely nothing like the spirit of comics ? as the best representations of the spirit of comics are found in the likes of Sandman, Swamp Thing, Constantine, Lucifer, and Fables.

I was only mildly amused at this movie. I found it extremely predictable. I don't know what else to say.

For me, it's down there with A Bugs Life as Pixar films I liked, but won't watch again.

I got a bigger kick out of the "shaved lamb" short.

The Incredibles is why I love movies and keep going to seem them. Every once in awhile you find that one movie that cuts through the usual trappings and routine and sweeps you up into a different world and gets you involved in the characters and what they are going through, a movie where you don't look at the time once. :p Its a great feeling that probably only happens about once or twice a year now. The Incredibles is that movie this year. Its easily the best movie I've seen this year.

I just saw this tonight. I'd give it a 9/10, definitely something I'll be considering getting the DVD for.

Firstly, I loved all the tech designs. The ships just flat out looked cool. The ZPE capture thingamabob, the probe, the message tablet/scanner, were all very cool.

The bits with Edna were also good. I loved the sequence where she's showing off the costume she made for the baby, and the chamber fills with this hellish inferno. :D
Then there's the bit about capes - so true.

The characters were good, and although they were a bit archetypal, they fit with the story.

The movie itself seemed to really work. I liked especially how Mr.Incredible (Sorry, don't remember his secret-identity name) made the comment about the learning AI getting smart enough to turn against its master (How many times has that been used before), then you learn that it DIDN'T turn against its master, then you learn that it DID.
My only complaint about the end sequence was that the robot seemed to get dumb, and not try to destroy the controller or stop receiving its signals.

And of course, the bit with Frozon and Mr.Incredible sitting in the car as their alter egos was funny, realistic, and insightful, all at the same time.

Finally, on the topic of SW references in the movie:
    4) The early part of the chase looked a lot like the scenes from the speeder chase
    5) The part where the pilot of one of the cutters turns and yells right before hitting a rock - same as in ROTJ
    6) The chase through the rocks reminded me of the asteroid chase in ESB
    7) When one of the cutters broke off to go over the tunnel, it reminded me of something that I can't quite recall. But regardless, the tunnel could've been a reference to The Last Crusade...or just a dramatic tool. ;)
    8) Towards the end of the chase, Dashiell's swing on the vine seemed reminiscent of Wikket's
    9) Bomb Voyage could be a reference to Atlantis (I haven't seen it, but I remember reading somewhere that it had a character who was an expert on explosives, and also obviously French)

JMZ, I dunno, I thought 2 sounded a lot like the speeders used on Endor rather than pod racers. But that is just my opinion. :p Also, there were a lot of references to other movies, like various Bond movies (the moving pods and rocket launching from within a mountain from You only live Twice. The tunnel filling with flames, chasing the heros out from Moonraker, for example).

Other than that, I will have to say, this was one of the better Pixar movies that I have seen. I agree that I am strongly considering getting the DVD when it comes out. Very good movie.

Haha! Check out the post I made earlier tonight in the James Bond Thread. I said the villain's lair was very reminiscent of Ken Adam's production design from You Only Live Twice. I also thought the score (at least in the action parts where I noticed the score) sounded very John Barry-esque. It reminded me of Thunderball with its use of all those horns.

    Great minds think alike, eh?

TheFoolWhoFollowsHim, you're right about great minds do think alike. And I would agree with the comment you made about the soundtrack. The inner monologue bit was also another Bond spoof, not to mention something from Austin Powers.

I have not seen it yet.
I did see a spot on Cars and it did not look that good or creative.
    It seemed odd.

Heh, I thought that the soundtrack was a little reminesent of Bond at times, although I've not seen many movies to compare the "sets"

Loved some of the Star Wars-esk moments in there though.

One of the best movies of the year. I think that it is insanely clever. And they dropped the whole kiddy thing and adopted a newer and more adult style. It was awesome. The graphics were simply amazing. I actually forgot at times that it wasn't just really, really, really good makeup. Plus, Jason Lee's voice is in it. I love that guy. Oh, and I didn't get to see the ROTS trailer. TOo bad.
