Yeah, I'm going to need more information. The first Karate Kid movie took it's time to show the audience why it should care about Daniel so I hope this movie does the same with Ben Wang's character. Hilary Swank's character was a swing and a miss as she came off unlikeable. Even Pat Morita couldn't save the film. The monks almost did. Similarly, I didn't care about Jaden Smith's character in the 2010 version of the story.
I was watching a react video of TNKK the other week. Even though the film is a mess, in a condensed form you can see some decent parts to that movie and get a better sense of Swank's character arc. But you're right that the film had trouble with her at the start of the film where they're trying to show her as an explosively angry and emotional teenager, but coming off as forced/cliche instead. Miyagi and the monks were really pretty fun, though. I'd really like to see them come back, if any are still with us. But her character does start to be more enjoyable throughout that monk sequence- which was probably the intention, they just went too far with the "before" characterization of her.
You forgot to add one of those hash brown things at the end of your quote, "hash brown Team Johnny Lawrence disturbing!"
I loved the trailer for the movie! Looking forward to the last 5 episodes of Cobra Kai and the new Karate Kid Legends I think it's only fair to give this movie a chance unless you really don't like the Trailers. I'm guessing Trailer 2 is possibly with the Super Bowl along with the new Jurassic world possibly!
Finally finished season 6 last night. What a fun, wild ride this show continues to be. I've never seen people switch sides so many times. Although often absurd plot wise, Cobra Kai is addictive fun and I will definitely rewatch the series someday. So glad most all the original actors could come back, especially Chozen!
I'm still not on board with the kids' story of the show, but I accept that it has a following; so there's that. It's made for families, similar to The Skeleton Crew on Disney Plus.
Yeah the kids stories have become less and less interesting but I'm in it until the end. Bringing the finale of the Sekai Taikai from Spain to LA makes no sense logically but we know why the writers wrote it this way.
Lol yeah right. Might as well shift everything to Long Island; considering that's where Ralph Macchio is from.
Very cool final trailer. I'm hyped. Everything comes full circle. Let's hope the show sticks the landing. Quote of the trailer: Amanda LaRusso: "Things got out of hand in Barcelona." Ya think, Amanda? LOL
I'm pretty sure it's just from whatever season that featured her in the past. I get that her character was pretty much one-and-done after Daniel returned back from Okinawa. I had some hope that Chozen might've swooned her into returning back to the States with her to join Daniel and friends, but apparently they had a falling out because he showed up at her door when there was another man there. Talk about a cop-out. She'd reserved herself for Daniel after all of these years, but within a year or so of seeing him for the first time on a visit, she moves on completely.
Just started watching Season 6 which is out now on Netflix. I won't get into any spoilers (and won't be reading any), but I thought this new article about two of the cast members was interesting. It really didn't dawn on me how old some of those kids actually are. ‘Cobra Kai’ costars Mary Mouser and Tanner Buchanan are engaged, as their series ends
611 Spoiler I guess the premise is Kreese actually finally feels something when he's responsible for the death of a student? Pretty big and sudden moment of growth for him in the final hour of this show. It's hard to buy especially while they're trying to sell us on Silver dying and supposedly caring about the tournament and all those involved. 612 Spoiler The obligatory "let's have the baby" and "prep for the tournament" episode. Random Elizabeth Berkley cameo is random. I did enjoy Johnny prepping for the proposal montage. He's really the heart of the show. (The recreating of the KK2 letter scene is very uncomfortable.) 613 Spoiler Speaking of, Johnny really shines here when he finally confronts Kreese. Super powerful. The Miyagi and Daniel dream sequence was nice but the uncanny valley CGI is hard to ignore. Miyagi-Do rightfully steps aside to make room for Cobra Kai - Johnny, Miguel, and Tory. (The recreating of the KK1 locker room scene works here surprisingly.) Two more episodes to go.
Just binged through the final episode today. Spoiler This last season hasn't really done much to improve my sentiments on the series overall. The featured primary characters are still the kids, and through the end I really didn't care for any of them...I mean if you twisted my arm enough I'd say that I had sympathized with Tory, but overall none of the kids were all that memorable. At least at the end of the day it all circled back to Johnny. It still rubs me the wrong way that they just completely pulled a cop-out with Kumiko and Chozen. She sends him a John Dear letter, and that's that. And to top things off, Samantha is actually headed to Okinawa to study. Seriously? They couldn't at least feature a few minutes where Daniel's one-time fling meets his daughter at the airport? They introduced that other Asian woman for Chozen to replace Kumiko, making you forget about her. And she was hardly even a factor in this final season; what, was she in like one episode after killing her grandfather and that was it? Eh whatever. We get closure for Johnny, which obviously was the primary theme to this series. That was fine; giving some connection to his bitter defeat by the illegal leg kick in KK1.
I think that Spoiler Tamlyn Tomita was either too busy or not interested. That happens. It's why Hillary Swank didn't appear.
I guess. Spoiler Between you and I, what exactly were both Tamlyn and Hillary doing that they couldn't even appear in a single episode, cameo situation? Maybe they just weren't interested.
I did like the first episode of Cobra Kai was called Ace Degenerate while the final episode was called Spoiler Ex-Degenerate. Overall thoughts: Spoiler At the heart of the series, it's really about a high school kid who thought he was on top of the world and hot **** to find out that, year later, he isn't hot ****. It's the classic "High School Quarterback who never leaves his home town and does nothing with his life" story which is very relatable and understandable to most audiences. It was great to see Johnny's high highs and low lows and how it tied to Daniel and Miguel. Unfortunately, it feels like the writers wanted that "Stranger Things" popularity and began to focus TOO much on the kids. The whole Miyagi mystery set up in S6 part 1 or 2 was resolved in a 2 minute dinner conversation with Daniel's mom in part 3. Also, isn't it great when all your problems are solved when a boat blows up? The show did try hard to ground itself in reality, but I guess at the end they said **** it, let's kill off Kreese and Silver in an explosion. Does anyone care? Does it show up in a newspaper? Nope. That's a wrap on the two huge villains that loomed large until they didn't. I appreciate the flashbacks, but we didn't need Daniel flashing back to KK2 when he was trying to catch the fly. Like trust the audience to remember that scene without putting it in there. Also, did the writers really pitch a Back to the Future reboot in the post credit scene? Really. Talk about gutsy. Side note: What I didn't understand was the random bar that was watching the fight; I didn't know who they were cutting too. Was that someone from KK1? I didn't recognize the guy. It's a shame they couldn't cut to Allie watching on her TV at home or something. An approving smile would have been powerful. Also, when Miyagi killed someone in the Sekai Taikai it didn't end the tournament. It obviously kept going. So not sure why it was an issue in this series. Was this social commentary on parents nowadays? Also, did Kim Da-Eun have to kill her grandfather? Couldn't she leave with the students? Anyway, I guess sometimes it was fun, but most of the times it was a joke. I'll have fond memories of my wife and I watching this show and making fun of it.
