sorry for the delay. Three comp crashes tend to do that to you. :( that said...

    Ye Olde What's Wrong List:

    Gryffindor -

"real" house cup is the one in the book, not this game.

    Slytherin -

still can't see the background image for your board scheme. and how on earth did you get a pic to be a .txt? ?[face_plain]

    Hufflepuff -

when I said "rewrite" the plot, I didn't mean just place HP character names there instead of the play's chracter names. and same with the poem. It needs more than just a few lines changed.

    Current Scores:

    Gryffindor: 920
    Ravenclaw: 535
    Hufflepuff: 185
    Slytherin: 140

the second one goes to a scheme that I don't think I uploaded yet...

I can't get into the webhosting that I used for the original scheme(s) and I realized that I forgot to upload the backgrounds, so I "borrowed" some of my dear sister's webspace to upload the background(s). I provided links and they were just posted, so I guess it doesn't matter. ;)

Hullo to all my fellow Gryffindors...according to Joe, I haven't been on the boards in five days. And that's probably true--I have been absolutely swamped with schoolwork, as we have finals next week and so all the teachers have decided to drop all these tests and papers and essays and stuff on us. However, I am not dropping out; I should be able to get a ton of work done over Thanksgiving, as we've an eight-hour drive to get up to where we all go for the holiday...and once I'm there, I've always got a ton of free time. I should be able to get a couple things posted, too, since [yay!!!] my great-aunt and -uncle finally got a computer [yay!!!] last year, and it has Internet access [yay!!!] and my mom is unlocking my account for the holiday [yay!!!]...and that was a really long sentence [^^;;;;]. Heh. But, yeah...I am still alive. Just really, really, really, really, really, really tired. And busy.

    Book Tasks

    Book Task

JKR has yet to mention that werewolves are allergic to silver. Are werewolves in the HP-verse adverse to silver? Why or why not? Explain your reasoning. 20 points.

Although J.K. has said that she is not always going to stay exactly true to common myths, folk lore and legends, there are a few clues that indicate that Werewolves may be hurt by silver. Peter Pettigrew, when granted a new arm by his master Voldemort, was given a silver one. The symbolism of this is very clear if J.K. is planning to stay true to the story of Werewolves. Lupin and Pettigrew, once friends, now enemies, are each others opposites. Previous to having his silver arm, Wormtail was basically powerless against Moony. However, WITH the silver arm, Wormtail now has a real weapon against Moony and may be considered a Sirius adversery.

    Book Task

What House would each of the four Dursleys be in? Explain your reasoning. 20 points.

Vernon: he is one of the most cruel hearted men in JKR's series, although he is very clever at keeping Harry away from the wizard, therefore resulting in himself being in Slytherin's house.

Petunia: Slytherin as well because she is full of tricks, devious, and just as awful to Harry as Vernon is.

Dudley: he's full of darkness and cares about no one who doesn't give him what he wants or worshipps him, therefore landing himself in the Slytherin house.

Marge: Like the others, she only thinks of herself. She insults Harry's parents to his face and cares for her dogs more than people. In the end, this cruelty and selfishness would also end her in Slytherin.

    Book Task

How did the Death Eaters know where to Apparate to on the night of the third Task? How were they able to find Voldemort? 20 points.

All living things radiate a unique aura. Owls are born with the ability to recognize and find individuals no matter where they may be. Wizards must learn to do this in order to apparate, that is why underage wizards are not allowed to do this, it is very difficult. Based on this aura a wizard can apparate wherever he chooses in relation to it. The scar that the Death Eaters wear serves only as a signal that it is time to gather. Based on their placement in Voldemort's ring, they know where in relation to Voldemort's aura they must apparate, and are thus able to arrive in their proper place.

    House Pride Tasks

    House Pride

What is your Head of House?s greatest fear and why? 10 points.

More than anything, McGonagall fears that Hogwarts will have to be closed in the increasingly dark times. As a professor and a head of house, Hogwarts is McGonagall's life and her true home. But in the increasingly dark times, she fears that the school will be closed, as it nearly was in CoS. And with the death of Cedric, the danger to the school and it's students is increasing. McGonagall fears that one day Voldemort's power will even more to the point that if will be unsafe for the students to remain, and her life as she knows it will be over.

    House Pride

What is your Head of House?s favorite hex? Why? 10 points.

McGonagall prefers using the Confundus charm. She is a teacher, not a warrior and is uncomfortable using charms that cause physical harm. By using the Confundus charm, she can confuse her enemies, allowing her and any others to get away while not hurting the enemy.

    House Pride

What would your Head of House?s memoir be titled? Why? 10 points.

McGonagall would call her memoir "Hogwarts Then and Now: A Personal Reflection" As a student, McGonagall spent seven wonderful years at Hogwarts and was delighted to return shortly thereafter first as a teacher and then a head of house as well. The majority of her life has been spent at Hogwarts and therefore her memoirs would predominantly feature the school.

    House Pride

According to your Head of House, is the glass half full or half empty? Explain wh

    The Books

How did Remus become a werewolf? What were the circumstances behind his contracting lycanthropy? 20 points

A very young Remus Lupin was sitting comfortably on his bed when he realized something was missing, his stuffed rabbit, which he had been playing earlier with outside. Rather than sleep without his favorite stuffed animal, he ran downstairs and opened the door (all without his parents noticing, of course). He ran through the garden and picked up his rabbit. Little did he know that a werewolf was stalking about around the house. He turned around just in time to witness the beast jump on top of him and sink its teeth into his shoulder. Remus' father runs outside when he hears Remus' call for help. He manages to get the werewolf off his son, and takes Remus inside the house. His father stopped his son from getting killed, but not from contracting lycanthropy and turning into werewolf every full moon.

Are wizards a genetic mutation of humans or are humans a genetic mutation of wizards? Explain your reasoning. 25 points

Humans are a genetic "mutation" of wizards. From wizards came "squibs" like our dear Filch, who are of wizards blood, but are not able to use magic. Some squibs were embarresed and decided against learning about magic. From squibs eventually came humans. Once in a while, the magic in the blood that is passed down will become active and that person will be able to become a wizard, but most remain human.

    THINGS TO COME:

Speculation: Why is Order of the Phoenix (the Order itself, not the book) so called? 20 points.

Evil is never vanquished, which is why the Order was created. When one menace comes, the Order will defend others against it. When that menace is defeated, the Order dies down, like a Phoenix bursting into flames and dying. But when a new opponent comes around the Order will come back to life from the ashes and do what it must to defeat this new threat.

    THE CREATIVE SPIRIT:

Make a House Cheer. Make as many as desired. 10 points

    Quaerite Fidelitatem Et Invenies Nos
(Latin for "search for loyalty and you will find us")

Take any well-known poem (well-known: can be found by doing a simple google search on any of its lines) and change it so that, while still recognizable as that poem, it speaks of your house. May do as many as desired. 30 points. (I hope this is better)

"O Captain! My Captain!" by Walt Whitman (again)

O Captain! My Captain! your trip, I fear, is done,
You've finished but one task, the prize you sought is won,
You are near, the cheers I hear, the students all exulting,
While follow you, the others thru the maze grim and daring
    But O No! No! No!
    O forthcoming word of dread,
I come to the grass my Captain lies,
    Fallen cold and dead.

O Captain! My Captain! Can you not hear our yells?
Rise up-for you our banners are flung-for you our voices bell,
For you our praise my departed friend-for you the grass is crowding,
For you we call, the student mass, our many faces wanting
    Here Captain! dear Brother!
We shall wait to the end!
Must you lay on this very grass,
    Fallen cold and dead.

My Captain will not answer, his voice we do not hear,
My brother can not feel my arm nor feel my falling tears,
The cup is back safe and sound, the game closed and done,
From fearful hedge the Gryffindor comes in with object won
Exult O stands and cheer those yells
But I yet dare to tread
On the grass my dear friend lies,
    Fallen cold and dead.

    GO HUFFLEPUFF!

    Tasks:

The Books: What is the current password to Dumbledore?s office? Why? 5 points.
Ton Tongue Toffee because he usually uses candy for his passwords and he?s amused by the Weasleys.

The Books: What is the current password to the Slytherin dormitory? Why? 5 points.
Dark Mark because many Slytherins are going to be allied with Voldemort.

The Books: If Petunia had been the witch instead of
Lily, would Lily have resented and despised
her sister the way Petunia despised Lily?
    Explain your reasoning. 10 points.

If Petunia had been the witch, Lily wouldn't have resented despised her sister because Lily was sorted into Gryffindor based on her character (which was part of her before she learned that she was a witch and presumably would still be part of her character had she not been a witch).

The Books: Why was Lily allowed to do magic over holidays when she was at Hogwarts? 10 points.

Because she was part of the forces fighting Voldemort and would need to be able to protect herself, fight against Voldie, and practice the skills that she would need to fight him.

The Books: Should the person who sued JKR be
hanged for delaying the release of Order of
    the Phoenix? 10 points.
Yes, because that person deprived countless children of the joy of Harry Potter.

Which is the more evil: Darth Vader, Emperor Palpatine, or Lord Voldemort? Explain your reasoning. 15 points.
    From Evilest to evil:
First Darth Vader he slaughters innocent little Jedi Padawans.
Then Voldemort He tried to Kill Harry.
And last The Emperor he's just naturally evil.

    Explain the circumstances behind
    Lockhart's becoming a con artist. 15 points.
Lockhart has been vain all his life and just wanted more attention he started coning people so he could be more noticed and more money.

How did the Four Marauders meet? 15 points.
I think the Four Marauders all met when they were very young as they all lived in the same village.

Why did Hagrid name a three-headed dog
"Fluffy"? What was going through his mind
    at the time? 15 points.
Hagrid had just come back from Woodstock, totally stoned, and awoken in his cabin totally smashed and with a Giant three-headed dog. Not being able to see straight or think right he thought the dog was his childhood pet poodle, "Fluffy" hich he called the dog once he was sober.

If Harry just a delusional little boy and are
the books just his mad fantasies? (Click here to read
the phenomenal fic that inspired this Task).
    Explain your reasoning. 15 points.
No, how could someone dream or fantasise all that. It's not like Miss JKR will make the last line of the book "And Harry woke from a 7 year dream."

JKR has yet to mention that werewolves are
allergic to silver. Are werewolves in
the HP-verse adverse to silver? Why or why
not? Explain your reasoning. 20 points.
I don't think JKR will explain this as I don't think we will be seeing many more werewolves but they might be so I am saying yes.

The Books: What House would each of the four
Dursleys be in? Explain your reasoning. 20 points.

Dudley - Slytherin because he has a fairly malicious personality. He's always plotting something evil to do to Harry.
    Petunia - Hufflepuff because she's a follower.
Vernon - Slytherin because he does whatever he can to make Harry miserable.
Aunt Marge - Slytherin because she's full of hate for people who are different.

    Speculation: Why does Voldemort fear
    Dumbledore? Will his fear evaporate
completely in the books to come? 10 points.
Voldemort is the Heir of Slytherin and it's possible that Dumbledore is the Heir of Gryffindor. Also, Dumbledore is more powerful that Voldemort, and Voldemort knows th

    The Books

Give a quote from Sorcerer's Stone that is so integral to the plot that taking it out would make the book no longer be the same? Explain your reasoning behind your choice. 10 points.

""Hmm," said a small voice in his ear. "Difficult. Very difficult. Plenty of courage, I see. Not a bad mind either. There's talent, ah my goodness, yes -- and a nice thirst to prove yourself, now that's interesting.... So where shall I put you?" Harry gripped the edges of the stool and thought, Not Slytherin, not Slytherin.

"Not Slytherin, eh?" said the small voice. "Are you sure? You could be great, you know, it's all here in your head, and Slytherin will help you on the way to greatness, no doubt about that -- no? Well, if you're sure -- better be GRYFFINDOR!"

Harry heard the hat shout the last word to the whole hall. He took off the hat and walked shakily toward the Gryffindor table. He was so relieved to have been chosen and not put in Slytherin, he hardly noticed that he was getting the loudest cheer yet. " (Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone, page 121)

Without this quote, the book would have been very different, especially if the Sorting Hat had placed Harry in Slytherin House. He never would have met and become friends with Ron and Hermione, but we would have seen him desperately trying to fend off Malfoy nearly every day. Who knows, Harry may even have turned to Voldemort's teachings and become an evil, Muggle-hating wizard.

What is the current password to
    Dumbledore's office? Why? 5 points.

Chocolate frogs, he usually chooses candy, and unlike the other candies, this one has a tribute to him, and was very helpful in saving the sorcerer?s stone

What is the current password to the
    Hufflepuff dormitory? Why? 5 points.

Seeker, to remember Cedric and the game he loved

What is the current password to the
    Ravenclaw dormitory? Why? 5 points.

Piquant, it means witty, which is what Ravenclaws are particularly known for

What is the current password to the
    Slytherin dormitory? Why? 5 points.

Parselmouth, as a tribute to their founder, and Voldemort

What is the current password to the
    Gryffindor dormitory? Why? 5 points.

Draco, as in the dragon from dragon heart, NOT Malfoy,it is a constallation, and has great honor

Why did Sirius Black laugh when arrested
    by Ministry officials? 10 points.

Sirius laughed because he saw just how ironically insane the whole situation was. Also, seemed so crazy to him, that he acted in the opposite of what he was feeling. It's a common psychological block to prevent oneself from feeling guilt or stress. So he laughed instead of showing his true sorrow, though a large part of it was his disbelief.

    The Creative Spirit

Create a Chocolate Frog card for your
    Founder. 15 points.

    Rowena Ravenclaw
    Rowena Ravenclaw, an ancient
witch of reknown, is most famous
for her part in the founding of
    Hogwarts School of Witchcraft
    and Wizardry. Rowena was a
    fond lover of eagles.

Make a House motto. Note: this must be
either a direct or slightly modified quote
from any of the six HP books or from any
    SW book, comic, or movie.

Gryffindor: none of your banners will show up for me. Please either repost them under a different domain or screanshot them and load that.

And am I to assume that the icon in some of your sigs is the icon you are submitting?

Hufflepuff: a cheer is something that's chanted during times of high excitement, like Quidditch games, or during Color War.

Slytherin: you do realize that you gave me parts of the same update you gave me last week? I'm going to need a little more detail on the Marauders answer. And the answer you gave to the werewolf question is not acceptable.

As your poems were very brief, I'm giving you 30 points for the two of them.

I'm assuming that the background image you posted before goes to the second board scheme and have awarded points accordingly.
