The Apartment: Haven't seen it in years but I remember Shirley MacLaine being charming and MacMurray completely opposite his tv character.

Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace
A complete waste of talent and time. I seem to remember a DVD version with music only, probably the best way to watch it. Maybe just listen to the soundtrack instead.

    The Serpent and the Rainbow
Nothing special about this one. Not really scary nor thought provoking. Craven has much better films under his belt.

    Parasite
For the past 20 years South Korea has had one of the most vibrant cinema output in the world. Bong Joon-Ho has been one Korea's best since Memories of Murder. I didn't think it had a shot at best picture despite being the best film. Glad I was wrong.

    National Lampoon's Vacation
Chevy Chase's best acting work since he's not playing himself. A lot of great cameos and bit parts.

    Seen: 14/100
    Thumbs Up: 12
    Thumbs Down: 2

You should once, to at least get a real frame of reference for certain things; RoS makes TPM look like ****ing Network.

The Phantom Menace has so much wrong with it, yet that still of Darth Maul makes me forget all that and want to see the film again. And I know as soon as the characters start talking I’ll regret it.

The Serpent and the Rainbow I saw once long ago and all I seem to remember is a nail hammered into a testicle. Which makes me think of The Phantom Menace’s dialogue again.

Parasite I thought was good but depressing.

National Lampoon’s Vacation I’ve not seen in decades but I remember it being funny.

I'm 4/5 this round, some good picks, some meh, then TPM, yeah it's fun, still terrible, first entry I'd say doesn't deserve a spot. I love The Apartment though, and Vacation is always a fun light watch. Parasite is brilliant, well-deserved; maybe in a few years after some more viewings I'd be inclined to include it in my personal top films list.

I've never heard of The Serpent and the Rainbow, sounds interesting. Looks like it has mixed reviews. Roger Ebert liked it at least-
I think that's enough to entice me.

In a way, they’re all winners, although of course in a different and more correct way this is 86th place or higher so they’re all LOSERS

I'm of the opinion that if a movie didn't make this list or the consolation list, it no longer exists.

My consolation list is, coincidentally, the 80 movies I didn't vote for.

The Apartment: I like Fred MacMurray in this for the same reason he apparently got a bit of a bad reception with this, it's just not his normal role. I'm not particularly fond of the film as a whole though, and it's not even in my top 5 Billy Wilder films.

The Phantom Menace: I think if this wasn't a Star Wars movie, it'd be credited as a decently successful but potentially forgettable film. I don't think it deserves the level of hate it gets, but it also has a lot of issues.

The Serpent and the Rainbow: Haven't seen this, but it's on my list of movies to get to as I'm more familiar with it due to some books that have discussed it.

Parasite: Solid film, though I wasn't a fan of the pacing of it. So while I think it's quite good, I'm not as taken by it as most are/were.

National Lampoon's Vacation: Long time since I saw this, the biggest thing that sticks with me is my appreciation for featuring Magic Mountain. Less so about the movie itself, just that bit.

Running totals. Seen: 14/15; Thumbs Up: 12; Thumbs Down: 0

Question - did the order matter in our top 20? Just having it anywhere on the list got it one vote? So our personal ranking didn't come into play at all or it will later on?

The higher up on your list something was, the more points it got.

The Apartment was easily the best of these five. I like how his kitchen appliances are all from the late 1920s.

You Serpent and the Rainbow haters need to learn more about the filming and which parts are accurate to the story. For instance, locals supplied their need for piles of prop skulls and bones by digging up graves.

I wish I was kidding. They used human bones and skulls.

Oh fun. I once talked to the art director on Poltergeist about how the real skeletons got into that one, and he claimed not to have known... He was my directing teacher's husband so we were in private, not a public Q&A or anything. But still stuck to his story of "it happened but idk how"
