For anyone that thinks that Jar Jar is the worst sci fi character in film history, may I present you exhibit A: I rest my case.
Hey! Ruby Rhod is fabulous Like his spiritual successor, Jar Jar Binks, he enriched his world and doubled, nay, tripled its awesomeness!
Jar Jars a cool controversial character. It was weird finding how much he was hated on the internet because most people I discuss SW with in real life they like Jar Jar and he's their favorite character.
I've always liked Jar Jar. I never could understand how people were fine with 2 droids arguing in a desert with one of them only being able to communicate by beeping, or a 7+ feet tall bigfoot, or a 2 feet tall little green dude with big ears being silly, or teddy bears defeating the Empire, but then they saw silly Jar Jar and thought he was way over the line and stupid. It just showed me that a lot of fans must have been stuck in their own personal nostalgia from their childhoods to not see the many similarities between certain things and characters of both trilogies. Star Wars itself was meant to be a light hearted and fun film that the whole family could see, and I think that Jar Jar is a perfect example of that. As are the Droids, Chewie, Yoda, and the Ewoks.
The humour in the OT is aimed at all ages including children. The humour in the PT, particularly Jar Jar's slapstick seems specifically aimed at 5 year olds. Big difference.
And that would not be a problem if there was no assumption that everything has to appeal to a teenage or young adult male first.
That should be the assumption. Poo & fart jokes & childish slapstick were conspicuously absent from the OT. Bizarre decision to include them when you want to get new young fans but also entertain your loyal now adult fan base.
Ruby Rhod is what I imagine people see when they complain about or deride Jar Jar. And if anyone likes Ruby Rhod but hates Jar Jar -- well...
Indeed. I will celebrate a scene in TPM when Jar Jar leaves Watto's storefront, he clumsily turns left then right then spins around to exit to the left. There is the effect his long ear has when it fluidly wraps around Jar Jar when this happens that still astonishes me today. It looked and looks so real even today.
No. Preach to me more about the miracle of Jar Jar Binks. Especially his ears. Some might say, his most erotic feature.
No sarcasm at all intended. I've never really minded Jar Jar. He didn't really influence the story besides being used as a pawn in AOTC, but his presence has never really been the big issue for me. Enjoy your coffee.
I love sarcasm. I love the Republic. Nice. Bell-bottomed amphibians need love. Gungan coffee beans. The best!
Ummm, no. His tongue is erotic and he wants to devour Zonama Sekot in a passionate act of love, once he grows big enough for a planet. I am starting to confuse my crack!fic with canon...
Vice.com's interview with Amhed Best. He's a stellar human being, and no, he hasn't talked to J.J. Abrams about The Force Awakens. Read article here. One of the questions was, "Why didn't you say no?" Like any Star Wars fan is going to turn down the chance to be in a Star Wars movie! Amhed is also my hero for trying his best to shield Jake Lloyd from all the hate. Amhed was in his twenties, he could handle it, but Jake was eight at the time. He's a great guy who did not deserve to have his character hated by this fandom.
There was at least one fart and one burp in ROTJ . Jar Jar antics were fine and I hope I don't have to tell you how often Stormtroopers have been making idiots out of themselves in E IV-VI . Some couldn't even open a damn door in ANH .
Can you stop putting those spaces in wrong places? Love your posts, but that sort of...hurts. *hides*
Sorry , I guess I have to watch out the next time . I guess I should get Tapatalk in the near future .
A burping frog & a burping sarlacc. Where did I miss the fart joke? Some incompetence is different to puerile fart & poop jokes. The Battledroids' over the top incompetence & slapstick is a whole other matter. A character stepping in **** & saying "icky icky goo!" is one of the low points of the Saga. Little kids think it's funny. Then they reach the age of 10 & think it's lame.
