Oh, how marvelously poignant the RoTJ excerpt is. [face_love] =D=

Just to be extra-clear, every single word must be from the excerpts? i.e. we can't have any named characters than those that are named in the excerpts?

Also, is it acceptable to use plurals of words that are in the singular, to conjugate verbs, etc?

    Oh, and more questions :p

What about homonyms? e.g. can, which can be a verb or a tin can – I imagine we have to stick to the meaning used in the excerpts?

And what about hyphenated words? e.g. scorched-pale, can we use each element separately or do we have to use the hyphenated form?

LOL Adding my own question. ;)

In creating the poem, can we use the character's names to show the interplay of emotions and thoughts.

E.g., in the RoTJ passage, Vader and Luke are the focus points.

    Nope, no word limit!

Yep, free verse is one of the ones listed above, and you're also free to use poetry forms that aren't specifically mentioned in the post. ;)

I agree! That entire scene in the novelization imprinted on me pretty hard when I first read it as a kid, and it was kind of emotional reading it again for the first time in years. [face_love]

Any character names that appear in those two passages may also appear in your poem, yes!

Yes, every word of your poem must be from the excerpts, so that means no named characters other than the ones that are already there. ;)

In this case, no, because the words must be taken as-is from the excerpts.

As long as the spelling is exactly the same as the original, you can absolutely use different meanings for the words from the excerpts!

You may break apart hyphenated words and use each element individually if you wish. :)

Thanks @ViariSkywalker! And yet another, super-nitpicky question (sorry, I'm making a word list to see if what material there is for me to work with here) – combining these two elements:
... does this mean that I can use "wan" from "Obi-Wan" as the adjective? (no, I didn't think of it on my own, the wordlist maker I used separated it for me :p)

lolll, I forgot Obi-Wan's name was in there. I'm going to say Obi-Wan's name is the exception to the hyphenated words allowance, so no breaking his name up for this. :p

Haha, I figured poetry week was coming up. :p:D This is such a cool prompt, though, and I love both of those passages! They bring back so many memories. The prequel novelizations were all good, but RotS was just on another level. And the RotJ passage...all of the feels there.

I don't know if I'll actually have time to come up with something, or if it will end up being substitute prompt week, but I definitely want to try and do the poem at some point. And either way, I can't wait to read what everyone else comes up with. [face_love]

I think I need to take the bye week for Week 8.

Do you want bye week entries only posted during Week 11 for simplicity? Or can they be posted earlier if they happen to be done before Week 11?

I know, right?? [face_love] I'll never be over how amazing the RotS novelization is, and I legit started to tear up while I was rereading the RotJ passage in preparation for the KR. And of course I'm glad you like the prompt, since your mention of found poems during the first KR is what reminded me that they were a thing! [face_batting] I had to write a found poem for my eighth grade language arts class, and it was probably one of my favorite poems I wrote that year. :p Since we're not in a classroom, I couldn't do the prompt the same way my teacher did, but I figured picking a couple of thematically linked passages from SW was a good place to start for the KR.

Oh yes, I hope you do try it even if it's sometime after the KR! I wasn't planning to write one myself (not for these specific passages anyway), but now I'm thinking I might have to at some point! [face_love]

You can post it anytime between now and the end of Week 11, so if you finish early, feel free to post! :)

I'm so delighted to see one of my favorite passages from the ROTS novelization (which is one of the best Star Wars novels I've read) serve as inspiration for this week's prompt[face_dancing]

From that passage, I went in a fiery direction to create a poem for the Avatar the Last Airbender fandom in which Ozai ruminates over the loss of his firebending for my Week 9 entry:

I can't do poetry, so perhaps I'll work on my bye week fic for next week. Also, what happens when you miss a deadline? Can you still post it? And if so, does it still count towards the final goal or not?

I got to stop leaving these for the last minute, since if it keeps up, I'll get too far behind. I need to go back to working on them shortly after you post the next prompt like I did last year (seemed to work better).;)

Free verse poetry is pretty easy. You just have to break up the lines a little more than usual. Granted, with this particular prompt, there's still the challenge of a limited word list...

One more quick question for @ViariSkywalker by way of clarification: I know the words used in the found poem have to exactly match words found in the source text, but do they have to appear in the same order as they do in the source text, or can they be in any order? And you can mix and match individual words as well as borrowing particular phrases, right?

EDIT: Also, what about altering the style of the type (italic, ALL CAPS, etc.)? Is that kosher, or do we have to stick with the styling found in the source text?

If you miss a deadline, you can still post your story, but it will not officially count toward the final goal. :)

They can be in any order! And you can also mix and match individual words in addition to borrowing entire phrases. ;)

You are free to change the styling and/or punctuation however you wish!
