JCC The JCC Sober October of Twitter

Welcome to the inaugural JCC Sober October of Twitter.

I’ve never been a fan (this is known). The whole Fun & Games JCC split stemmed from certain board members just wholesale shipping tweets without thought or comment as response to literary every post anyone made here.

It can’t be good for us. I don’t use it, and yet my sense of moral outrage is piqued just by the volume of crap that I come across here.

I propose a Sober October of Twitter. I can’t offer much in way of reward aside from a month of colours for all winners, and a guaranteed marked improvement in your mental wellbeing.

Let’s do it together - if only as a collective social experiment.

Remember during lockdown, when people got to see empirical data of a massive improvement in air quality when almost everyone stopped driving their cars in metropolitan areas, it’ll be something like that - but a marked decrease of toxicity in your brain.

The Rules​

No using Twitter from October 1st - 31st.
No alternatives like Threads or Bluesky. That’s just like saying “I’ve quit cigarettes, I now just chew dip or hit a vape”.

We can’t avoid embedded tweets here, but just don’t click through them and follow the links etc (you know when you’re cheating).

You can use this thread for support if you’re wavering. Fess up your relapses, or hopefully share your thoughts on how liberated you feel now you’ve found (through the strength of this group) the will to finally take the needle out of your arm.

I don’t have a problem with people taking a month off from drinking. I don’t even mind this thread becoming a list of self abusing things that Tunick does and refuses to address.

God forbid someone misses the latest neck-and-neck straw poll or Trump truth.

 

I just assume he’s constantly drunk

 

The irony is not lost. I can’t even offer a full detox. What I can promise is a lesstox.

 

I quit all social media years ago (the digital stone age relic that is the JCF doesn't count), and it's been great for my mental health.

As I said, I don’t mind. I actually encourage this, and I don’t mind this thread being the place for it. Me and a few mates are quitting drinking and getting physically healthy this October (we’re calling it Project Adonis lol).
